Just what the Browns need: more crazed attention in Cleveland.

"Draft Day," a football-related film directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Kevin Costner, could be heading to shoot in Greater Cleveland.

The Browns beat out the Bills, so to speak, because of better motion picture tax-incentives being offered in Ohio, according to a story Tuesday on The Buffalo News' web site. The Browns, through spokesman Neal Gulkis, declined to comment. Any film involving NFL teams and logos must be approved by the league.

Reitman and a location scout had scoped out Buffalo sites, but opted for Cleveland in order to save about $3.5 million, the News reported. A spokesperson for the Ohio Film Office said it had nothing to report at this time. Ivan Schwarz, executive director of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, said in an email, "I am sorry but I have no comment at this time."

Costner, who would play a fictitious Browns GM, is no stranger to sports-related films, having starred in "Bull Durham," "For Love of the Game," "Tin Cup" and "Field of Dreams." Reitman has directed comedies such as "Ghostbusters," "Stripes" and "Dave," and produced a slew of hits, including "Animal House."

The Browns have been featured in other films, including Billy Wilder's "The Fortune Cookie," with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, and the Ernie Davis movie "The Express." Jim Brown, the most famous
Cleveland Browns movie 'Draft Day,' starring Kevin Costner, may be lining up Cleveland shoot.

Cleveland Brown of all, quit football in 1966 to focus on film-acting full-time, an was later the focus of Spike Lee's documentary "Jim Brown: All American."

"Draft Day," about a general manager working to restore the greatness of his franchise, could shoot here in late spring or early summer, around the same time as "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

That explains why the Browns haven't won anything since 1964. They given up to focus on film-acting on a full-time basis.

I, for one, think this is fantastic news, paired with our impending uniform change.

1989- Major League is made, that same year the Indians engineer a trade that brings Sandy Alomar and Carlos Baerga on board.

As far as uniform changes, I know it sounds silly, but it does seem to coincide with a change in franchise fortune quite a bit. Look good feel good.

+1

This was the first thing that jumped into my head.

Somehow I don't think the NFL would let them use the team name though.

If this is the only way to see a winning Browns team, I'm in.

I remember when Costner's character said "Hey Dad, have a catch?" in Field Of Dreams, and I thought "Aw c'mon man, whos SAYS that?" Nobody, that's who. They say "wanna play catch?" or "play catch?". Okay, I know Costner didn't write the screenplay, but that was almost as annoying as when Springsteen wrote "He could throw that speedball by you, make you look like a fool." in Glory Days. Hey Bru, its a fastball, a heater, number 1, but in all my years of playing baseball, nobody ever called it ... a speedball. "Speedball" is drug talk.

The best we could hope for is that he drafts Bobby Boucher and the movie's called "WaterBoy World".

He could visualize Big Ben as a....well....visualizing him as Big Ben would be infuriating enough.

I like that part about how it was supposed to be about the Buffalo Bills, but Cleveland gave up some better incentives to do it here so they are using the Browns..

That's whats called "making it happen" here in cleveland.. Yeah baby...LOL

Same thing happened when they chose to film scenes for The Avengers in Cleveland.

I'm excited for this. But also trying to remember without looking it up, the last good film directed by Ivan Reitman.

He's only listed with a Producer credit on IMDB.... but for Directing credits, the man gets a lifetime pass because of Meatballs, alone. Then Evolution. No Strings Attached was decent as his last flick.

Looking at the list of Producer credits... holy smokes, the guy has a lot of irons in the fire. He's either going to make a ton, or lose it all, lol!

"Movie Bowl"
Cleveland Browns - 28
Buffalo Bills - 3

The Bills can't even win this bowl! In all seriousness, I'm curious as to how this movie will play out. As a Browns fan, I'm flattered in a minor way.

Hey! 4 of my friends were IN that movie!

There is a big party in a museum, and my mates made up the string quartet that was playing background music. They were instructed to "look emotive" while playing... and had to run across the set in sheer panic when all hell broke loose. They got to meet Joss Whedon, got the standard "extra's pay" for the day, and got about 30 seconds of 'face time' in a hollywood blockbuster.

Not too shabby a way to spend a day off from the main gig, eh?

You should look a little closer. He directed Stripes, Ghostbusters, & Dave among others I didn't really care for.

