If Lane Johnson is there at six we will be bombarded with offers.

I was watching NFL network last night and Mayock said that he thougth the pick would be Geno because the Browns haven't been vocal in expressing areas of interest, blah, blah and Banner saying in the past that it is all about the qb, you can never have enough. Then the network goes to Berea and Solomon Wilcots takes the talk further by saying that the Browns did have interest in Geno but absolutely "fell in love" with E.J. Manuel and could move down in the first and pick up that second and still get Manuel but if that didn't happen, he could see them even taking Manuel at #6. Then this morning coming into work, Billick was talking about the Browns taking a qb at #6 and I had to turn it off before I ran into a tree.

Not gonna happen, considering we don't have a 2nd.

Plus, Ian Rapoport, via a little blue bird, says the talks aren't going anywhere, and that the Browns, "like Weeden at this point"

So they drafted him in the 3rd, he's done pretty much nothing of note in the league, and now is worth a 2nd round pick?

How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

My best guess as to what will happen tonight.

Browns trade #6 to San Francisco

for

#31, #61, 2014 First Round pick.

San Fran takes Milliner.

I would do that without a second thought. That would be an amazing value, especially in this draft.

However, I wonder if Milliner is worth that big an investment.

Trade chart, assuming the 49ers picked 25th in 2014 makes it virtually an even trade.

1600 is the value of pick #6.

1596 is the total of what San Fran would be giving up.

Could be to a team that feels like they are that close.

I would probably do that trade. I think I'd push for another late pick though.

We got 4 picks from Atlanta if I'm not mistaken. Atlanta was not picking as late either.

We swapped 1's, got a second and fourth, and the following year got their 1 and 4.

And people think we got taken to the cleaners on that move. I understand that draft class vs this one, but still.

I'd ask for more.

Browns could be trying to get Geno Smith before Philly

Posted by Mike Florio on April 25, 2013, 1:15 PM EDT

At a time when many believe the Browns would like to jump the draft-pick line in front of the Eagles to get a pass rusher, some think that the Browns could be targeting a pass thrower.

There’s a building buzz that the Browns could be plotting to move from No. 6 to No. 3 to get quarterback Geno Smith before the Eagles take him at No. 4.

The move, if it happens, would be a shock.  Smith currently is regarded as a guy who could slide to the bottom of round one, if not out of the first round completely.

Still, it makes more sense to move up for Smith than a pass rusher, given that there are more than a few of them pegged for the top ten — Ziggy Ansah, Dion Jordan, Barkevious Mingo, to name a few.

The Eagles have shown strong interest in Smith.  The entourage that traveled last month to Morgantown for a private workout with Smith included owner Jeffrey Lurie.  While most think the Eagles wouldn’t be inclined to use a rare (for Philly) top-five pick on a quarterback at a time when Mike Vick and Nick Foles are under contract, the one thing that everyone is expecting with new coach Chip Kelly is something unexpected.

For the Browns, a move to No. 3 would mark the second straight year in which the Browns climbed into the three spot.  Last year, the Browns traded from No. 4 to No. 3 to get running back Trent Richardson.  This year, a move to get Geno Smith would be far bolder.

But it would at least go a long way toward getting folks in Cleveland to quit talking about Jimmy Haslam and Pilot Flying J.

I would demand #31, #34, #61 and maybe some mid-round picks (3rd, 4th, or 5th) this year.

The Falcons moved up from the 27th spot and gave up 27, 59, and 124 and future 1st and 4th round picks.

I would expect about the same.

Mallett really reminds me a little too much of Derek Anderson ..... big, lumbering kid, with a rocket launcher attached to his shoulder ....... inconsistent ..... poor footwork and mechanics ...... streaky accuracy ........ however, Chud got a marvelous year out of DA1 .... so maybe he could do even better with DA2. Who knows?

I always try to give a new front office/coaching staff the benefit of the doubt initially ..... so I'll do that in this case ..... if it is the case. We'll see what happens.

