All the recent moves have solidified our position as AFC favorite to reach the Super Bowl and destroy the 49ers.

The kicker job is concerning...but whats the point of our 90 having 5 kickers ya know?
We signed Cundiff on a whim last time. the guys we had this tc were awful...good riddance. Carpenter isn't horrible, and Cundiff is decent too...Guys that have been in the league we got film on...itll be fine.
as for the UDFA guys? who cares...
If a guy came in and didn't make a team theres a number of reasons...weren't a fit, weren't a good player, number crunch at a position...its whatever it is.
There is a good chance that the guys we brought in are a good fit, and if youre a good fit...then you'll be set. Paul Hazel looked good in his short stint with us, and were a solid 3-4 system...maybe he wasn't a fit for the Gus Bradley 4-3.
Kellen Davis didn't fit, maybe MarQueis does...maybe his potential is something we want...Barnidge can be our blocking TE, the other guys can just catch balls.

I guess this means we'll be signing Cundiff. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/02/bills-expected-to-sign-dan-carpenter/Bills expected to sign Dan Carpenter Posted by Darin Gantt on September 2, 2013, 7:08 PM EDT Getty Images At his current pace, kicker Dan Carpenter will work for every team in the NFL. By October. The veteran kicker, who has been cut by the Dolphins, Cardinals and Jets in a little over two weeks, is about to have another new address. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Carpenter is expected to sign with the Bills. That’s a quick turnaround for the Bills also, after they released veteran Rian Lindell so they could keep sixth-round pick Dustin Hopkins.

Dang, I wanted Carpenter TBO

I haven't really followed him ..... but why has he been cut by 3 teams in such a short time? I say bring in Kickalicious and see how he develops over the course of the year. Actually I'm somewhat serious. There are times when you just have to take the big chance.

While I think kicker is the easiest position to learn quickly, I would have some apprehension about bringing in a guy who has played football for three months on such short notice.

Signing Kickalicious would amuse me. As long as he doesn't go Garo Yepremian on us I'd like the addition of a euro kicker.

I think that's basically correct.
MarQueis is a big kid who's very athletic. Look what San Diego did with a basketball player.. maybe this kid could be that type of TE.. don't know..

The main concern I have is that, outside of a couple of units, if/when injuries hit us our depth is inexperienced and unproven. We opted to cut backend depth with some experience for non-drafted players with essentially none. Here's to the healthiest season possible for our starters. Maybe I just thought this team has a legit chance to be good and should win a decent amount of games. Purging some of this vet depth shows me at least (although these guys weren't world beaters) that maybe the FO doesn't think that highly of their own chances, because if they did, they would know weathering the storm of injuries is essential to a deep, meaningful season. Signing all these cast-offs doesn't give me that vibe.
I am not trying to be confrontational. I promise. But just how many good players did we cut? Seriously? Who do you think were the good players we released?
I thought they were all pretty bad. I would have maybe kept Gurley and Fort, but I ain't going to lose sleep over those guys.

I suppose we disagree, but do seem to find some agreement. To me, the season hasn't started, so everything we do is an extension of the draft....building towards this season.
I think you and I agree............who cares what you call it? You either improve the team or you don't.

