When technically you should be comparing the Xbox One to the PS3...
That's unfair.
PS4 and Xbox One are completely different systems and honestly you can't compare the 2. Each has their positives and negatives. People are saying the PS4 is better because it has better graphics and I agree it has better graphics but there is more to a console then graphics.
I think the Xbox one is far superior because of the things it currently does (control my entire media center with voice control) and will do in the future DLNA support which the PS4 cannot do. Yes PS4 will have better looking games but people are making the technical specs a bigger deal then it really is. The difference of the graphics are probably 1080i and 1080p which is very insignificant. If a person cares that much about graphics they would not play on console and play on the pc which they can control best graphics for their playing style.
The Xbox One can do much more then the PS4 which to me equates to better value for my money.
Life is good when I can say..... Xbox On (turns on xbox,tv,cable box, 5.1 receiver) Xbox Go to Titan fall (starts game) Xbox Go to TV (goes to the cable box) Xbox Go to HBO Xbox Go to Titanfall Xbox Turn off (turns off xbox,tv,cable box, 5.1 receiver)

Im sitting back til both have their price drops. By then, I figure one will be obvious to me. I'm an xbox guy but if PS stays ahead and grows their lead, I'll be a turncoat.

I was a PS guy until the new gen. The no DLNA support for me was a deal breaker considering I have a server with 4 TB of content on my plex server.

I would agree except for the fact that I have no idea what DLNA or plex servers are.
Although they do sound cool....and I like cool things. Hence I must be an xbox one guy.

I too have no idea what those things are. That said I must be a PS guy because to this point I have been, and I've lived well, without them. So who really needs a DLNA or a plex server? Not this guy!

DLNA allows you to stream media, movies files over your network.
Plex Server is a handy tool that allows you to organize your content and stream the content to any device. The plex media player is an attractive video player that allows you to watch any of your content that is in you Plex library.
For example, on my PLEX server I have 270+ episodes of Dragon Ball Z (Don't judge). These files are stored upstairs which is far away from my gaming/rec room which is in my basement. What if I want to watch the Majin Boo saga in the basement? With DLNA I can stream the content from my Plex server and watch it on my XBOX One with a few clicks. This allows me to add another use and get rid of another device.
PS3 had this functionality but chose to abandon it.

Well now I know. I guess I have used the DLNA thingy on my PS3. Though typically with more frustration than it was worth. Often I'd have songs that either wouldn't play or that I couldn't find despite having them in my 'shared' file. Or my media server would stop working randomly. So I just stopped using my PS3 in that way. I'm sure someone more tech savvy could make it work better but it just made me want to pour a bucket of water over the entire thing. Then walk away. My PS3 isn't the only electronic device that doesn't work for me like appearantly it should. My DirectTV box is supposed to be able to be a media server too. Again despite my best efforts it only recognizes about a third of my music collection. Which makes me want to submerge the stupid thing in a bucket of water. So instead when I want to listen to my music I just use my iPod and run it through my stereo directly. Gotta love technology. Each year it causes me increased headaches as each new fangled device is supposed to be making my life easier.

