I agree with everything you said but this part scares me...

Haslam will not let Lombardi and Banner take over and go against the vision he has set out for this franchise.
Why would you put guys in those positions if you didn't think they shared your vision?
for the last couple years, I thought the FO with Heckert was solid and I thought the talent on the field was improving, I never had much confidence in Shurmur....
Now I think the talent on the field is pretty good, I think we have the best coaching staff we've had since Belichick but I don't have much confidence in the FO....
It's always something.
LOL Frustrating as hell isn't it.
Anyway, I do feel as if Haslam will come down on the side of Chud/Turner/Horton when it comes to on field talent. I think he'll come down on the side of Banner for everything off field.
I really don't think he's going to support Lombardi.
I don't think Haslam wanted him all that much,, just his expressions on his face tell me that he felt like he was making excuses for him and I don't think he liked that at all in the presser. But he picked Banner and Banner wanted Lombardi so he let him have him.
I don't for one second believe that Haslam is going to let Lombardi have final word on players. I just don't believe it. I don't think he's that freaking dumb.

Fired Heckert - HORRIBLE!
I was all for keeping him. Waisted time creating & maintaining a stupid Facebook community rallying around him.
But i gotta ask: Why aren't we reading about him being hired or even interviewing?

Those are all far to subjective.
Realistically, all hires have some significant risks to them. Even Norv.
That being said, I wouldn't say firing Heckert was horrible. He was mediocre, but we've been starving for that for so long, he was given sainthood and was the sacred cow among fans.
I do like it that Banner hired people who wanted to be here, that he was willing to put his neck out on the line and was able to put together a superstar staff.
I don't know, we'll see.
you had a good run Hank.

1. He is still paid by the Browns...where he probably had a relatively healthy wage, considering his power here. He can go have a nice year or two of paid vacation, getting probably more for doing nothing/playing with his kids than he would get for 12-16h workdays and stress...he said so himself in an interview the day he was fired
2. He's probably majorly POed...don't underestimate this factor. He built this roster, it's HIS baby and he got it stripped away by the same power hungry fool that wanted him gone in Philly...that sucks, you know, so staying on their payroll instead of taking another job and letting J&J off the hook, is all he can do to flip them a bird
3. How many GM openings were there this offseason? - A few...How many of those wouold any candidate have gotten total control? - Even less, maybe none (except for the Jets, who are in the worst possible shape though). Why would he do a lesser job for less money after all his years and success in the league? Well paid vacation sounds like a better option to me too...

I hope to God I'm wrong, but with the situation heading into this and future drafts and FA periods, I don't see us catching the Ravens, Steelers & Bengals. If we can't beat them consistently, we can't win in the NFL. Never mind going up against NE, Denver, SF, etc, etc, etc. I see an upgrade in coaching but a serious downgrade in the personnel office. I expect a better record this year, 6-8 wins possibly even 9, but but with the potential of a degrading talent base, I can't envision long term growth and steady improvement, key to building a consistently winning franchise.
IMHO, today, we are about a half dozen players away from competing, one of those players is a franchise QB. Until we get one, and fill in the other holes at CB, FS, DL & LB, upgrade at TE, guard & WR, we'll be sucking hind tit in the AFC North until the next "rebuild". As I stated, I hope I'm wrong and only time will tell, but what I see for our future right now is SSDY.
