My parent beat the tar out of me.....and just look how I ended up.
It just made me more rebellious.
Everyone, despite where they are from or how they were raised, has to take responsibility for their actions at some point.
Tyler, I'm not sure if you deserved all of what you got (How many of us actually did though?) but each kid has to be handled differently. I speak as an uncle of 7 neices and nephews who treat all of them with the same rules, but the punishment and the way it is handed out is done differently with each child because each child/person is different.
They all know the rules, and they all know that there is a certian point I am done talking and the next step will be punishment of some kind. With a few, having them stand in a corner was effective enough. With a few, making them sit on the couch until their parents came and got them worked. Yes I've had to spank all of them, but afterwords, I always make sure they understood why I did it and that I still love them.
They have learned that there is responsiblilty/rewards and consequenses for their actions and that certian types of behavior are expected and acceptable around their uncle.
Some people just want to cookie cutter children or how they are raised. It doesn't work that way.
