Pit - what "changes on the field" did you expect to see this past season?
I was thinking about this coming season actually.
Quote:
You don't like the "marketing" aspect of what they are doing now......but, how can they "win first, then change" when they haven't had time to make changes on the field? Or, did you want everything to stay the same until they win?
Since football is the very root of the monitary resource, I would think it is rational to expect them to show us the product they are building before wholesale changes are being made, yes.

How was Haslam supposed to change the "on the field" product in the short time he's owned the team?
And why is it so important to begin the process of making changes in the uniforms and such after being the owner of this team in the short time he has owned it? Why such a rush?
Quote:
New uni's and a corporate sponsor have nothing to do with winning. They also have nothing to do with losing.
No it doesn't. What it does do is open up an increased revenue with all new gear without having to actually win games.
I'm not against wholesale changes. But I would like to see winning put ahead of marketing, not the other way around.
It's not about a corporate sponsor either. I just think if you're going to change the uniforms you should show a change on the field of play first.

Haslam said that he wanted to make the fan experience better from the moment he bought the team. It wasn't something thrown in at the last second.
And you buy into that?
Let's see... to make the "fan experience better"...WIN!
That part isn't rocket science nor do you need to survey the fan base to realise that.

Quote:
I don't see why the team can't work on more than one thing at a time. The team has departments handling football, and handling stadium matters ... uniforms ...... and so on. Why should it be assumed that they can only do one thing at a time?
Assuming that isn't the issue here. Looking at past evidence says something all together different. How many people have come in here promising to make this team a winner? How many have accomplished that?
Now anybody can change the uniforms and pretend they don't know that winning is the best thing they can do for "the fan experience", but we've seen all too much evidence that not just anybody can make this team into a winner.
So would I like to see some evidence of what's most important to us all in winning games first? Yes, I would....

So tell me exactly what Haslam could do today, or last week - to show you the "product on the field", and "winning".
What has he done wrong? What could he show you today to make you happy?
Hey, let's say you bought a house. It's winter. You want to add a pool. Can't add a pool in the winter because if you do, the thaw will crack the cement. Do you wait to paint your living room until the pool is added in the summer?
Or, you buy a rundown house. Do you wait to fix it up until you've lived there for a few years to see if you like it?
Or, you buy a factory that makes product "M", which isn't very good due to the manufacturing process. You order new equipment to improve the manufacturing process, but it will take a year for the company you ordered the new equipment from to produce it........do you wait a year and a half to paint the walls, or improve the plumbing?
Tell us what, exactly, you expect Haslam to do today to improve the winning on the field, then tell me how naming rights, and possible new uniforms are preventing him from doing that.

To me it would resemble running commercials for a car you haven't even began developing yet. I would think people would want to see the car and see how it performs before you go advertising it.
The car is built, it's far from perfect but the car is built... we have a team so you market the team you have... nothing in marketing the team you have prevents you from trying to improve the team.. nothing.
Something like 2.3 million Ford Pintos were sold.. because Ford built an amazing vehicle? No, because they marketed it...
Haslam has 2 goals.. winning and profiting... they are not mutually exclusive, in fact they are very much linked... he came to a team that hasn't won anything in 30 years... I don't get why he should stick with all of the same stuff, the same look, the same feel, the same everything... that is so closely associated with losing... I know that a new uniform doesn't make a bad football player into a good football player.. but change some things up, change the tone, change the look, change the feel, bring in some excitement, change the attitude..... It's not going to work unless Chud is a good coach and we continue to acquire talent... but in the end, what do you think Joe Thomas thinks about when he puts his uniform on? How about, this is the uniform I've worn to go 33-63 since I came into the NFL.. this is the uniform I've worn for the last 5 years in which we haven't won more than 5 games, this is the uniform I've never worn in the playoffs.... Yea, I love this uniform and have so much pride in it....

This is what I'm imaging you look like right now. You haven't answered my question. Quote:
Which part of "You can do all these things simultaneously" are you not comprehending? You keep framing it as we can either focus on marketing or we can focus on winning which makes absolutely no sense. You can do all these things at the same time. How can you improve the team in January? Draft is months away, as is Free Agency. And I would argue we've done the improvements possible: new coaching staff, front office, etc.
To be honest, it seems like you're complaining just for the sake of complaining.

There are many who have met me and your pic is very funny. Imagine bigger, long hair, full beard and more than just a little redneck thrown in for good measure. Oh a person can do many things at one time. I guess the question becomes does this fan base buy into "the glittery new package" before expecting accountability for the product first? Like DC indicated, Ford sold over 2 million Pinto's and the car pretty much stunk. I expect to have a test drive first and not buy into a lot of crazy marketing ploys. But it appears many would be very happy if they ended up buying a Pinto! Sorry, but getting all enamored about the fancy new packaging isn't my style until I have some idea of what's inside. If it's yours, have at it.

I think your analogy is based upon a flawed premise. The product - the Cleveland Browns - is already on the market. Now you can either keep it the ugly mustard yellow color (or whatever) or you can give it a paint job WHILE fixing the engine. I guess I just don't see the point of waiting on the marketing and improving the fan experience when you can do it at the same time as everything else.

So far nobody who has came in here promising to fix that Pinto engine has done the job right. Putting a shiny new paint jb on that Pinto won't help it run better. Kind of like a id who buys a 2k car....... He puts 15 hundred in rims and 22", 2k in an "awsome sound sysytem!", and a 2k paint job on it. On the surface all the kids ooh and awe, but a year later when the car blows up, the kid gets all upset and can't figure out where he went wrong. I say make things mechanicly sound before you invest in a fancy paint job. After all, sitting in your driveway upset with a fancy looking car isn't going to get you back and forth to work nearly as well as a banged up a car that's mechanicly sound. If you think the fancy paint job has any impact on how the motor runs, I suggest you look back over the past 14 years and reconsider that.

I honestly don't see why this is an issue at all, or why you are so upset about it.
Really, I don't.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

What would make you think I'm upset about it? That's the problem with the printed word I guess.
Actually I find it all quite amusing at this juncture.
So many ooooh's and awe's over something so meaningless. But hey, wampum worked as a viable tool against the Native Americans and it seems the trend continues.
Lure them to sleep with the nice shiny things while we pick their pockets.

Hey, even if they lose they can take it all the way to the bank, right? I actually find the whole thing hilarious!

Yep.
We're all just sheep who can't make our own decisions.
Except you. Cause you're so much better.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