To answer my original question, his last 2 directing jobs were'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' and'No Strings Attached.'. I've heard nothing but BAD reviews of these....

Regardless, I'm all about this Browns flick...

To you, sir, I say "Good Day!".

I said Good Day!

Super Ex-Girlfriend was pretty lame. No Strings wasn't bad, with lots of funny moments.

Sean Combs and Terry Crews Cast in ‘Draft Day’

Shooting kicks off Thursday with scenes filming during the actual NFL draft at Radio City Music Hall.

On the eve of the 2013 NFL draft, Summit has added Sean Combs and Terry Crews to the cast of the sports pic “Draft Day,” starring Kevin Costner, and plans to film scenes at New York’s Radio City Music Hall during the event starting on Thursday.

The remaining footage is expected to be shot in Cleveland.

The pic also stars  Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary and Chadwick Boseman. Ivan Reitman is directing.

The story follows the manager of the Cleveland Browns who struggles to acquire the top draft pick for his team on the day of the draft.

Reitman will produce along with Ali Bell and Tom Pollock through his Montecito Motion Picture Company banner from a script by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph.

Crews is repped by WME and 3 Arts and can be seen in the upcoming season of HBO’s “The Newsroom.” Combs is repped by CAA and was last seen in Universal’s “Get Him to the Greek."

“Draft Day” descends on Cleveland this week

Posted by Mike Florio on May 5, 2013, 9:14 PM EDT

Football season returns (sort of) to Cleveland this week, when shooting for the NFL-related movie Draft Day begins.

Via WKYC-TV, the bulk of the filming starts in and around Greater Cleveland on Wednesday.  Shaker Heights and Berea, where the Browns are headquartered, appear on the list of sites where scenes will be shot.  FirstEnergy Stadium will host some of the filming, too.  (The dude from the Factory of Sadness video deserves a cameo, in his Pontbriand jersey.)

On Saturday, a casting call was held for football players in the 18-25 age range.

Filming in Cleveland at the same time will be Captain America:  The Winter Soldier, with Cleveland playing the role of Washington, D.C.

Some scenes from Draft Day already have been shot at Radio City Music Hall, in conjunction with the actual NFL draft.  The films stars Kevin Costner (who plays the Browns G.M.), Jennifer Garner, and Denis Leary.  Several NFL players appear in the film, including Texans running back Arian Foster.

The movie originally was scheduled to be filmed in Buffalo, with a focus on the Bills.  Ohio ultimately offered a better tax deal than New York, so the Browns scored the victory.

j/c My first thought when I read the title was, Kevin Costner, Oh my, ( I mean I would be really excited if it was anyone else, I don't want to just be a naysayer, but Costner has ruined a bunch of movies for me because I don't like him as an actor, Except maybe Bull durham? Was he in that?.

My 2nd thought. Hahaha. At least in Major League, the Indians won the Pennant, Twice, once each movie. And then in real life they win it a few years later and lose to my beloved Braves, ( First time my favorite team ever won it all), but in this movie the Browns are just going to get a draft pick. They already get those, they aren't even going to win the Super Bowl in this movie?

My 3rd thought. Hey, Ghostbusters and My super ex gf, were directed by the same guy. ( I once saw My super ex gf, on cable, started watching it and got into it before I knew what it was, It was kind of compelling) but Hey.
In Ghostbusters they have a scene where there's chaos on the top of a building, people falling over, blown around by the wind on a rooftop, right before they meet the stay puffed marshmellow man. ( Cough/Paul Zukaskis/)

In My super ex, there's a scene where there's chaos on a rooftop people falling over, blown around by the wind and the two " hero girls" fighting/flying down to streetlevel. So my 3rd thought is, how are they going to imcorporate this trademark into a movie about a Browns draft pick.

Back to Kevin Costner. ( These guys can't act, but I'd rather see them play the Browns Gm in a movie than Kevin Costner.)
Nascar driver Jeff Gordon
Former Browns coach and now espn anaylist Eric Mangini
Former President Bill Clinton, I don't know why he comes to mind
Annoying funnyman David Spade

... Costner will be fine. Maybe they can win the Superbowl in this movie, not just get a draftpick.

( It's not a comedy or a tragedy, it's a nightmare, the player they are trying to get is __________. )

Brady Quinn!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
