I'm hoping that Cundiff has one of his best years which would make everyone forget about this PK mess

Let's hope so, mac, as then we could put this behind us. On the other hand, should he have a "tough" season, things could get nasty...

The front office doesn't need to say anything about San Fran's kicker....

I doubt they care what the media writes about our kicking situation....

Bt more importantly Dawson is the kicker for the 49ers... So why comment on him now? There's really no benefit for the FO to say anything. As others have said Dawson sold his house a few years ago in cleveland and I believe a good part of him wanted to go to a winner for a chance at a Super Bowl or more limelight to possibly make the HOF... And why not? Cleveland hasn't won squat in years and I doubt they are going to the SB this year so why shouldn't he want out.... Even if he didnt want out and the FO decided to dump him it's done and over with. I'm sure every time our kicker scratches his nose wrong we'll get posters on here saying "that's not how Phil would scratch his nose!!"

If you hate the new FO like mac, Pit, and others..........you are going to put all the blame on the new FO for not signing Dawson.

If you hate the previous regime, you could make the argument that H and H did not get the guy signed long term for two straight years and that Phil was fed up.

If you are rational, you will say that the two sides [Phil on one side and two SEPARATE regimes on the other] failed to get a long-term deal done in three years.

I have said several times it was both front offices. But you have selective memory to support some deep seated need to label me as a hater.

Just another lie you have turned into truth in your own mind.

I'll never forget the game in Baltimore that we tied on a Dawson FG. Me and my brother were in the 3rd row, 40 yard line behind the visitors bench. After the kick bounced off the "Dawson bar" back onto the field the stadium emptied. It felt like we were the only two there. The Ravens left the field and Phil just stood there on the field.

Eventually it was ruled a FG and we went on to win the game. One of my favorite games ever!

It should be officially coined that....."The Dawson Cross Bar"

Although that does make it sound like it could be mistaken an alternative nightclub.

But eo, Pat Kirwan is not a 'bozo'. He was a scout, coach, and in the FO. He has also written a book on the game; hardly a 'bozo'. If you have ever listened to him on Sirius, I think you might have a different opinion of him...

Except- it didn't actually bounce off the crossbar... it bounced off the curved part of the center stanchion:

1. which is what made it such a crazy play-
2. and made the kick valid for points.

If it had actually hit the crossbar, it would have been (rightly) called no good.

You are correct. My mistake.

I was just wanting to try out that Cross Bar joke. Fail.

Dawson clearly says, the Browns wanted to move in a different direction...meaning Dawson was not in the front office's future plans. Banner simply let Dawson's contract expire, forcing Dawson to find another team to sign with.

Dawson Agent to Browns: "If you want to keep Phil in Cleveland you are going to have to pay him top dollar. Add 20% from last years Franchise tag, a 5 million signing bonus and 100% guaranteed money."

Browns to Dawson's Agent: "We are deciding to go in another direction."

Obviously no one knows what happened. But I do really think Dawson wanted to go to a contender. Yes he probably would of stayed but it was going to cost the Browns a lot of money to out weigh other options where Phil could have won a ring. I don't think the Browns wanted to pay that cost.

that reminded me of the scene from Airheads. Substituing Dawson & Banner into the movie:

Dawson: l want a PRS Guitar with the dragon inlay. - Nice.

Dawson: Number 13: naked pictures of Bea Arthur.

Banner - Excuse me?

Dawson: The chick from The Golden Girls.

Banner: Look, l know who she is. l'm just a football president. How am l supposed to find all this stuff?

2 teams with being their best players, browns, raiders. bottom of league

its obvious, if your best players are kickers and returners that your not gonna win too many games

its like, in baseball, to have no below average pitching but a great catcher. Or like a team to have a great point guard and nobody to dish it to...Irving

Correct, it hit the small curved bar that fastens the crossbar and uprights to the base. But it should be called the dawson bar, just like the Peskie pole.

I have a friend deep in the browns front office, and today he filled me in on what was actually going on behind the scenes with the negotiations with phil dawson.

the reason a deal couldnt get done was that phil dawson would only sign in cleveland if his wife were able to again do the national anthem. Joe Banner reviewed the performance by Phil's wife, and decided to part ways with Dawson.

I think it should be pretty safe to assume a healthy dose of sarcasm, wit, and "tongue-in-cheek" in that post.

Nothing on here surprises me, and although I tend to take everything at face value, I thought this would perfectly fit my agenda...

That's funny. I never see you criticizing the previous FO, but you sure do criticize the new FO a lot.

Heck, you have been crying about the freaking OL.

Really?

In case you missed it, the past regime is gone. And I have stated more than once that you can't blame this FO for losing Dawson without blaming the other one. Sorry you didn't read those posts.

You are the one who keeps trying to trash the former FO in some defense of what this FO has done or is doing. Last year I trashed Shurmer as our HC. Now who would be responsible for Shurmer being here? The Big Show.

Obviously from your comments, you weren't lurking around here enough to know what all was posted last year. Those who were know I was barking hard against Shurmer and his schemes, or lack there of.

Each regime is judged on what they do. Not on people who have already failed. As far as the OL goes? I question our run blocking. Even you commented and tab even agrees we are not a strong run blocking team. That's been my only question about our OL and it seems many have that same question. I'm far from alone in that question.

But why point the finger at me here? You are at the very least at least as guilty of what you are accusing here.

You trash Weeden at every turn. Try for some reason to continue to trash a past regime that obviously did poorly and failed. Why? They are no longer here for a reason. Don't you think you just keep repeating the obvious there? They are of no consequence to our team now. They're gone.

I gave praise to the FA signings. I liked especially the signings of Kruger and Bess.

I don't like that they put all of their eggs in one basket in the front seven and ignored CB. Did that last regime do the same in ignoring the second CB position? Yes, and they were fired by the people who did the exact same thing. So what's your point exactly?

Maybe you really need to let the past regime go. I have. I try not to compare a regime that failed here to one that I hope succeeds. We all hope the current regime succeeds because we are Browns fans. We are not so jaded as to wish failure for our team in some deep seated need to "be right" as you often put it, about anything.

Even the fact that you seem to use that train of thought baffles me. I didn't give the past regime a free pass. I won't give this one a free pass either. I try to actually learn from what I perceive to be the past regimes failures and expect more from a regime I expect to succeed. It's called learning from previous mistakes.

Do you understand how silly it sounds to ask what a failed regime would have done differently or better to support an argument of success for the current regime?

I'm not trying to pick a fight here. I'm actually trying to get you to think about these things just a bit. I do expect better from this regime than the past one, because the past one failed. If you can't understand that line of thinking, I really don't know what more can be said.

They are all Bozos He came into it probably not one but has slowly MORPHED into one. Again he stated they discussed at length...the article is about it. But didn't tell us about the discussion. BOZO job.

mac...the fact that 3 days before the season opener it was uncertain who would be our kicker was not by design. But by two injuries happening in our last two games. Game #3 Bogotay pulled his groin n we saw Graham come in. Then right before Game #4 Graham calls in sick n we learn he now has a bad back.

We had a week - to get a kicker. So it took 3 days to decide on who. Not many teams have two guys competing for Kicker probably THE MOST NONE CONTACT position on the field...and get both INJURED within a week. . Happens.

JMHO

Right, there are a few who make it sound like we ditched Dawson and then made no plans at all to replace him until the last week before the opener. Then they go on and complain about how stupid it was to do that.

Just not paying attention or loving to complain. I don't know which.
