UDFA RFA - we might offer a 2 mil one year contract if we want him bad enough. How much guaranteed...I don't know 1 mil if we cut him.

Norv would know him well. Yes there is advantage to help with WRs...not only on how Norv wants the routes ran the language which somebody already mentioned. But possibly reads wanted by Norv. But if we do make an offer like above I guarantee you its cause Norv was wowed by the kid.

All that other stuff...that's why you would do a FA signing for a vet past his prime that was in the system...don't know if there are any or were there not too long ago. If we sign the young 24 year old...Norv thinks he is GOOD

I will say this. The guy certainly looks the part. I watched quite a few Chargers games and Alexander had moments where he wasn't going to be stopped.

His ceiling is higher than 80% of the WRs in the NFL imo.

IF we signed Alexander we would have some giant wide receivers. Little would be the smallest one of our top four at 6'2" 220.

That could be quite nice. I am worried about trading one injury risk (Massaquoi) for another. However, Alexander has been very productive. With the cap room we have, we could offer him a modest 2 year deal with a moderately sizable roster bonus. (That would hit this year's cap only, would count against the cash minimum, and would not blow up the cap for next year)

we already did that signing Nelson (coming off ACL tear is still tough for WRs). signing Alexander would just be hedging our bets that either he or Nelson would be healthy enough to contribute IMO.

Kickalicious ended up signing with the Lions. link

Should be interesting to see how he translates in camp with some pressure on him.

I thought Alex Smith was a decent to above average TE. Great blocker. Alright hands. Just needed to improve some route running.

He was our best blocker at the TE position, but that said, his blocking was overrated. He was an OK blocker, but never a plus level blocker. He just looked better than the rest by comparison.

I hated that Marecic pick from the second the card was turned in.

Maybe we can trade him to San Francisco for a couple of late round draft picks. Harbaugh loved the guy. Maybe a chance to add another low round pick or 2.

Waitaminnut! BQ "won" that "competition" so he gets paid for his skills this year? That bar they set must sag a bunch. Still in the NFL (charities supported). He is bad.

Kickalicious...the anit-Banner crew probably will come down on Banner for not making this FA signing. Of course if he did they would come down on him for doing so...

Alex Smith...would have been cut here except for the fact that he was the only player on the Offense that was familiar with the general concepts of the WCO n had value in that. He was a good veteran leader. Of course Seneca had that knowledge also but refused to help.

I believe the Bengals are running a WCO??? not positive but pretty sure that is the foundation of their O. So he has value. For our new offense probably the new kid from the Panthers hold much much greater value to us.

"Signings" thread locked, so I'll put this here. CB Antoine Winfield signs with Seattle. 1 year, reportedly $3M. I thought the Browns might kick the tires on him, although he is 36.

That should be a wash. In return for taking Sanchez and his contract you also get Revis. Seems fair to me.

No way would I take on Sanchez, with guaranteed money, even for Revis.

Sanchez's 2013 salary of $8.2 million is fully guaranteed. A team could cut him, but they would take a big hit.

Plus, you'd be taking on an injured CB to boot.

Yeah, this deal will never happen if the Jets are insistent on Sanchez being a part of it. Just doesn't make much sense for the Bucs.

On Friday, we advanced the ball on the Darrelle Revis trade talks with a wrinkle that came as a surprise: The name of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has come up in the negotiations.

We tripped over this particular nugget while exploring whether the Jets may be trying to foist Tim Tebow onto the Bucs as part of the trade. A source with knowledge of the talks said that, while Tebow’s name hasn’t been mentioned, Sanchez’s has.

The move would make a lot of sense for the Jets, who surely would have cut Sanchez by now, if his $8.25 million base salary for 2013 weren’t fully guaranteed without offset.

Multiple reports have since emerged that the Buccaneers aren’t interested in Sanchez. Several of the reports have confirmed, however, that his name did indeed come up as a potential add-on to the deal.

If the Bucs would take Sanchez, it wouldn’t mean they necessarily want him. It would mean that they want Revis badly enough to remove from the Jets the obligation to pay Sanchez $8.25 million guaranteed — and to carry the cap space that is consumed along with it.

Apparently, Tampa’s desire to land Darrelle Revis has a limit.

Only way the Bucs consider taking Sanchez, with Revis, is if they gave up a low round pick, instead of a high pick.
Kind of like the NBA and MLB trades, a salary dump. Which, thankfully, the NFL does not seem to have occurring. My guess, is that the League, aka Goodell, aka the sheriff, strongly frowns upon such a deal.

