http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/10/ravens-want-boldin-to-take-2-million-pay-cut/Ravens want Boldin to take $2 million pay cut Posted by Mike Florio on March 10, 2013, 4:33 PM EDT So what will it take for the Ravens to keep receiver Anquan Boldin? According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens want Boldin to take a $2 million pay cut. Boldin is due to earn $6 million, with a cap number of $7.531 million. Per Wilson, the Ravens were close to cutting Boldin on Friday; it was so close to happening that the player had prepared a statement thanking the fans for their support. But now that it has become more and more apparent that Boldin will change course from his proclamation to Pro Football Talk that he’ll play for the Ravens or no one, the Ravens have pushed back from the brink. For now. Still, it’s unclear how much the Ravens will pay. The team clearly believes $6 million is too much. The question is whether and to what extent Boldin will take a reduction. The best outcome could be a mutual face-saving, in which Boldin decreases his base salary and can make back the difference via playing time and/or performance.Either way, it’s now clear that Boldin will be playing football in 2013. The question is whether it will be for the Ravens or someone else.
Here we go again

I just hope he don't end up in Cincy playing opposite of Green.

I am in complete agreement with you, DNA.
We need to stay away from sexy FA WRs. We need more defense than anything else for this team.
It seems like the lesser known WR's do better in FA. Less expectations, the player tends to be younger, maybe the talents are not 100% discovered, but I wouldn't mind if we picked up a guy that is still young, and maybe some of us haven't heard about since college..
A vet wouldn't be a bad idea, but if you're going to go vet, sign one that isn't demanding huge money.
Would have loved the idea of Wallace, but Miami is probably backing up the truck for the guy, and Pittsburgh seems to do pretty well with letting guys walk.

he was a trade. as was Wes Welker (you didn't mention him, but he often is said to have been a FA WR signee).
the last one that helped his team was Vincent Jackson, last offseason. he had an incredible year and helped TB have one of the most efficient and entertaining offenses in the NFL.

As far as the Browns go, I thought the FA signing of Joe J was really good. We got one rock solid year out of him. Didn't end well but I'm desperate and would love to get anyone who can give us a year like he had. Crucial to every win that season, huge on 3rd downs, great leadership.

What happened to Joe and how his career ended is still a huge tragedy in my eyes. Such a shame...

We have really had some horrible situations out of free agency ......
Joe J played only one year.
Chris Spielman didn't play for us at all. Neither did LaCharles Bentley. I can't think of too many teams who have signed big name free agents, only to lose them for good before they even played one regular season snap.

wasn't there a big name corner we signed and he blew out his knee also? Just adds to the line of FA misery.

Yep. Gary Baxter. I knew that there was one I was missing in there.
Man we have had sh ..... err ... crap luck in signing free agents.

Thought this was interesting... Not sure it's news to anybody but yes, when WR's are picking teams in FA, the QB does matter... Greg Jennings says quarterback 'means a lot' in free agency By Brad Biggs | National Football Post – 4 hours ago Greg Jennings says the “quarterback means a lot” as the wide receiver prepares to enter free agency on Tuesday. Unfortunately for Jennings, he’s going to have a difficult time finding a better one to play with than Greg Jennings (Pretty sure they mean Aaron Rodgers). After seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers, he’s preparing to move on and Jennings is unlikely to hook up with a passer that is anything like Aaron Rodgers. That’s just a fact. “Coaching means a lot, the dynamic of the team," Jennings told Robert Klemko of USA Today. "To me, the quarterback means a lot, if they have one or not, and I have to make sure my family is comfortable.” Jennings is coming off an injury-marred season as he dealt with a groin issue and missed significant time. He started in only five games and had 36 receptions for 366 yards. He also has a history of concussions, another factor that could cool some teams pursuing him. Jennings doesn’t run like Mike Wallace, the consensus top receiver in free agency, and that is also an issue. But in the right scheme he will be able to be a big factor for someone. web page

