I don't see how any fan can "hate" a Browns player.
Many of the players didn't have a choice in the matter (they were drafted). And I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority do everything in their power to compete at their highest level.
Take a guy like David Veikune. It wasn't any fault of his that he was drafted in the second round by Mangini. As a person who watched him play at Hawaii I knew that was way beyond where he should have gone. And that level of production which was poor elicited "hate" from fans. Completely misplaced hate.
There are guys like Marecic and St. Claire that are miserable football players but I don't hate them. There are guys like Earl Little who write checks their body can't cash but I know that some people have to talk themselves up.
Finally a there are guys like Braylon who are given all the talent in the world but it goes squandered which is disappointing but shouldn't register to a level of hate.
I just find it of poor character to hate a player.
Art Modell consciously made a decision in his best interest at the tremendous expense of the city of Cleveland and the teams fans that I do think can register as a reason for hate.
But outside of that feeling hate towards a player is really low IMO.
I think the hatred is more of their game than anything else.
I hated Brady Quinn and Colt McCoy's game, but as people, I don't have any problems with them.
Although in some cases, I don't blame them. I don't have anything against Pat Shurmur. He was maybe the worst coach in Browns history. He was historically bad. However, he would have been an even bigger idiot to not take that job, even though he wasn't qualified for it. I blame Mike Holmgren for the horrible job Pat did.

Does anyone else remember Chip Banks? He was one of the better LB's weve ever had, but man, he could not wait to get out of here. I don't hate anybody, I think all Browns players are the best, does not matter if it is true or not, just like family. Beside Art, I guess Clark and Policy, just because of what Diam was saying about them....turned out the dude knew what he was talking about. Of course the "bellyache" for giving Bernie the boot.

Alright it was the 1980's, the team was on the verge of winning the super bowl over and over. The team had Kosar, Slaughter, Brennan, Mack and Byner. The defense was stout, there were so many big name guys on the team. At that time, there was one player, he was an old guy, even then, he had played a long time. He had some stupid streak going, with consecutive games with 1 catch.
I didn't like his game. I hated this dude, and I had no reason why. But maybe it was just my wavelength sending me a message from the future. Because he's not a Brown anymore. He's the Ravens GM. I hated Ozzie Newsome all the way through the 80's and I had no reason why. I acknowledge he had some big talent and made some plays. I just didn't appreciate anything he did. He just seemed sour to me. I was always just hoping OTHER GUYS would make plays because I didn't like it whenever he did.
So Ozzie Newsome. Another guy I didn't like a whole lot, or appreciate, was KW2. Maybe it was because he sat out 2 years with injury before having a productive season, and the one was kind of his own fault.
I don't hate tight ends altogether though. I have appreciation for Mark Edwards, and his limited positive plays.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I never understood the Veikune pick. Mangini was all about players who love the game, and are all effort types ...... and Veikune never seemed to fit that mold at all.

All you ever heard about the guy was 'high-motor' and 'relentless'.
You'd have to ask Hel how accurate that was, as the guy barely made the field, but that's what all our staff and all the talking heads were saying.

He never seemed to me to be a high motor guy. That was kinda what I meant. It was like someone in the draft room relied upon a scouting report from soon to be fired scouts who were mad that they were on their ways out, instead of actually having seen the guy play.

i think mangini was hoping to get his version of bruschi. his ego and arrogance thought he saw something that no one else did.

It was a word. Change it to "most disliked." Sheesh.
And it is hilarious that you are talking about character. Kissing feet, petulant child, thanking people for namecalling, etc. And you have the nerve to talk about character? If you don't like the thread..............stay off of it. Seems like other people are replying despite your hateful attitude.
Btw; you never answered if you are a ref or not. How else could you get away w/all your rule infractions?

He said he didn't like the pick when it happened and that Melila Purcell was better at Hawai'i.

!. Holmgren: This is an easy number one for me. I just can't stand the fat piece of crap. As a FO guy he is as bad as it gets, but hey he was here to fill his pockets.
2. Eric Wright: I just could not stand his grandstanding prime-time showboating when he actually made a play. Eric would have been an average player if he played in a flag football league.
3. Big "stealing" Money Warren: "Kill the head and the body is dead" What an idiot. If he was gonna talk such a good game, should have been able to back some of it up.
4. Savage: I hated the way he squandered away our draft picks for garbage big ticket free agents. He set us back as much as anybody.
5. Trent Dilfer: He was such a baby about how he thought he was treated while he was here. Too bad he wasn't a quarter of the player he thought he was.
Congratulations to our 2016 NBA Champion CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!!! Greatest comeback in sports history... Hail to the King!

He's obviously not a ref or you'd have been gone long ago..... While not quite as vociferous in my opinions of this thread I must admit I thought it was kind of a dopey premise. I'd also have to say I've never really "hated" a player (no matter what your definition of hate is or was). At least not a Browns player. Now a Steeler.....that's another story.....

I hate every Brown on the roster with the exception of maybe Joe Thomas.
It's LeBron's fault, since the decision I have a hatred that burns with the fire of 1,000 suns for the modern athlete.

1. Brady Quinn...hated the pick, hated the golden boy franchise savior mentality, hated his presence on the roster...hated the way his presence made the appreciation for the one season of good QBing we've had since 99 still not good enough. a 29 TD 16 INT year still wasnt good enough because of Quinn. A guy who isnt good enough to stick on any team and played horrible in his limited snaps everywhere else he's been.
2. Holmgren...I didnt like him in Seattle. I didnt like him in GB. I thought he was overrated. I know he got to the super bowl...but I didnt think any experience he had made him a genius for our football operations. I am glad he cleaned up our FO...but he just didn't get anything done in terms of football success, and the hiring of Shurmur...which wasnt bad, was poorly done as was the handling of Mangini
3. Peyton Hillis...We make a good faith attempt at extending your contract and you bristle because it isnt enough and then mail it in and torpedo our season? Eff you brah. Hope the rest of your career sucks as much as it did before your breakout year in Cleveland...thanks for Madden Cursing us.
4. MoMass...SCRUB. Never thought anything of him and the fact that he continued to be on the roster and start as long as he did...scrub. Glad hes gone.
5. Hank Poteat/Ralph Brown and the rabble of nameless 3rd corners that continually got burned for big plays and continued to not get cut. I hated all of you.
Leaving the old Browns out of it...Nothing but love in retrospect.
