Quarterback Colt McCoy refused to say anything bad about the Browns after being traded to San Francisco. But his recent gushing about the 49ers says everything he could about his view of the situation in Cleveland.
“When I walked in the building in San Francisco, it was the same feel [as at UT],” McCoy tells Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It’s a great organization, and their only focus is: We want to win, and we want to win now. That’s obviously different than some of the things that I’ve been part of the last few years. I was really happy about that.”
In other words, the Browns don’t have that vibe. And he’s not upset about being gone from Cleveland.
In San Francisco, he knows he’ll be the backup. “That’s my role — to back up Colin [Kaepernick],” McCoy said. “We all want to play. I think everybody’s career takes a different path. Ultimately, starting is the goal. But Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and [offensive coordinator Greg] Roman are great offensive minds. There are so many positives there that I’ll go in and learn. I’m in my playbook right now. That’s kind of my job right now — get familiar with the system, what we’re doing.”
As McCoy enters the final year of his rookie deal, a chance to learn from Harbaugh and Roman could help prepare him to go elsewhere and compete for playing time or a starting job in 2014. In a quarterback-starved league, crazier things have happened.

So let me get this straight, Colt likes it in SF better, because they "want to win" because obviously Cleveland doesn't want to?
We had a "losing vibe" while he was here, maybe him not being a good QB had someone to do with it..?
The real question is... What does his dad and brother think about it?
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Remember that everything he knew about NFL football came under Holmgren & Heckert and then Shurmur in his second year.
I'll bet, if asked the same question of Brandon Weeden (or anyone else currently on the Browns), you wouldn't get much of a different answer if they spoke openly about it.

It's sad to admit, but we are considered one of the laughing stocks of the NFL. We have a losing perception because, quite frankly, we have done nothing but lose. We've had incompetent management and coaching, which is the main reason for our failures the past decade and a half. While talking to the media or the fans the Browns players will ACT like things are on the right track and they are hopeful about the future ... but in all actuality, they hate playing here and if given the choice, would play elswhere.
I've mentioned this a few times on this board, but one of my best friends will be drafted in one of the first 2 rounds this year. About a month ago we were hanging out and I finally asked him about where he wants to go. He told me the Giants, Patriots, Steelers, or 49ers (and all of them have been in pretty close contact with him). I then asked him about the Browns and he literally laughed and said "NO WAY." He told me all of the players at the combine ripped on the bad franchises in the NFL (Browns, Bills, Raiders, etc) and said no one wants to go there. (and by the way, he was/is a Browns fan like me since he was born).
I wasn't surprised to hear his admission at all, but it is still disheartening to hear. The only way to shake the dark cloud is to WIN. Winning is the only thing that will change the perception.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Might matter if I was listening to their starter. Shurmy had plenty to do with whatever vibe being lousy .

Oh well, Colt could have helped that "vibe" here if he were anything but bench-riding material.
Them words fall on deaf ears for me.

Yes, that's what he's saying, and in the past, apparently the "want to win" vibe hasn't been here and I think he's right. I think he's dead on. And I don't care what the hell his father has to say. didn't care before, don't care now. ' Colt was a class act here. Total class act. Nice kid by all accounts. I wish him nothing but the best.

Colt has handled all of this with class. I hope he does well in San Fran and has a long career- probably as a backup, which is what he really is anyways.
Of course there is a different vibe in San Fran, they just played in and lost the superbowl. They should expect to be back, and they just loaded the deck to make a serious run at it.

The only way I see that as being true is that the former front office went young, younger, and youngest when deciding which players would be on the team, Maybe we might have been able to win an extra game here or there if we had stayed with veteran players, and had replaced McCoy when it became obvious that he was struggling early in his 2nd season.
The Niners are a veteran team, who has been through the growing pains. They are plugging holes at backup QB and Kicker. I believe that their biggest move was signing Asomugha ..... which is significant ..... but hardly a "break the bank. long term deal". It was a 1 year deal.
The Niners are set at almost every starting spot. Their players are experienced in their systems, and have been winners the past 2 years.
Prior to that, they were floating along in the 5-8 win stream for years ..... and I doubt that many players would have credited a winning environment.

