Bess is a proven slot receiver. We don't have one of those.
Norwood is pretty close... his only problem is that he was vastly underutilized by the Shurmster. It's hard to become consistent when you only see the field once in a blue moon. What's he played, like 15 games in three years? I think he only played in two games last year, and had a huge game against the Giants... I know he got hurt that game, but I can't remember how long he was out. Anyway, I would work with Norwood before trading my 4th rounder for Bess.

In fairness, Norwood was hurt last year.

In fairness, you should have read my entire post. Regardless, the Giants game was game 5.

Heard this on the radio and I think it makes perfect sense....
1. How much did Baltimore get for Boldin? 2. Does Bess even have a place on Miami's roster at this point?
This 5th round draft pick stuff makes no sense to me. The Browns should offer a 7th IF they really want him or let Miami cut him. Bess will not be on Miami's roster next year. There is no way any team should give up more than what SF did for Boldin.
7th or nothing at all.....

What? Bess has a save roster spot. He was their best WR the last couple of seasons. Them signing Gibson was stupid, but they have 4 WRs in Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Bess and Bess is their only slot-option....why should they cut him again? My suspicion is that they want to draft Austin and THAT would make Bess expendable
I'm chatting with a Dolphins diehard (no homer) and he's saying if they can't get the value of a 3rd, he'd keep Bess as he's that good and important to them
We'd already get him cheaper with a 5th, but Ireland reportedly wants both 4th and 5th....I'd offer the late 5th from the 9ers and maybe some pick swap in the 4th (from 103 to 111)

The only way this would makes sense is if Bess was an add on for a trade up scenerio where the Fish swap their 12th pick with our 6th pick along with their 2 rounder, Bess, and maybe their 4th or 5th as well.
No, I have no idea who Sam Axe is.

A third rounder? Sorry, but that's ridiculous. And I don't think Bess's roster spot is safe. Tons of reports have suggested he may be on the way out of a spot. How true is any of that? I don't know. But I find it curious to suggest he's safe while his GM is shopping him to multiple teams......

Just a question...ask the dolphin fan, if he's "that good and important to them"...why are they shopping him...?
Not trying to be a smart....here, just that thier statement kinda contradicts itself.

If he's that good, I don't see the Fish letting him go. wouldn't make sense would it?

As I said, he's suspecting interest in WR Austin at pick 12. Austin is a younger, much more athletic slot-WR than Bess....and probably cheaper (and signed for 3 more years)....anything else doesn't make much sense for him. He also hates the GIbson signing n FA....maybe the plan is to play Hartline inside? Not sure what Ireland is thinking
I wold be reluctant to trade the high 4th for Bess simply because of his contract status...that alone should drive the asking price down. A 5th + some swap or future late rounder sounds fair to me

I think the Bess trade is a pre-cursor trading the 12th pick for our 6th pick. They get one of our 5th round picks and we get their last 2nd round pick. They will pick Johnson or Milliner with the 6th pick and we will take Manuel with the 12th pick.

Too many people around here wanna be chiefs. Not enough Indians. Too many of you are acting like experts. Sheesh, you don't even know what the hell a slot/possession receiver is. Suggesting that Benjamin would be good in that role is beyond ludicrous.
Bess is a guy who gets open. He is able to read zone coverages. He is very tough. He makes difficult catches. He moves the chains. He will take big hits. Benjamin is ABSOLUTELY NONE of those things! And Bess offers everything that a slot/possession receiver needs to be.
I get why most fans are infatuated w/big guys like Gordon and Little. You like big guys. Fast guys. Built guys. But please, don't belittle an excellent slot/possession receiver like Bess because he doesn't have the measurables.
I think it would be good if we could trade down w/Miami because they want to move up for a tackle and Bess is part of the trade.
And I probably need to clarify this. I have no problem w/guys having opinions, but when you really don't know the intricacies of the game, you probably should get all high and mighty and pretend you are a freaking expert.

If Davone Bess was that great he wouldn't be dangling for a low-round draft pick right now.

First of all...I think I've seen this guy play more than just about the entire board combined. He was a star here, great physical shifty guy who took it to the house all the time. Check his stats. Pretty awesome.
Now there are two things to consider.
1. He's only under contract for 2013. Therefore there is no way we're trading anything more than a 6th rounder for him.
2. If you had to get a first down on 3rd and 8 who is more reliable Bess on our team. Nobody. Period. And he can make a guy miss over the middle. He's got moves. He's a first down machine.
I would love to pick him up. He'd be Mr. First Down here.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but Welker and Joe J would fit into that category, n'est-ce pas?

Also, people here don't seem to understand that the terms "slot" and "possession receiver" aren't mutually exclusive.

Give it a rest. If not, I will bring out the guns.
No way will Benjamin thrive in the slot. He is very raw. His routes are terrible. He is far from a tough guy [that is an euphemism for a football sissy]. He is not a student of the game. He doesn't fight for the ball. He doesn't like contact. And you want to put him in the slot and claim he would be better than Bess?
Really?
I'm sorry for being mean, but again, too many self-proclaimed experts around here that wanna dictate and don't want to learn.

You have me misunderstood. As much as I'd like to see Benjamin given a shot in the slot, I understand it's not going to happen.
But I don't like how some here are scolding others for making outlandish claims, and then making outlandish claims themselves. There are plenty of slot guys who don't fit your above mold of the ideal slot guy. All slot receivers are not the same.

Dolphins looking for higher pick for Davone Bess The Miami Dolphins are NOT making progress in trade talks with the Cleveland Browns involving WR Davone Bess because the team is looking for a higher draft pick than the Browns have offered. 2013-04-26 13:32:18 | Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Davone Bess - WR - Browns
Browns acquired WR Davone Bess from the Dolphins. Bess was nothing more than a sure-handed slot receiver in Miami, catching 321 passes over five seasons but averaging just 10.7 yards per grab and scoring a mere 12 touchdowns in 77 games. It's still a low-risk grab for the Browns, who have have Josh Gordon and Greg Little outside but question marks inside in the form of David Nelson. Bess, still just 27, has a good chance to emerge as the Browns' primary slot man this season.
Next years 2nd rounder. KIDDING! No report yet on what we gave Miami. linker
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).
