So how did they give him a physical then? Or did he fail it and they signed him anyway on a crossing of the fingers ordeal?

Something doesn't add up right for me.

Much like the Dolphins signing Grimes even though he can't play yet, the Browns examined Nelson, and are satisfied with his progress towards recovery. It's not that unusual. Any player coming off of an injury may not be able to participate, or participate fully, right away. If the team is satisfied with his progress and outlook they'll still sign him though.

Plus, let's face it, Nelson wasn't a speed burner before. He is a huge receiver with exceptional hands. He's 6'5", has nice, soft hands, runs good routes, and is supposed to be super competitive. He sounds like he could be a leader of the WR corp.

He really sounds like a Joe Jurivisis type to me (and yes, I know I misspelled it)

He is very similar, only younger. He is also a very good blocker.

I had to go back and look, but Joe J was here in 2007 when we had that ridiculous year. He had a decent year.. Very clutch. 50 Receptions, 614 yards, 12.3 average and 3 TD's.

I'd take that out of Nelson, wouldn't you?

Uhhh, it's spelled "Jerseyvicious". Come on, you're on the internet.

Actually, it's "Jurevicius". I had to use the Google machine to get it.

Joe was huge for us in '07. I know his numbers weren't the greatest, but DA always looked for him on 3rd down. Joe was the only intelligent WR we had and he would find the holes in the zone coverages. Joe and DA would move the chains. That is very important. He would also make sight adjustments and hot reads. DA trusted him. Not having Joe in 2008 and afterward was a very big setback for DA and the Browns offense.

I'm hoping Nelson could be similar to Joe. I don't think he'll get downfield quite the way Joe did, but hopefully, this guy will be clutch on 3rd down and move the chains for us.

Working as a slot guy, 50 receptions for 614 years is respectable I think.. don't you?

Isn't Little the best person to fill the "Jurevicius" role?

He could be. But that's not what I was saying. All I was doing is remarking on what Ytown said. To me, his description of Nelson reminded me of what one could say about Jurevicius.

I'm neither advocating Nelson be that guy or not. Just stating what I thought of what Ytown was saying about him.

I actually think the two are very different. Jurevicius was a good route runner, with excellent hands, who was exceptional at reading the defense and being where he needed to be WHEN he needed to be there. He wasn't especially athletic or a good YAC guy. He was a chain mover in the sense that he would catch a pass in a zone soft spot 8 yards down the field on 3rd and 7.

Little is more of an athletic, YAC guy, who we all know has had his share of trouble catching the ball. His 3rd and 7 strength would be catching a pass 4 yards down the field and turning it into an 8 yard reception after rumbling for the extra four yards. He's much more of an athlete, but a bit less cerebral, and at this point obviously less experienced than Joe was.

IMHO, the only two notable similarities between the two are their good blocking and their willingness to go for the ball in traffic.

If we get that out of Nelson, then we'll have a better year offensively than most people anticipate. (as long as Little and Gordon are both healthy all year)

Agreed. If Nelson can put up those numbers as our anticipated #3, hopefully that would mean the two guys in front of him are producing at a higher level.

Heck, maybe that means Richardson's production is allowing WO success like that....Which means Weeden is doing great too.....

Wait...starting to get a little ahead of myself.

That's TERRIBLE!
Heck, that's barely more than 1 reception every 12 season.