Ryan Mallett seems almost equivalent to Tyler Bray to me (who we can certainly get for a 4th). Mallett might get up to speed faster, so maybe I'd send a third, but nothing more than that.

Honestly, though are any of these candidates any better than Weeden?

I don't want a QB at all. I'm happy with Weeden/Campbell.

But if we DO draft a QB, the ONLY one I won't lose my mind about is Matt Barkley.

Barkley is still the best QB in this draft.

Barkley is Brady Quinn. Overrated college QB who will do nothing in the NFL. I want no part of him, unless it's with a 6th or 7th round pick.

I actually love Barkley -- if we were still running the WCO. His biggest plus is that he makes very quick decisions. He just doesn't fit in this offense, because he has no deep ball.

I don't particularly like Tyler Bray, but he does have the huge arm that we need. He reminds me a lot of JaMarcus Russell (huge arm, can be accurate, puzzling decisions, questionable character). That's a guy I would be willing to take a risk on in the 4th (just not #1 overall).

My favorite target for this offense is Landry Jones, big arm, quick decisions - four year starter. I'm not sure that he's better than Weeden, but I'd definitely throw a 4th and see how it works out.

Yeah pretty much this.

That being said, he was pretty successful with the deep ball throwing to Woods and Lee.

I don't see any elite level abilities in him. I don't like his arm at all. He also has the dreaded smaller hands. On middle to deep passes he floats the ball more than zipping it in. He's a pure pocket passer without the height, size, or arm to be a pure pocket passer. When he throws off balance, he throws something that makes wounded ducks look healthy.

I see his upside as a potential Alex Smith type ..... not the arm/size ... but I think that he will need absolutely everything perfect around him to have any chance at being successful.

I hope we pass on him. I want no part of him. I certainly don't see anything that says "All Pro " to me. I see Brady Quinn more than anything else.

I don't agree - he was pretty successful throwing a lazy deepball to two top receivers who could go up and beat the DB for it.

Any pro QB can do that.

He doesn't have the sort of downfield rifle that beats coverage deep.

Maybe I'm wrong about the hands, but I have seen that on more than one report on him.

His mobility is not a positive as far as I see. He's also a USC QB ..... and there have been very few successful NFL QBs coming from USC recently. (Carson Palmer aside)

He's not a running QB, but he's not a statue like Jones or Glennon (or Weeden.) He can avoid pressure.

According to your size limitations (if Barkley is only an inch too short), that means there are only 5 QBs in the draft big enough to be pocket passers: turnover machine Glennon, fainting Landry Jones, maddening EJ Manuel, inconsistent Tyler Bray, and Tim-Tebow-without-the-charisma Collin Klein.

No QB in the first. Continue to build the D. Ziggy Ansah should still be on the board at 6. I say take him. The Browns pass rush could be one of the best in the league with Ziggy, Kruger, and Bryant.

Or take Dee Milliner. That would be a nice secondary with Haden and Milliner at the corners.

I have watched quite a few USC games, and I am simply not impressed with Barkley at all. I don't like him really in any regard.

He beat up some really bad teams last year. He threw 16 of his TD passes against Hawaii, Syracuse, and Utah. Hardly stingy defenses there. He threw ... what .... 20 against everyone else?

He played well against bad teams. He had elite receivers. He easily had a top 5 1-2 receiving corps in Woods and Lee. He had a very nice, productive run attack, that kept him in really good down/distance situations. He played with a defense that consistently sacked opposing QBs, and picked them off.

The only consistent thing I saw about Barkley is how consistently unimpressed I was with him. I didn't see difference making throws. I didn't see NFL throws. I saw a lot of lofts, and floats, and plays that won't be there in the NFL.

He may make people look back fondly on Marc Sanchez and Matt Leinart as pro QBs.

just getting these thoughts out there:

I think all 5 selections head of our pick are for tackles (3xOT and 2xDT).
I think a Mountaineer is taken #6.
I think that WVU player is Tavon Austin but for the Rams.
I think the Cleveland Browns will select Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington & Tyler Eifert, TE, ND in the 1st round.
