Unless someone traded in front of them. Staying where they were at was the only way to guarantee getting Kalil.

If I remember correctly, there were other teams bidding for that third pick. The Browns wanted to make sure they got their guy, and that meant moving up one spot. It had nothing to do with the Vikings drafting Richardson, everyone knew that wouldn't happen. It was to ensure nobody else traded ahead of the Browns and took Richardson before they picked.
I have heard that rationale [sic] before and frankly it makes no sense. Let's say you are right. Let's say that TB wanted to move up and to get TRich. I'll give you that, even though it isn't really a fact. But, I will give you that.
Why wouldn't we have traded w/TB? We could have picked up additional picks in a very, very strong draft and drafted D. Martin later, who looks to be the better NFL back.
TB would have taken our offer because they would have had to pay a bit less. No way was Minni drafting TRich. We could have filled many needs by trading down.
The real strength of that draft other than the top QBs, was how deep it was from the middle of the first round through the fourth round.
Btw---------I was calling all of it BEFORE the draft, as some of the other board's members will probably attest.
Richardson was rated much higher than Martin entering the draft, according to all of the scouts and guys who puts hours upon hours into doing the homework. Can we also please give these guys more than one year to prove who will end up being the better pick?
