I think he was just being hyperbolic and wasn't suggesting that as a serious thing. However the top 6 teams in the SEC would be better than the winners of American, MWC, or MAC. But the top 4 teams in the B1G, ACC, and PAC could do that too.

Okay, then maybe they should prove it by winning the SEC.

Or a simple non-conference game could prove it. Like what they have been doing for the past few years.

Kentucky beat highly ranked Kent State last year 41-14. Kentucky was 2-10 last year. 0 SEC wins.

Just throwing that out there.

A few comments:

--Ohio State will not refuse to go to the Rose Bowl. Too much money involved. Furthermore, going undefeated and winning a BCS bowl game is nothing to be ashamed of. I think society puts too much emphasis on the season being a failure if you don't win the National Championship or Super Bowl. It's taken some of the fun and substance from the game. I am proud of how Ohio State has performed the last two years. It's a great accomplishment.

--I posted this in Pure Football, but Mettenberger stands in there like Brady. Very tall. Very erect. Doesn't move too much. Stiff legged. Gutsy. However, not many guys get the time Brady gets. I said it earlier and I will say it again, but he is a knee injury waiting to happen. Has the NFL arm. Risky pick, though.

--I don't think McCarron has the tools for the NFL. I could be wrong about that, but I don't think he will be able to throw in tight windows. He can get away w/that deficiency in college because his guys are so open. He just doesn't have the arm to drive the ball into tight coverage or across the field. Similar to BQ.

--Carr reminds me of his brother in a few ways. Dazzling arm and very professional looking. Doesn't read coverages [Weeden disease] at all and will take a ton of sacks and/or throw picks in the NFL.

--Mariota didn't impress me all that much against Stanford. Seemed confused most of the night. Being confused by a collegiate defense worries me. He might still be the guy, but that performance had to hurt his stock.

--I still say Bridgewater is the most prepared and NFL ready of all these guys. His accuracy is very good. Calm in the pocket. Very good arm. Can throw into tight windows. Puts good touch on the ball frequently. He just doesn't seem to have that dazzling personality, though. Still my number one guy.

--Manzell makes plays. He has more "it" than all the rest combined. He has been throwing some picks, though. I also think he will take huge sacks in the NFL because he will sometimes scramble into trouble. He must learn to stand in there a bit more. But, I love his play making ability. He's very hard to judge.

--I love Evans and Beckam Jr., the WRs for A&M and LSU. I think Beckam might be the more complete WR, even if he isn't quite as physically gifted as Evans. Beckam runs very, very crisp routes and comes out of his breaks quickly w/sharp cuts. Catches the ball w/his hands in traffic. Kid is going to be special. Both of them will be. Evans will probably go before Beckam, but I really like what the latter brings to the table.

I'm posting here because I just heard that Illinois has lost 19 straight B 1 G games. Illinois has always played Ohio State tough and not respected them, OSU has 21+ straight wins, these streaks can't continue. I think Ohio State and Illinois play in a couple weeks, I look for Illinois to get the win.
I've watched Ohio State games for lots of years, only because I live in this town, and every time Ohio State is over confident they lose in a stupid way. Illinois is the kind of game for Ohio State to lose, so it will probably happen.
Just watch the first part of the Ohio State vs Northwestern game, and then look at how Northwestern played in their next 4 games, and it is not that preposterous.
That is, of course, unless one of those streaks ends before they play.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Illinois will not even sniff a victory against this Ohio State team. Less talented teams can pull upsets when they find a way to win the LOS battle. That will not happen in this game.

The 2 games left that I would say could possibly have mind fields for Ohio State are at Michigan and the Big Ten title game vs Michigan State.

Michigan does not have a team that should give OSU much problem but having a chance to salvage their season by ruining OSU season the Buckeyes will get their best shot. If OSU takes it to them early the Buckeyes will win easily. Let them hang around and believe and the 4th quarter could get hairy at the Big House.