In 2005 Gary blew out his pectoral and played all of 5 games. In 2006 (as I recall) Gary blew out both his patellar tendons in a single play against Denver jumping up/landing to defend a pass. Played 3 games that season Baxter injury ESPN Another big name guy we had was Jamir Miller. Who had a great season and then was terribly injured. We got a bit more mileage out of Orpheus Roye, Jamal Lewis, and Robert Griffith. (Though they weren't necessarily as elite). As a brief side note: Anthony Henry and Leigh Bodden have completely ruined Joe Haden for me. Where are the 10 ints Joe? Disappointed. Realzing how off topic this is.. I still favor Boldin if we need to snag an FA WR. As a very last resort I would take Randy Moss, but I'm an idiot

Not to nitpick (okay, so maybe a little ), but he played for 2 years.

My favorite guy was that Ralph Brown. Man he thought he was good. He'd constantly get beat, and then he'd get one decent play and he'd dance around or whatever. Never seen a number 4 corner as confident as Ralph Brown. Dunno if I've ever seen an NFL corner play as bad as Ralph Brown
Man was Ralph Brown bad. lol

You must have repressed your memory of Terry Cousins.

Cousins was pretty bad as well. You know who was bad too, that OLD corner that played on Mangini's first team. He was decent in his day, but man did he . me off in that game against the Lions.
Stafford tosses the hail mary, and this guy (ex-Jet and Patriot) goes and gets a Pass Interference.
I was at the bar and right when Stafford throws the ball, the chick bartender changes the channel. Me and my buddy started yelling, she switches back and it turns out that that guy gets a pass interference. I feel like his name is Ray.
This sets up the game with a 1 point lead for us, and Detroit decides to make it a game (cause Stafford is injured) and goes for two, scores, and I leave the bar yelling about the idiot blonde bartender.
He got beat all the time. Gave up play after play.
Cousins was a pretty bad player as well. So darn short and he'd get beat as well.
But no one pissed me off the way that Ralph Brown did. I'd be watching the game and I'd say "Aww man, Ralph Brown is in the game" and they'd throw for like a ten yard gain to Ralph's receiver, Ralph would tackle him, then you'd see him dancing around like he's the man. Then the next play comes, and Ralph's receiver burns him deep for a TD. Yet Ralph keeps coming back like he's some kind of superstar on the next set of downs. He shook off bad plays like no one's business ALA Shaun Smith, but he was a much worse player.
When Ralph Brown was in the game, you knew you were in trouble

Definitely.
I always thought he was the unsung hero of that season. I know we didn't make playoffs, but it was still fun. Every week was a roller coaster ride.
I thought he took a bunch of pressure off guys like DA, Braylon, K2, etc...
He's a great guy, class act, and I'm still glad we had that one year where he was a Brown.
and wow, some of these names being thrown around. Just horrible. I wonder what some of these clowns doing nowadays?

Ray Mickens.
We also picked up Hank Poteat one year. Right after he handed us a ridiculous number of passes in the Steeler secondary the year before. He was awwful.

There's the two names. Ray Mickens and Hank Poteat.
Those guys probably were the two worst CBs that I can think of on this team.
Number 3 being Ralph Brown. With Terry (although I thought his name was Travis) Cousins coming in right after that.

Million dollar question: Who plays QB?
Can we line up Alex Smith at FB?
I think my coaching staff would be
Head coach: Pat Shurmur Offensive coordinator: Maurice Carthon Defensive coordinator: Leaning toward Grantham
General Manager: Geroge Kokinis

Wow, Marecic, yeah.
Guess it depends on which guy Maurice Carthon feels more comfortable using for the fullback sweep/pass play.

even Derek Anderson's Buffalo game is in awe of Wynn's 5/16 17yard 1.01YPA start vs. JAX (in a game where JAX won 48-0 and didn't have to play as hard on D in the 2nd half)

Boldin traded to the Niners for a 6th round pick per ESPN.

I imagine they let Boldin have some input into what team he went to, and of course the better teams are the ones on it.

You know, at QB, I do remember one game where they alternated Kevin Johnson and Dennis Northcutt. They were pretty awful. And then there's Ken Dorsey who was spectacularly awful. So maybe Spergeon Wynn isn't a shoo-in for the All-Bad Browns first team.
