Yeah he's proven he belongs on the playoff roster, and 2 of his steals were against Molina.
Unfortunately he's probably still a year away from being MLB ready, but I can't wait to see how many steals he can amass in a full season of playing every day.

Yeah hopefully the bats get going because I don't like our chances of taking the next 3.

Belated congrats to Reds and Pirate fans for clinching playoff spots. How cool would an I-71 World Series be? Would the board survive? I promise to be civil if that happens.

The Reds have won a decent number of games this year, but anybody who watches them regularly can see that there is just something not quite right about this team. Something is missing. Timely hitting is just horrible with this group. Something has just seemed off kilter all year.

Congratulations to the Tribe fans also. The Indians have really hung in there. I'd like to put the Reds pitching with the Indians hitting.

Ditto.
As far as the Reds go, it just feels like they can't get it done when it counts. No clutch.

Congrats to the Reds and their fans too. You're in. We still have to make it in, even though we are in the 1st Wild Card spot right now. Let's agree to hope that one Ohio team wins it all ..... and we'll deal with it if we wind up playing each other.

Can't believe they have to roll out Cueto Tuesday but I understand, Bailey just pitched yesterday and Latos is hurting. Not feeling good about it at all.
I never minded rooting for the Tribe, I want to see Cleveland win a chip somehow.

What they're lacking is that Pete Rose, Chris Sabo, Ryan Freel type guy who just hustles and does all the little things. This team is just to laid back all the time.

Come on Reds.
Gonna have to be a dramatic 9th at this rate, and the 2 best hitters for the Reds tonight are not going to come up unless something dramatic happens.

The minute the Pirates fans were in Cueto's head I knew he'd give up a few runs and it would be over. That was incredible.
I knew the Reds wouldn't win that game to be honest (and I'm not even a pessimistic Reds fan)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Joe Girardi as new Reds Manager? Nah, that sounds too good to actually happen.
I honestly believe that Baker should never have started Cueto for the Wild Card Game. It was only Cueto's 3rd start since coming off the DL. I would've been more comfortable with Homer Bailey starting if he had gotten enough rest.

If he leaves NY, it'll be for the Cubs job.

I didn't want to say anything after the Wild Card because I didn't want to come across as "that guy"... but the Reds looked abysmal - like they didn't care - over that last weekend of the regular season and the Wild Card. Maybe it had been like that before that, I don't know, but those four games were a joke.
Frazier and Choo were the only ones I thought were putting forth a solid effort... I'd take Votto in a NY second, but it looked like he downed a bottle of sleeping pills before each game.
I could tell what kind of a leader Baker was by his handling a few weeks back of that Phillips/reporter confrontation in his office. Guy just sat there smiling and looking away - then said it was "between you" or something when questioned about it... what's that?

Cincinnati Reds to name Bryan Price new manager Pitching coach Bryan Price will be named the 61st manager of the Reds at a press conference Tuesday. Price and general manager Walt Jocketty did not return phone calls Monday evening. Price replaces Dusty Baker, who was fired after six seasons on the job. Price and Triple-A manager Jim Riggleman were the only confirmed candidates for the job. Price has been the Reds' pitching coach since the 2010 season. Before coming to the Reds, he spent 10 years as a big league pitching coach -- first with the Seattle Mariners (2000-2005), then with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2006-2009). He began his coaching career in the Mariners' minor-league system. Price, 51, never pitched in the majors. He went 31-19 with a 3.74 ERA in the Angels' and Mariners' minor-leagues systems. He played at Cal Berkeley. He is still the all-time leader in innings pitched there. Price has turned the Reds' pitching around. In his four years, the club has finished seventh, 12th, third and fourth in the National League in ERA. In the three years before he arrived, the club was seventh, 13th and 15th. Young pitchers -- like Aroldis Chapman, Mike Leake, Tony Cingrani, Sam LeCure, J.J. Hoover and Logan Ondrusek -- have developed on his watch. Johnny Cueto and Homer Bailey took the next step under Price. He's also done a nice job with retreads, like Manny Parra and Alfredo Simon. Pitching coach is not the normal track to a manager's job. But John Farrell in Boston and Bud Black in San Diego have shown former pitchers can be successful managers. Price never managed anywhere on any level. The problem with the Reds -- perceived or real -- was with the offense. Can a pitching-oriented guy turn that around? There's some sentiment that the Reds need a fiery manager. Price is not that -- at least not publicly. He's soft-spoken and thoughtful. Price, out of loyalty to manager Bob Melvin, resigned as pitching coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks in May of 2009 after Melvin was fired. That made Price a free agent when the Reds were looking for a new pitching coach after the 2009 season. "I think he'd be unbelievable," Bronson Arroyo said when asked about Price as manager. "He's as organized as anyone in the game, he holds people as accountable as well as anyone I've seen. He doesn't buy into stereotypical things in the game, things that other people buy into that I don't feel are relevant. Price looks at evidence. He's a freaking smart guy, he makes his decision on reasonable evidence. Sometimes in baseball we go by hunches, what someone else said or they way things have gone in the past. He doesn't do that." John Fay also writes for the Cincinnati Enquirer. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb...-baker/3147521/

what are the odds you guys re-sign Choo?
he seems to be the 2nd best hitter on the market this year (after Cano).

Thats what scares me. If there were more big name hitters available i would say the chances were good. I think Choo likes it in Cincy and the Reds should be contenders again next year but they won't get into a bidding war for him. If they can get him for less then 12mil a year i think they'll try their best to resign him but once the bidding hits the 12 mill mark i think the Reds will pass. Supposedly Brandon Phillips is on the block so that would free up about 11 or 12 mill for next year.

if you are looking at $12mil/year, then he is gone.
Nick Swisher got nearly $15mil/year & Michael Bourn $12mil/year from the Indians last year. Choo is a much, much better hitter than either (and a superior fielder to Swisher especially if he gets to play more RF). He has had a 129 OPS+ or above 5 of the last 6 seasons. Above 140 in 3 of those seasons.
I was more wondering if you thought that the Reds might have the $18-20mil/year that he is going to command on the open market as I wasn't sure if you were getting any additional local TV money or anything this offseason.

The only way i can see them going over the 12mill mark is if the Reds do trade Phillips and can get a replacement 2nd basemen fairly cheap. Bronson Arroyo is also a Free Agent and i think the Reds want to re-sign him too.