Colt has handled this, along with pretty much everything (even the being sent back into the game after a clearly hard hit/concussion) with class.
The kid is def blue collar, no doubt about it.

Personally I think it's a pretty punk thing to do to Cleveland. When he makes that statement he is speaking about an owner and regime that no longer exists. But he makes no mention of that he just generalizes. Did he get the short end of the stick? Of course he did but no one that gave it to him is here any longer. All he had to do was say the past is past now he is a 49'er and move on. The cheap shot at a team that already has to fight to get out of the H&H hole is pretty classless to me....just sayin.

It sounds like Colt is saying what I thought about our previous FO.My thought- Holmgrens main job was to deflect all things Browns away from an owner who wanted nothing to do with the team. His secondary goal was to hire his agents other clients. Heckert was here to try to build a winning team. But I don't think our FO was "all in".

Colt ripped Mangini after he was gone. He's ripping on the Browns now that he's gone from there. Warranted or not, it seems to be his thing. I suspect he'll have similar things to say about SF when they don't re-sign him after this season.
For me though, I couldn't care less. It'd be different if he was successful despite the general ineptitude of the team while he was here, but he was very much a part of all of it. I'll forever filter anything he has to say through the lens of knowing he's the QB who came out and admitted that he threw balls into the ground on purpose in a game because his teammates were tired, and have a quick chuckle to myself. Then I'll think about the people who said that that made him a good teammate, and have another quick chuckle. Then I'll move on with my day.

FWIW, he isn't lying. The Bowns were in rebuild mode his entire time here. When he said "They want to win, they want to win now ...", I believe the key word was "now". I sure don't remember any great sense of urgency from Holmgren's FO to "win now".

San Francisco doesn't want to win any more than the Browns. They are just a more talented team. People ascribing things to motivation and desire are usually silly.
There is no chance Colt McCoy would be the starter in San Francisco = Winning attitude and desire to win.
Michael Jordan just wanted it more. His success had nothing to do with freakish athletic ability and an immense ability to focus. Same nonsense.

A true "class act" wouldn't have gone out of his way to throw this town or team under the bus.
I don't wish any ill will against him or the 9ers. Good luck and hope to see them in the Super Bowl, against us.

Also, even Haslam has come out and said that "we're a couple of years off".
In any case, McCoy doesn't owe any soundbites to us at all, he owes them to his new constituency. Furthermore, when you consider that his former constituency is a perennial loser that has never been in contention for anything but the top of the draft his entire career, and his new one is now a perennial contender for the Super Bowl.... I really don't see how anyone can take issue with what he says unless you're just looking for excuses to be upset about things.

Don't let the Bozos get you down...they love throwing the Browns under the bus - it makes them feel good somehow The Bozo comes away with:
Quote:
In other words, the Browns don’t have that vibe. And he’s not upset about being gone from Cleveland.
possibly the later of that quote is true. But the first part is nothing close to what he stated.
But actually this is what Colt stated and I quote:
Quote:
We want to win, and we want to win now. That’s obviously different than some of the things that I’ve been part of the last few years.
I read the last few years which to me would be 2010 - 2012. There was not any iota of a reference to what is out HERE NOW. After all he hasn't experienced one TEAM Mini Camp yet from the new Guys.
So he was talking about well exactly what he said..."the last few years"
Why I call these guys BOZOS...they will say anything. Mostly totally ignorant of what was actually said n almost always IGNORANT about our Browns.
JMHO - Just for the record, Obviously 49ers have established a winning history with their present team...I'm sure the vibe is there n Colt is happy going there. Good for him.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

McCoy is gone, and I, for one, am thrilled. I don't care if I ever hear another word from Colt McCoy, Daddy McCoy, Little Brother McCoy, Mama McCoy, Baby McCoy, or any other member of the McCoy clan.
McCoy is in a perfect situation. He is on a supremely talented team, and he probably won't have to play very much. Oh, and he'll make over $2 million this year. (assuming that he makes the team) Not bad for clipboard money.

