And I think those in favor of gay marriage don't need to be answering social issue questions during a football interview either. Again, it's not germain to the discussion. I'm equal opportunity there. Now, if the question had been about gays in the locker room, it does relate to a football discussion...discuss away, even if you're answer is I'm not with that, or it's bring it on...but in either case, in my opinion, the end of that sentence should be, but it's about football, so lets go out there and win some damn games.
I guess what I'm saying is that I don't really care what most celebs have to say about social issues and if you're being interviewed about football. A movie, a record or a tv show, I don't really expect or necessarily even want to hear about gun control, gay rights or any other hot button issue. I'm reading or watching th interview to hear about whatever it is you're stumping. But interviewers are going to ask the questions and the celebs are going to answer regardless of if I think the time isn't right for them to answer the question or not. And now it's time for one of my least favorite cliches...it is what it is.

And I have, in the past, chosen not to exercise that right, which was in solidarity with my fellow morons that were just too lazy to vote.

Ideally I wish athletes mirrored my own feelings on social issues... I wish all athletes voted and thought and spoke out the same way I would.. then I wouldn't have to worry about which athletes my kids looked up to because their feelings would be similar to my own. Unfortunately athletes are individuals who are going to think and act independently based on their own beliefs.

Because that is the basis for people's beliefs. I have had this discussion with people many times.... People of faith don't just turn it off when they start talking politics then turn it back on again on Sunday morning... it's who you are, it's what you think. I'm not saying it's right but it's the way of the world. I hate the fact that religious ideology is somehow considered worse than other ideologies when it comes to dictating law...
Some people are of the ideology that you would be better off as a person and we would be better off as a society if you are prohibited by law from purchasing a coke over 24 ounces... others believe you/we would be better off if we were not exposed to gay marriage.... so the same response should apply. If you don't like gay marriage then don't get gay married... if you think 44 ounce cokes are bad, then don't buy one. Yet a lot of people will defend one and not the other... and a lot of people will use the fact that one has a basis in religion as a reason to think it's unjust while defending the other...

They absolutely do.
I don't really recall Christian members of our government citing the first commandment when it comes to going to war or bombing a country.
For the vast majority, religion isn't some rigid doctrine that is closely followed ... people pick and choose what they like, and discard what they don't.
It's pretty arbitrary.
People like to pretend it's not, but it is.
Most people leave their religion at the door when it doesn't suit them.
I doesn't make them bad ... just hypocritical (which we all are, religious or otherwise).