Why wouldn''t it be?

It's just a contract, only instead of them being paid only if they make the final roster, they are paid regardless.

I mean in a trade. Could the Buccaneers take on the money the Jets owe Sanchez (maybe I mean non-guaranteed money)?

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean.

If the Bucs traded for Sanchez, then they would inherit his contract. They would then be required to pay any guaranteed money, whether or not they keep him on the roster. They could renegotiate his deal to lower his annual salaries, and maybe convert his guaranteed money into a signing bonus that would then be allocated across the life of his contract ...... but if nothing like that happened, then they would be on the hook for any future guaranteed money from the time of the trade forward.

Yeah, I was not serious. The way I read that was as if the Jets were thinking throwing in Sanchez was making it a sweeter deal. It made an iffy (expensive CB coming off an injury) proposition so much less attractive.

Looking more like James Harrison is going to be staying in our division. Probably see Cinci sign him on Monday:

If your TB, the only way you do that is if the Jets are ok with only getting a 4th for Revis and Sanchez...

If I'm TB, I'd just trade up for either Milliner or take Rhodes...

Steelers match Patriots' $2.5 million offer for Emmanuel Sanders - CBSSports.com
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on...mmanuel-sanders

The Steelers won't have to worry about losing both Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders from their receiving corps, after all. That's because the Steelers announced on Sunday that they've matched the Patriots' offer sheet for the restricted free-agent Sanders.

This means Pittsburgh, which lost Wallace to the Dolphins in free agency, will keep Sanders for the 2013 season at the $2.5 million price tag that New England offered last week.

Wrote CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora last week: “The Steelers can afford the cap hit but must decide whether it is better to take a third-round pick for a player whom they could lose for only a low compensatory pick in 2014 if he departs as an unrestricted free agent.”

As La Canfora tweeted the other day, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger lobbied hard for the Steelers to match the Patriots' offer. The Steelers decided Sanders was, in fact, worth it -- considering Pittsburgh would have to play Antonio Brown, Plaxico Burress and Jericho Cotchery at receiver if it let go of Sanders, this decision makes some sense.

Before the Patriots made their offer, Sanders would have counted $1.3 million against the Steelers' salary cap for 2013. Now, he'll cost nearly twice that much, and he'll still be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The Steelers could have let him go, and the Patriots would have had to give up a third-round draft pick in compensation. According to the latest report from the NFLPA (before this latest news), the Steelers are less than $2 million under the cap. It now appears they'll have to move around more money in order to pay its upcoming draft picks.

As for how Sanders reacted to this news? He seems fine with returning to the Steelers.

Glad the business side is out of the way. Now its back to playing football and bringing number 7 back to Pittsburgh. Love!!! #Steelernation

and, if Sanders does make a mini-leap this season, then he's an UFA next offseason anyway. well done by the Pats.

Lions release Brian Robiskie

Posted by Mike Wilkening on April 8, 2013, 6:32 PM EDT

The Lions released wide receiver Brian Robiskie on Monday, per the NFL’s transaction report.

Robiskie caught four passes for 44 yards in six games for Detroit last season, including a touchdown in the season finale against Chicago. The Lions signed Robiskie on Oct. 24, 2012, the same day the club placed Nate Burleson on injured reserve.

A second-round pick of the Browns in 2009, Robiskie has hauled in 43 passes for 485 yards and four touchdowns in four NFL seasons. He has made 14 career starts, all with Cleveland from 2009 through 2011.

Brian Robiskie’s release leaves the Lions with 10 wide receivers on the roster. His father, Terry, is the Falcons’ wide receivers coach.

Whatever team, IF ANY (and I'm not so sure there will be any) team is interested, it's b.c they are in a state of extreme desperate measures. Robo has been an epic failure.

Detroit Lions lead writer and insider Tim Twentyman reported:

Quote:

Lions re-signed WR Brian Robiskie to a one-year contract.
Robiskie's release last Monday was apparently only a procedural move. Robiskie — who has just 43 catches through four seasons — will fight for one of the Lions' final roster spots in camp.

Quarterback Seneca Wallace is back in the NFL, signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Wallace sat out the 2012 season after being released by the Browns in training camp. He went 1-6 as a starter in two seasons with Cleveland.