Michigan States defense is no joke. Their offense is not as good as OSU's. But, if they are able to take away the run game and then pressure the QB. It could be a low scoring nail biter. If OSU can score 28 to 35 points on their defense then State will have no shot. They have to keep this game at a 20-17 game or lower to win.

I agree with almost all of this.

I haven't seen enough of Carr to talk about his ability to read coverages, but he's got the best arm of the guys I've seen in the draft this year. What initially bothers me the most about him is the way he dresses down his teammates on the field.

I don't have the same impression of Bridgewater's accuracy that you do. He was unbelievable in the Florida game last year, but the couple games I've watched him in this year he's struggled to put the ball where it needs to be for the play to be as successful as it should. I'm not saying incompletions, but reaching down to catch the screen, breaking stride to catch the slant, those things that don't show up in the stat sheet have been surprisingly lacking.

I like Beckham Jr, too... He really came to play last night, but I don't like him as much as you seem to. I see him as a guy who will get you 50-70 yards and 4-5 first downs per week. That's a good thing in the NFL, but I don't see him as a special player in an NFL context.

All the rest I think are good points and I agree with them.

Sparty fans have got to be peeved. 2 loss UCLA, A&M, and SoCar along with 2 non-BCS teams in NoIll and Fresno ahead of them? All while they have had one of the nations very top defenses and they no longer are being idiots about the starting QB situation.

and, who has OkieState beaten that makes them better? I mean, I understand that'd be an argument both ways, but they're 4 spots up on them.

think that's a bit strange.

Thanks for the post. I like your debates. They are justifiable.

--I haven't seen a ton of Carr, either. Limited data base. I could be wrong.

--I saw one game where Bridgewater struggled w/accuracy. I can see where you got that from. I do think he is the most accurate guy, but I have no real proof. I could very well be wrong.

--I know Beckham Jr. doesn't look as sensational as some other guys, but I just love how he runs routes and his quickness out of cuts and then snags it w/his hands. I could very well be overvaluing him, though. WRs are not my area of expertise.

Thanks for the input. That's how we learn. Respectful dialogue that doesn't necessarily have to agree w/each other.

And Michigan State's loss to the Notre Dame was bogus. They were called for several lame pass interference calls, including one that was actually picked because the guy cut in front of the ND WR. It was a travesty of bad officiating.

I agree with fresno state, osu, and ucla, but not the rest. You look at their schedule michigan state doesn't have a top 25 win. I believe northern illinois would be a top 3 or 4 big 10 team. They already beat 2 teams from the conference. Jordan Lynch is a fantastic college player. They gave florida state a battle last year... South Carolina beat missouri and central florida on the road. 2 great wins that michigan state can't put on their resume.

Michigan State could run the table and get to the rose bowl. That's all you could ask at this point.

Losing early vs losing late is the best way to get back into good form, unless you're a big ten team.

If you ask me, Wisconsin and Michigan could be top 15 teams.

I understand you can't just give them that win against ASU, but I really think they are being sold short.

hey, I agree. I'd probably have them 4th or 5th (behind OSU, MichSt, Wisc and probably ahead of Minnesota).

but, even you putting them top3 puts them behind 2nd place Michigan State. BCS rankings have them ahead.

Note: I forgot that SoCar played UCF and beat them. That is a really good win. I can see the argument better with that win along with Mizzou.

ASU is no joke. 7-2 with some good wins. They can put up a lot of points and have a very athletic young QB. Two losses @ Stanford (42-28) and @ ND (23-20 IIRC?) A loss to them should not be seen as really weak. They could be preseason top 20 next year.

Especially when you probably should have won. When you factor in where Wisconsin was plus a 15 yard penalty for not getting off the ball, they would have had an extra point kick to win the game.

I don't disagree about ASU though, they are a solid team.

So.. I didn't get to see any of the LSU-Alabama game I've seen the final score, and the stat lines, but that doesn't tell me about the play of the QB's.

Which brings me to this:

How did Mettenberger look? I see he only had one TD, but he also obviously had no running game, etc... for the parts that he can control, how did he look?