This IS NOT how a front office builds a team "via the draft". Clearly this is an indication that our front offices' "eye for talent" is suspect as they cut the players they (Banner and Lombardi) signed in favor of someone elses camp cuts.
Actually its exactly how you build through the draft:
eo...obviously we disagree on this point.
Can you show me examples of other teams building via the draft, who scour the wavier wire in search of talent to build their team?
Quote:
1. The majority of these signings if not ALL are UDFA players (considered 8th rounds n further in the draft).
UDFA, yes...but never heard of waiver wire talent called "8th rounders"....spin it any way you want...maybe some are 10th or 12th rounders?
Quote:
2. Making 6 moves (two due to IR status of Lewis n Hardesty) of tweaking the Bottom of our Barrel is not this BIG OVER HAUL you are portraying here.
eo...I never claimed such a thing...BIG OVER HAUL ...never used those words. This is just you attempting to spin something into something, for some reason...kind of like you JUST MAKING CRAP UP.
Quote:
Our scouts have been evaluating young talent so that when these cuts were made we jumped on a few that we felt were Upgrades. Again Upgrade at the Back End of our Depth Charts!
Not sure how much scouting can be done until the cuts are made.
This idea that Banner and Lombardi are simply "Upgrade at the Back End of our Depth Charts"...EO, you do realize that one or both of the RBs they picked up will be playing on Sunday?...backing up TR.
If I'm the Dolphins DC, I wait until Rainey or Johnson are in the game...then I blitz Weeden to see if our UDFA RBs know how to pickup a blitz.
This idea that the front office is simply upgrading the bottom of the depth chart...is bullcrap. If Alex Mack goes down...our UDFA backup center is in the game. There is a very good possibility that one or both of our UDFA TEs will be playing on Sunday, too.
It is a little scary when the Browns are forced to rely on inexperienced UDFAs playing this Sunday...a situation our inexperienced front office created.
Quote:
And yes this is Chicken little stuff. Oh no we cut our 4th TE n signed another. We signed a young OG/C that the Packers liked...probably to cut Shaw??? Who has been playing the backup Center??? Oh NO!
There is nothing willie nillie about pointing out the shortcomings of this Browns front office...you believe they are the greatest thing since "wheaties"...I do not...so we disagree. ...disagreement can be a good thing...
I find it interesting that the Browns signed a C/G...remember when you poopooed my idea of drafting a C/G to add depth at both positions? We can only hope that our UDFA C/G
I wonder if you understand why Banner and Lombardi are forced to scrape the waiver wire, in an effort to add depth to the Browns roster?
...first, our front office must not trust their own judgement or they simply misjudged the players they signed contracts with at RB & TE...opting to go the UDFA route...it's their call but they have to take responsibility for signing the players they cut, in favor of UDFAs.
...the main reason the Browns are digging deep into the waiver wire...their 2013 draft didn't address enough of the team needs...and that was by choice.

The Browns have reached an agreement on a contract with veteran kicker Billy Cundiff, Fox Sports and ESPN reported today. He’s set to handle the kicking duties for the Browns Sunday when they host the Miami Dolphins in the regular-season opener. The Browns held a tryout with Cundiff and Giorgio Tavecchio today at their training facility in Berea, and Cundiff prevailed. Veteran Dan Carpenter was scheduled to participate in the audition, but he latter dropped out of the workout to sign with the Buffalo Bills after their kicker, Dustin Hopkins, suffered a groin injury Monday during practice. The Browns went through training camp and the preseason with veteran Shayne Graham and undrafted rookie Brandon Bogotay serving as their kickers, but the organization wasn’t satisfied with either one. Last week, the team terminated the contract of Graham and waived/injured Bogotay with a groin injury. Bogotay officially moved to the Browns’ injured reserve Sunday after passing through waivers unclaimed. Cundiff, 33, made the Pro Bowl in 2010. He has played regular-season games for five NFL teams, including the Browns in 2009, when Pro Bowler Dawson was sidelined with a strained calf. He made an 18-yard field goal to lift the Browns over the Buffalo Bills 6-3 on Oct. 11, 2009. Cundiff has made 139-of-184 field goals (75.5 percent) and 217-of-218 extra-point kicks during his career. He made all three of his field goals and all four of his extra points in the preseason before the New York Jets cut him and signed Carpenter on Aug. 27. The Jets cut Carpenter, 27, who made the Pro Bowl in 2009, in favor of Nick Folk three days later. link

Billy Cundiff crushes the ball on kickoffs. In 2011 he set the record for most touchbacks in a season. That is actually a huge adavantage to have.

From above link...
Pinkston, who sustained a high ankle sprain on Aug. 15 during a preseason game against Detroit, is eligible to return to practice as early as Oct. 20, and eligible to return to the active roster as early as Nov. 3 vs. Baltimore.

I figured that they would designate one of the 2 Guards for IR with the ability to return. I think that's best for Pinkston, as it will let him fully heal, and he won't even be able to push himself before he's ready.

Misplaced cursor and I counted it, oops. Yep he is a TE, but I'd like to see him at FB in goal line and short yardage situations, wouldn't you?

I know we currently have Oby listed as FB but the Bengals just cut John Connor who I think to be a very good FB and was rather surprised to see him released. With all the injuries to our RB corp, why not make Oby the direct backup to Richardson, sign Connor, and release one of the recent UDFA we just signed?
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
