Yeah if you just drive around and listen to the radio, they'll tell you sometimes which stocks are doing good and etc. Also, before a lot of the missions (assassination missions especially from what I can recall) - the guy would hint/tell you which stocks are going to explode. Buy a bunch, play the mission - get your cash!
Getting cash is hard in GTA V if youre relying solely on the mission rewards.