How about McCarron? He had 3TDs, but he also had to have had all day back there with the way his run game was firing on all cylinders... yet, even with that, he didn't put up much yardage and his yards per completion stat was lower than Mettenberger's.

What did y'all's eyes tell you??

Like candyman said, a lot of what Mettenberger did was really terrific, but then some stuff left you scratching your head. He made some *outstanding* throws with good accuracy and velocity, he stood in the pocket well and had a good clock of when to get rid of the ball and when he had an extra half-tick for his man to get open, but he threw some real head-scratchers as well. Alabama dropped three INTs as the game went on. I think his confidence started to go and he started pressing.

He's clearly got the skills to be an NFL QB. A lot of it is going to come down to psychology IMO.

Someone has mentioned it already, but without an elite OL he's going to get hit a lot, but Mettenburger has all the tools outside of the wheels to get out of the pocket. He can clearly handle an NFL offense, as right now he's working with Cam Cameron...

I think he will be around late in the first. He's a big kid though, which is good. I don't like that he has character issues. QB is the one spot where I kinda want a guy who's clean in that dept...

McCarron looked good. He has pretty good feet in the pocket. It's just so hard to tell because he has everything around him.

We all joked that people who supported Colt basically made excuses adding up to him needing a pro bowler at every single position around him. Well that's basically what McCarron has right now. The offensive line at Alabama is always good. He's deep at RB. Good WR's. Good coaching. Good defense. When is it really ever stacked up against that guy? I don't think he's a round one QB.

LSU had their chances in the game, but some really bad plays in the first half snowballed into bad defense in the second.

I don't care what FSU does, Alabama is still the best team in the country

For all the ragging people do on Ohio State, I don't think FSU's schedule and the ACC are all that they are cracked up to be. I don't think Clemson is a top 15 after what I saw versus FSU in their own house, and Miami proved to be a paper lion.

FSU is a terrific team though.

Urban Meyer: Ohio State is No. 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Urban Meyer has Ohio State right where he's had them all season in the coaches' poll -- at No. 2 -- but at least one player thinks the coach is selling the Buckeyes short.

[+] EnlargeEvan Spencer
Trevor Ruszkowksi/USA TODAY Sports
Ohio State receiver Evan Spencer had some choice words for Alabama and Florida State on Monday. "I'm a little biased," Spencer said. "I think we'd wipe the field with both of them."
"I'm a little biased," wide receiver Evan Spencer told reporters Monday. "I think we'd wipe the field with both of them."

"Them" would be unbeaten Alabama and Florida State, who are 1-2 in this week's BCS standings.

The Buckeyes, who have won 21 games in a row, needed some help from Oregon to move up a spot in the BCS for the first time this season, sliding to No. 3 after the Ducks lost at Stanford on Thursday.

Meyer, however, already had his team ranked ahead of both Oregon and FSU, so the top two in the country in his opinion hasn't changed heading into Saturday's game against Illinois, which has lost 19 consecutive Big Ten games.

"I have Ohio State in the top five," Meyer said during his weekly news conference Monday. "I believe we have Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State.

"I had us No. 2 all year, and I just think we're playing like one of the top teams in the country right now."

Left tackle Jack Mewhort, one of the team's captains, doesn't want to get caught up in the hype and instead is taking things one game at a time.

"I don't want to talk about [the BCS]," Mewhort said. "Right now, we're just focused on beating Illinois. If we ever come to that hurdle, we'll think about that then.

"[Alabama is] a great football team, obviously; No. 1 in the nation, so they're doing something right. If we ever get that shot, I think we'll be ready for it."

TOLEDO
David Fluellen (SR) - RB 6-0/215
152 1067 10TDs

Bernard Reedy (SR) - WR 5-9/175 (maybe as a PR/KR)
-52 587 4TDs

Alonzo Russell (SO) - WR 6-4/190
-44 515 5TDs

Maybe as undrafted free agents this or next year. I doubt Russell comes out after what happenned to Eric Page.

TOL!