So he likes the place that wants him and dislikes the place that doesn't want him. Shocker.
Between Daboll cursing at him through the QB headset and being Shurmured, these comments are not surprising.

If the comments I have read in this thread represent the general thinking of Browns fans then there is no doubt I am in the minority. The statement is blunt but it has thering of truth to me. The Browns have not even established the ability to close out games when leading late.I did see some signs of mental toughness last year but it often wilted sometime in the 4th quarter. There is no way the collective mentality of this franchise rivals that of San Francisco.
Winning is the only thing that can change it.

My most memorable Colt McCoy moment was the time he threw a pass, it got tipped at the line, and the wounded duck fell to the ground. Pass interference was called, P.I. can't be called after the ball is tipped and that is a challengeable call. Unfortunately the replay showed the ball was never actually tipped. D'oh.
I will give Colt one thing, he should be pissed off that he was ever put back in that Pittsburgh game where he got creamed. He could have gotten Shurmurdered. Other than that though, the guy is a fringe backup talent IMO and only because NFL caliber QBs are so scarce, and the guy does work hard. Other than that though I'm not going to miss his family and him taking shots at the Browns every time the team does something that is not in the McCoy family's best interests. Again I can understand his dad unloading because of the Steelers debacle but that's about it.

All I know is that I'm hoping like hell that Kaepernick and Wilson are both injured for the inevitable Monday Night Football matchup between San Fran and Seattle. Watching Colt and Brady go at it with absolutely no dog in the fight would be comedy gold.

Save it. This FO screwed the pooch when they let Colt walk for the second to the last pick of the draft. They're starting off on the wrong foot if you ask me. Colt should have been allowed to compete for the starter and then, and only then, traded... since clearly we have all pros at the QB positon to take our team to the next level. But, it's whatever. I could care less at this point... Let Dawson, Cribbs and McCoy go and trade away Acho(who showed potential before his injury last year) for another meaningless player just speaks volumes.
I'm usually hyped up for the draft and optimistic about the future at this point but seems as how this FO seems to not have a clue about how to run a responsible operation, I'm unusually reserved. Yay, good job FO... good job.

What potential did Acho show last year before he got hurt? He struggled with learning the defense. He lacked any impact at all on the field. He looked slow in practices, and lost from everything I heard and read. Which of his 1 pre-season tackles impressed you the most?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

What does his dad and brother think about it?
Yes. Poetic G, please answer this for us!
Yay, good job FO... good job.
Now someone correct me here, but didn't we get a higher sixth and a seventh round pick for Colt and our sixth round pick and if so, wouldn't that make your assertion that we gave up Colt for ONLY a late 7th rounder. So If I'm right, you aren't.
You know,, this whole thing about Dawson and Cribbs is getting pretty old really. I liked them both, would have liked to keep them, but I get it. Cribbs was turning into a one trick pony and Dawson is 38 years old. Now, having said that, I get it, both still can play (and both will, just somewhere else), but neither would be around when this team is expected to contend. (According to haslam, it's going to be 2 or 3 years)
So why pay them? Why not take this time to find replacements will be here for the next 6+ years.
They added a solid OLB and DE. They landed a Receiver that has talent, we'll see if they can bring it out of him. The let go of some aging players like Gocong, Fujita, Brown and Dawson. They added another OLB that is talented within Hortons plan and a couple of CB's that may or may not even make the team.
They brought in a QB to compete with Weeden as well and I expect a QB to be drafted as well.
And, we still have the draft, more FA's, UDFA's, cutdowns etc to add some things.
I should be clear here, I'm not sure this is the best front office. But I don't know they aren't either.
I'd say its too early to really tell. it's like telling a baker his cake tastes bad while he's still adding ingredients and hasn't put it in the oven yet.
Just sayin
