Explosion reported near finish line of Boston marathon Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon have resulted in injuries, according to officials on scene. Immediately, the scene was being described on social media outlets from people close to the scene. BOSTON —Two explosions have been reported near the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street as thousands of people gathered for the race, and there are reports of injuries. More The blasts happened at about 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Boylston and Exeter streets. Store fronts have been blown out, and there have been reports of dozens of injuries. Images: Boston Marathon explosions Witnesses said several victims lost limbs, the race was stopped and the area is being evacuated. The first explosion happened across from the Lenox Hotel and the second blast was about 15 seconds later, witnesses said. Many of the injured appeared to be spectators who gathered for the 117th running of the race. NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly said the impact of the explosions could be felt blocks away. Yes, I did... for as much as my inappropriate self wanted to make the joke (and only runners/marathoners would even come close to getting the reference), I felt that it was just way too over-the-top to leave it posted.

Doesn't look like it, but it's always better to wait and see how this develops.
Early reports are that there was one blast that came from inside the hotel, and a second smaller blast nearby.
This is really scary stuff.

Boston General is reporting at least 10 people in the ER for amputated limbs. This is just terrible.

I think that they should punish people who do this stuff appropriately.
If you plant bombs and kill someone, then you should be tied to a chair, with a bomb attached ...... maybe a small bomb that would take a limb as well ..... with an undetermined timer .... maybe it goes off today .... maybe tomorrow ...... maybe a week from today. Work in some false alarms, and really give the bomber the full experience of what they did to others.

IED is simply a fancy acronym that means it was a homemade bomb. It is most commonly, these days, associated with the roadside bombs if Iraq and Afghanistan.

My guess would be a 10-20 pounds of homemade explosives like ammonium nitrate aluminum. Which would explain the relatively small size of the blast and the casualties that are worse would obviously be the ones right next to the explosion while a lot of the other injured would be caused by over pressure from the blast. No apperant shrapnel, based on reported casualty figures, people are reporting lost limbs but that's most likely just from proximity to the initial blast.

terrorists, probably. N Korea is unlikely. We had bomb threats at several local schools today as well, the calls were made from a BMV...what the heck??
