IMO

It might be too early to judge if the move was good or not. Maybe he will heal nicely and be very productive next year. We just dont know.

Peyton Manning sat out a whole year and bounced back nicely. Obviously the two are different, but I'm willing to let it play out. Either way though, its just a guy from the practice squad.

You cant be afraid to take a risk to land a potential playmaker.

If they're going to IR the guy, and he's not taking a spot that was already being used on the roster (they signed him when they put Hoyer on IR, right?) Then I have no issue with this at all. Looks like they're getting someone with Josh Gordon's size and speed who they can retain the rights to the next two years without committing any resources. He'll just be an inactive until he can be stashed. What's the difference? I say good move.

I don't know if we will/will have to keep him since he was injured before coming to Cleveland.

We put him on the non-football list, so maybe we don't have to do anything except ride out the injury, pay him for that 1st week before we put him on that list, and then release him back to the Packers. That's just a pure guess on my part.

I agree. I don't know why people are all in a tussy.

My understanding is, when you sign someone from another teams practice squad, the player has to be on the 53 man roster for a minimum of 3 weeks. I think I read that on here, as well.

I'm no expert on things of this nature though.

That's correct. However, because he was injured prior to the Browns claiming him, I don't know if they are stuck with paying him for the rest of the year because of his injury, or if that responsibility falls back on the team that had his rights when he was injured?

From the article someone posted on here.......since the Browns put him on the NFI list (non football injury list......I'm assuming since he wasn't injured playing or practicing with the Browns), the Browns only HAVE to pay him 1 game check, even though he counts against the 53 man roster for a total of 3 weeks. (2 more weeks to go.)

What do we do with him AFTER the three weeks is up?

Is he effectively "stashed" on the NFI list, does he become a FA, can we put him back on our PS?

If we just let him go, that would be a waste, if we can keep him protected till next camp he could be a useful addition.

We need to upgrade Little.

I do not know the answers to those questions. There are some sharp guys on here when it comes to stuff like that......hopefully they'll be able to answer.

That's not my understanding......but maybe I'm wrong.

He was on the packers practice squad. (who keeps a guy with a torn acl on the practice squad?) We signed him on a Saturday, without a physical because dems da rules, so, sign him, give him a physical on monday, find out he's got a torn acl.......out for the year.

That's the way I understood it. If I'm wrong, my bad.

We must keep him on the 53 man roster for 2 more weeks. Here is the way I see it:

We picked him up at the time knowing the Packers were on the schedule. We can pick his brain PLUS we can keep him for ourselves ... the injury sucks, but we like him enough to own his rights through the season and into next year (which we do own his rights).

There is only one negative to this situation: he counts against the 53 for two more weeks ... but our FO liked him enough to get info about the Packers AND to keep him for ourselves that it was worth the 2 weeks.

The cost of signing a practice squad guy and keeping him on the 53 for a few weeks really is peanuts. We are talking about a guy taking up a spot that might otherwise be occupied by someone we've never heard of like Keavon Milton or Brandon Magee.

I have no idea what kind of player Johnson is. Perhaps a combination of Charles Rogers and Calvin Johnson?

I don't see the big deal here. other than his injury, we sign guys like this all of the time right before we play his former team. then we release them soon after. just pay attention to the scrubs we sign all year and then check the calendar to see when we play that team. it happens more than you think.

49ers waived rookie WR/TE Chris Harper, he was a 4th round pick last draft. We have 4 TEs, 11 OL and 6 OLB on the roster, but just 4 WR. I hope we put a claim on this guy and release one of Milton, Gilkey, Cousins (!) or E.Martin/Hazel

Packers activated TE Stoneburner from their PS to make up for their lack of receiving options. They probably figured a Fauria-like TE is the way to go

He's been cut by two of the best teams in the NFL. I'd pass.

You might want to re-read that. Do you realize how crazy that sounds?

I could see if the Jaguars had dumped him ...... but having the best teams in the NFL not having a spot for you is hardly a slam.

Well, the 49ers tried to convert him to TE and they already had 4 on the roster, so they really liked him, but mid-season experiments the coaching just has no time for. I think they're trying to sneak him onto the PS now and develop him there. The fact that two of the better teams let him go is actually a sign that he has some hope left, as their rosters are stronger than the AVG ones, no?

He's a WR though. Not that fast, more a possession receiver in the Little/Sanu mold. Former QB too. We have much less talented players on our roster. A plethora of unworthy RBs. If someone told me before the season, I'd probably said max only one of the 4 RBs we currently have belong on a NFL roster, but not all 4 on the same team (yikes, I know it was because of injuries mainly, but still, that's a horrible depth chart to look at), same with our OL depth. Lauvao is back, Pinky will be too. It makes no sense to carry 11 OL, but only 4 WRs and 4 CBs, make a decision, cut one or two of those OL and add depth at those thin positions by getting some developmental talent off someone's PS.

The Broncos activated T.King off their PS btw. They probably realized he'd be a target with all these WR injuries in GB and around the league.

I would put a claim on Chris Harper right now, watched him play at Kansas St and really wanted the Browns to draft him.

Getting cut by two of the best teams in the NFL ain't a bad thing considering most good to great teams don't have much room for rookies anyway.

Maybe as a UDFA, but when you're drafted in the 4th round... I think it shows more that things just aren't working out.

That makes sense to me. Two of the best teams in the NFL might be so deep in talent that they are shedding a guy who is simply the third or fourth best position player in the entire league. But in the case of the Jags (or us unfortunately) if we cut a player...well... I think I'd rather shop the clearance sales at Nieman Marcus then The Dollar Store.

Well, we had to keep this guy on the roster for 3 weeks before he could go on IR, (IIRC) so this will be the 3 weeks as of Saturday. I don't know if they go by weeks, or Sundays/games. This coming Saturday, the 2nd, will make 21 days he's been on our roster.

He is on IR now. He had to be on the active roster three games.