Since the beginning, we have focused on delivering great games and entertainment experiences for you. Your feedback matters to us and it shapes the products and services we build. Your feedback showed up in the Xbox One console we launched back in November and in the monthly updates we’ve delivered since. Today, we’re excited to share more ways your feedback is impacting the products we build. First, beginning on June 9th, in all markets where Xbox One is sold, we will offer Xbox One starting at $399*. This is a new console option that does not include Kinect. For $399, our new Xbox One offering will continue to deliver access to the best blockbuster games like “Titanfall,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” and the upcoming “Watch Dogs,” “Destiny” and "Sunset Overdrive." You will also be able to access popular entertainment apps, such as Twitch, YouTube, and Netflix, as well as watch live TV and use OneGuide. Finally, you will continue to be able to use many of the unique features of Xbox One including the ability to get game invites while you watch TV, switch between games and entertainment apps, enjoy Twitch broadcasts, and upload your favorite gaming moments. Next, we’re bringing more value to Xbox Live Gold members and offering all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners access to entertainment apps whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership. In early June, here is what you can expect from the new generation of Xbox Live: Free games with Games with Gold**. Since Games with Gold launched on Xbox 360 a year ago, over 12 million people have enjoyed great free games, resulting in nearly 200 million hours of free fun playing Games with Gold titles. We’ve been learning from your feedback and have focused on making improvements each month to the selection of titles. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Games with Gold for Xbox 360 and as a thank you for helping shape this program, members will receive an additional free Xbox 360 game in June. The Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 in June are “Dark Souls,” “Charlie Murder” and a bonus game of “Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.” We’re pleased to bring Games with Gold to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One in June. Members will have subscription-based access to free games ranging from top hits to breaking indie stars. The program will launch on Xbox One with “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault.” A single Gold membership will get you access to the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Exclusive Discounts. Deals with Gold will also launch for Xbox One in June, delivering discounts for great games each month, with significant savings for Xbox Live Gold members. The first titles offered in June will include “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” and a few other surprises. In the coming months, we will offer significant savings of up to 50 – 75 percent off certain titles. This program will continue to be available for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360. And new on Xbox One, we will launch a virtual VIP room exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members where we will feature free games, monthly deals, and other great benefits. Popular entertainment apps will be available for all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners. Xbox 360 has been a leader in delivering entertainment experiences for years, with over 170 global entertainment apps and experiences available today. We’re constantly adding new partners and experiences to the growing catalog on Xbox One. Coming in June, anyone with an Xbox will be able to access popular entertainment experiences – whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership. This includes great gaming apps like Machinima, Twitch and Upload, popular video services like Netflix, Univision Deportes, GoPro, Red Bull TV and HBO GO, sports experiences like the NFL app for Xbox One, MLB.TV, NBA Game Time, NHL Game Center and more.*** Microsoft experiences including Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive and OneGuide will also be available to all Xbox customers.**** You can find a full list of apps and features that will be available below. We’ve heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences and you also want options in your hardware selection. To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console. Some of the most popular voice commands include “Xbox On,” “Xbox Broadcast” and “Xbox Record That.” We will continue to offer a premium Xbox One with Kinect bundle to deliver voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Just Dance 2014,” “Project Spark” and more. If you buy Xbox One for $399 and later decide you want to have all the experiences Kinect enables, we will also offer a standalone sensor for Xbox One later this fall. We’ll share more details about the standalone Kinect for Xbox One in the coming months. web page Well it is something I said they had to do. Kudos to them for making the change. I predict Xbox One to retake the USA by a slim margin and possibly the UK. The rest of the world will most likely be Sony. Netflix and other entertainment apps don't require Gold, Games with Gold to be more like PS+. Competition is good for us consumers.

Any updates from next gen users on the board? With so few games being exclusive one way or the other, I'm really starting to lean PS4 despite the fact it lacks the potential of Kinect and I'm a current xbox guy.

I've been extremely happy with my PS4 with one exception... The L2 button (aim on Battlefield 4) on my controller is broken. No idea why. I really haven't played it very much. It might just be my son tossing the controller around when I'm at work, though. Other than that, I've been shocked at how fast the load speeds are and I really like the vid capture/share qualities.

I use the DS4 on my PS3. I love the thing. Might just be your controller. I play a lot of games, my L2 is fine

If I get a system, it'll be PS4. And the main reason is Sony's exclusives. Naughty Dog is the best. But you've gotta like those types of games, and that type of system. I'd say it's a step down (shooting system) from the new Tomb Raider, but the rest of the games are ridiculously well made. Great stories (which, now that I'm a little older, I really watch) and they look great too. Very well done, I just think the mechanics of shooting and action in Tomb Raider was a bit better

I'm 41, wife 37, daughter 9, none of us uses a system anymore except for Netflix and to play DVD's. We have an XBox 360 250GB and one that is 4GB. I think we are just going to trade it all in for cash and go get a device that will stream Netflix and play DVD's. Any suggestions? I was thinking some kind of Roku device but I don't think any of them play DVD's.

Many DVD players are "smart", now. They have the more popular apps installed (Hulu, Netflix, HBOGo, etc.).
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

But be careful. I bought a SONY Blu-Ray maybe three years ago with streaming capabilities. It sucked. Constantly would cut out and start buffering or whatever. I ended up buying my parents an upgraded ROKU and stealing their older ROKU device. There was no difference, my father just wanted the new one.
So be careful with dvd players and streaming. All are not equal. You want to stream, I say, pay 80 dollars or so and get an Apple TV or a Roku. That's what they're meant to do. You want a DVD Player, get a separate one of those (or keep the cheaper of the two xbox's)
Of course, for you, the DVD Player streams fine. So may be it's just the type. Just make sure you do research before buying a DVD player for streaming

I have a Roku as well (a refurbished XS). That thing is on the fritz, or something. Has to reboot quite a bit, but I think mine is an outlier. I've been thinking about picking one up whenever I find one on sale.

I also have Chromecast. My Uncle had it and didn't need it, so I took it. It works fairly well as long as I'm close to the wireless router. Mostly cause my g/f wanted hte ease of streaming to the TV off the computer without hooking up our HDMI to Thunderbolt wire. She hates that wire (one of those folks who doesn't look at the ground enough when they walk and so they trip on things).
Me, I mostly stream off my WiiU now. I love that gamepad for streaming, gives you a little discription of your tv show on it and shows you how far you're into the thing, right on the screen. It's like a fancy remote control that dies after a couple hours...... My PS3 is great for streaming too.
I think my Roku works fine, just my remote broke for it. I've been meaning to buy one of those for awhile
