Their #1 is probably a top 15 pick.

I would want more than just a #1 for Gordon.
Tough break for ATL.

Give us a #1 for Gordon Atlanta
On one hand, I don't want to give up Gordon.. on the other, what would it be like to go into the Draft with 3 firsts + 8 other pics.. Some very nice picks.
Damn, we could load up VERY well and QUICKLY. But, won't make a lick of difference if there isn't a QB available that bowls us over..

Man, that sucks for him, and for Atlanta,
Why would Atlanta make any trades to improve the team when they are already 4 games out of 1st. They also have already lost to New Orleans, so it's more like being 5 games out. They are more likely to be sellers at this point than buyers.

With 3 #1 picks we could get a QB, WR, and another impact player ... just in the first round (assuming we draft the "correct" guys)

If, somehow, we can't get the QB we want, then we "just" make the rest of the team super strong and use Hoyer or Weeden next year,
I think that we'll take a QB in the 1st round of next year's draft though.

+1 for JJones +1 for them being sellers, but not yet
Suzy Kolber, man she's awesome, said that only 4 teams made the playoffs after being 1-4 since 1996 (I think that was the year). So it's very unlikely, but it's possible and it did happen recently. Anyone want to guess the team and QB that did it (no looking on Google)?

What if we just drafted all the talent we can next year to add to our team ... roll with Hoyer/Weeden/Stop gap free agent next year ... and then draft Jameis Winston!!
I wish ... but we're going to draft someone this year .. our FO has their eye on someone I guarantee it

Yup. It could be just like that one year where we got a QB and a LT in the first with a CB in the 2nd. Or the year we got the QB & the RB in the first. Or the year we took two WR's in the 2nd.
Man, we loaded up quickly with those drafts!!

I so want to say the Giants because that feels very Eli to me.
The Chargers (Rivers) recently came back from a bad start, but I think they had a couple wins when they went on a tear.
doh. so obvious once I looked at the standings from the last couple of seasons.

Wasn't it the Jets in like 2001 or 2002?

More recent.
They finished with an 8-8 record.

Times up....2011 Denver Broncos with Tebow.
I just peeked at the Falcons schedule, they'll still be in contention for the playoffs.
BYE Oct 20 - Tampa Bay Oct 27 - @Arizona Nov 3 - @Carolina Nov 10 - Seattle Nov 17 - @Tampa Bay Nov 21 - New Orleans Dec 1 - @Buffalo Dec 8 - @Green Bay Dec 15- Washington Dec 23 - @San Francisco Dec 29 - Carolina
They could still end up being 8-8 pretty easily. And probably 9-7.

Why would we trade away a 22 year old guy with 2 years of NFL experience, who is well on his way to proving he's a legit #1 WR in hopes that we could draft a different 22 year old guy who may or may not be a legit #1 WR?
His off field issues would have to be pretty serious to take that risk...

Well geez Purp,, you do have to pick right ya know. If you pick crap, your team is crap. If Gordon goes off the rails, what do you have then? If If If If If..

I think it's a little more basic than that.
Let's say this FO is well above average at drafting talent just for the sake of argument........
What is the odds of them hitting on two or three first rounders and a second rounder?
The odds of hitting a home run type draft are astronomical. I know that fans wish to say stocking up on draft picks is the way to go, but at some point if you do have a player with a very high ceiling, the risk/reward factor goes down.
Gordon isn't TRich. Gordon has actually shown his potential here. You are right, IF he messes up again, we end up with nothing. However, if we risk letting him go, the same also may be true.
JMHO
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

There isn't anything wrong with what your saying Pit. Somehow, because I said we'd have a chance to stock up quickly, it got turned into I want to see Gordon gone and frankly, nothing could be further from the truth. I'd like to see the young man stay put for the next 7 or so years.

I guess I should have put j/c up there. It's more of a common theme I've seen than towards you so much.
I just find the odds astronomical that it seems so many feel this FO will hit on so many picks. As I stated above, they could do a very GOOD job and even at that. most all FO's never hit a home run in the draft.
More of a general comment. Sorry about that.

okay, so let's make this simple. we'll take Julio Jones who is missing this season for sure, but will likely come back healthy and be able to contribute in a long career. they get Josh Gordon who might miss a season in the future that could end his NFL career.
what side does everyone want here?

Why do you want to get rid of Gordon when he's 29?
Seriously, you want to hear something neat? Ozzie Newsome is currently the all-time leading receiver for the Browns and he has just shy of 8,000 yards... We have not one, but two, guys on the team who could/should pass that if they stay healthy and stay in Cleveland... Josh Gordon already has 1100 yards and he's 22 freaking years old.... Jordan Cameron has 700 yards and he's only 25 years old..

Look at their roster and drafts. They're very big on character since the Vick fiasco.

Agreed. I think fans are overvaluing Gordon's worth. I don't think the Falcons would even consider trading for him.

I totally agree... ppl place to much emphasis on a 1st rd pick. You want a 1st rd wr in hopes that he's legit??? Your moving backwards

If they were 4-1 phone calls would likely be made. At 1-4, it's makes zero sense for them to trade for Gordon. Roddy White is banged up. Steven Jackson injured. Julio Jones out for year. It doesn't make any sense. Season is over. They'll retool in the draft next year and reboot with a healthy roster. Character issues have nothing to do with their willingness to make this hypothetical trade. Circumstance does.

I will reiterate that character issues matter here. Very much so.
Look at the Falcons organization post-Vick. Blank was embarrassed by the Vick incident, and has made character a focal point of his team.
I doubt they even inquired about Gordon.

I still don't understand the logic of even considering a trade for Gordon. It would have to be character issues we aren't privy to beyond the drug stuff. I wouldn't trade him straight up for Julio Jones...much less only a 1st rounder...anything below that is absurd.

I agree wholeheartedly, given Atlanta's current record. Makes no sense to even pick-up the phone let alone bother to find out the correct number to dial.
Having said that, from the Browns standpoint, the risk of trading a game changing on-field talent for an unproven talent in the draft with the notion said pick may fail, tilts the scales in favor of keeping him. Trading him is akin to keeping two in the bush vs one in the hand. IMO, he's not going anywhere - at this point in time, it's all bluster.
Haslem has glad-handed with Jerry Jones, inquire on how he turned Dez Bryant into a non-problem child.

You say you agree wholeheartedly, and then argue against what I said in your first sentence.
It has nothing to do with record.
Atlanta would be very unlikely to make a deal for Gordon if they were 5-0. Refer to my above posts for further explanation.
And forget the Falcons...if I'm a GM, I sink a first rounder into a sure thing and a sure thing only.
Josh Gordon is not a sure thing.
If I'm the Browns, I don't sell him for anything less than a first.
If I'm any other team, I don't offer more than a conditional second.

In my heart, I want to believe that Gordon will be just fine. I believe that he is an incredible talent, and I want that talent on the Cleveland Browns.
I know that there is a huge risk involved with him, but I just don't see us receiving value in a trade. If someone wanted to give up a 1st round pick, plus others, I would have to consider it. However, even then I don't know.
Man, I hate that he has put the team in this type of position.

...And now the Falcons are concerned Roddy White may be lost for the season. Man, they can't get a break this year.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
