No, they don't want it done AT ALL. The announcement is secondary to the agreement.

Browns | Might try to trade for Ryan Mallett
Fri, 08 Mar 2013 20:48:22 -0800

The Cleveland Browns might try to trade for New England Patriots QB Ryan Mallett, according to an NFL source. However, another source said head coach Bill Belichick is not expected to part with Mallett.

Browns may have interest in Britton Colquitt

The Cleveland Browns might have an interest in restricted free-agent P Britton Colquitt (Broncos). He received the original-round tender Friday, March 8, meaning the Browns would not have to surrender a draft pick to sign him.

Rubin is our best NT...I don't get it for him to be maybe on the oust. So we get a guy to play DE how does that endanger our Best NT.

If anything Taylor might be the odd man out...of course we would trade him not release...maybe to the Cowboys

But in my case I don't see anyone on the outs except a back up like Kitchen???

DE: Winn, Taylor - room for 2 more...I see nobody on the outs by getting another. And even if the FA starts...its not like OL we will have rotation in there with quality.

NT: Rubin n Hughes...I really don't see too much room for another.

Plenty of time to clear Cap Space in future seasons. Not 2013. And NT is not an easy position to fill/upgrade. I don't see ours going anywhere soon.

Taylor...if you are of the belief he is our best NT...I understand your though process. I do however question your evaluation of that especially if we end up stating he is a 3-4 DE...if anything that says he is not a 3-4 NT.

JMHO

We'll see if Rubin is the best NT or not soon enough I suppose. Might end up being Big Phil.. Remember, big men that can run, small men that can hit.

In all serious, he's a good punter and he may have Haslem ties as he went to Tennessee.

Danario Alexander # WR

San Diego Chargers | Official Team Site

Height: 6-5 Weight: 217 Age: 24

Born: 8/7/1988 Waco , TX

College: Missouri

Experience: 2nd season

High School: Marlin HS [TX]

Will the Chargers risk losing WR Danario Alexander?

Danario Alexander was one of the few bright spots for the San Diego Chargers last season. They're crossing their fingers he'll be around in 2013.

The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the team is planning to use the low ("original-round") tender on the 24-year-old wideout. We don't often mull restricted free agents because very few are pursued, but Alexander -- ala Victor Cruz -- stands to draw considerable interest if the low tag is applied.

The original-round tender would allow the Chargers to match any offer floated Alexander's way, but if they choose not to match, they'll receive nothing in return, because Alexander went undrafted. This is surprising because earlier reports suggested the Chargers might use their first-round tender on Alexander, which would all but guarantee he'd be back.

Alexander turned it on for the Chargers last season, pulling down 37 catches for 658 yards and seven touchdowns. All of that production came over the final 10 weeks of the season and was a welcome sight in the face of Robert Meachem's disappearing act.

Norv Turner coached Alexander and now runs the offense in Cleveland. The Browns could make good use of this young wideout, but so could 90 percent of the league. If San Diego gambles low, this might get interesting.

Alexander is a guy that will draw interest, from a lot of teams, due to the probable reasonable dollars. Hopefully, the Norv connection will work, in our favor. Regardless, we will have to bump up the dollars, so that the Chargers do not simply match. IIRC, San Diego used him as both a TE and WR, that flexibility is always a plus.

He is absolutely a guy I would look at. I don't know what price the Chargers consider to be too high ...... but hopefully we can come in a dollar or 2 above their max.

A 3some of Alexander and Gordon on the outside, and Little in the slot, would be a thing of beauty.

Boldin will reject Raven's request to take a pay cut, supposedly will test market:

Wait,, a CASH issue but NOT a CAP issue? The owner of the Ravens, Steven Biscotti (sp) is a billionaire in the league of Haslam.. Now I know his business is down,, most all temp services are and have been for about 4 years now. But dang.. he's got the money,, Or at least I know he had the money...

What does this mean.. If it's not a a CAP issue but a CASH issue, does that mean they are cash strapped?

Accusing a GM of telling a coach not to play your favorite player sounds like the cries of a petulant child.

I would guess that we will see several former Chargers and Cardinals making their way to Cleveland. Obviously we'll see other premium free agents, but I would bet that Norv's and Horton's former teams will dominate the tour of Cleveland.

I would fully expect us to potentially make a run at any free agent Chargers, Panthers or Eagles players due to our current coaching staff, Arizona free agents too. I read something about Denario Alexander? He would make a solid pickup, as would Antione Cason the CB from San Diego.

Here is my free agent wish list...

Mike Wallace - WR/Pittsburgh
Paul Kruger - OLB/Baltimore
Delanie Walker - TE/San Francisco
Danny Woodhead - RB/New England
Antione Cason - CB/San Diego

We then draft an offensive guard, free safety and another pass rushing OLB or 3-4 defensive end with our first three picks.

We have the cash so we have to use some of it! This team needs some impact players!

My question on free agency is this ......

How the hell do teams and agents "enter into negotiations" with one another ..... but also be careful not to agree to terms on a contract so they don't violate the terms of the new 3 day waiting period ......?

I mean ... really ..... how does this work?

Agent: "My client will be looking for a contract in the upper third of players at his position. However, this shouldn't be construed as a contractual offer in any manner whatsoever."

Team: "We think that your client is probably worth that upper third designation, but that's not to say, in any way, that we would consider signing him to such a deal. We might, but then again, we might not."

Agent: "My client understands perfectly, and he might, or might not be willing to sign with your team for the in no way specified amount."

If you go back and re-read the "law" it seems to state, and I merely paraphrase, that any announcement of an agreement or terms will result in big trouble. It's not giving a go ahead to negotiations, but it's the announcement that will cause the league to step in and slap somebody.

At least that's what I go out of the pasted rule.

Yeah .... I understand that .... and it's idiotic.

If you negotiate, the entire purpose is to reach agreement. Why play games?

I think that it's more like:

Agent to teams: My client is seeking 'x' amount of dollars per year.

Teams to agent: We are interested but we won't pay that. We'll discuss it and get back to you with a counter offer.

Agent to teams: My client is adamant about getting compensated fairly for his services.

Teams to agent: Our counter offer is 'x' amount of dollars over so many years with 'y' amount of dollars guaranteed.

From the article:

Negotiations are fine, but AGREEMENTS as well as announcements are against the rules. You have to abide by the whole rule, not just one part of it.

Hypothetically, Team A says we'll offer x years at y dollars. The agent replies we want z years at v dollars. In order to "agree w/out agreeing" the team could say something like, "Your terms are definitely something we can work with, let's meet on the 12th and see if we can come to an official agreement." Of course there would likely be more back and forth, but that's the gist. Then again, anyone who thinks there won't be "agreements" ahead of time is kidding himself.

Here's me list:

1. Dannell Ellerbe
2. Paul Kruger
3. Dashon Goldson
4. Andy Levitre or Louis Vasquez

Give me 3 of the these 4 and I will be a happy camper. And if you want to give me a bonus player I will take WR Danario Alexander from SD, he knows Norv's offense and would fit nicely with Gordon and Little.

Give me these two guys and a good corner and I'm happy. I didn't think Ellerbe would be a possibility at all, but for a million bucks, I could see us making the offer to solidify the middle of our D and put the hurtin' on the Rats.
