I know it isn't a big deal, but it's still bull crap.
The downside of having the most talent week in-week out I guess. Dantonio's deserving, he's done a lot with much less then Urb's got. It's not like they gave it to Ferentz
Yep... Coach K has been the coach at Duke for 34 years and has only won ACC coach of the year 5 times and none since 2000.. despite winning the ACC 3 or 4 times since then, winning the ACC tournament about 6 or 7 times since then, 3 final 4s, 2 national championships...

That's how it goes, it definitely played into Tito winning manager of the year in baseball. He did as much as Farrell for Boston but with a hell of a lot less. I think they only had a few less wins. It's not a postseason award so the WS doesn't mean anything.
I don't really care that much. You could vote him Big Ten COY every year, because he's the best coach in the conference.
I thought had Wisky not gotten screwed in that game earlier in the year, and maybe if they don't blow that game last week, Gary Anderson would have been a great pick.

Boise State football coach Chris Petersen will be named Washington’s head coach on Friday, ESPN’s Joe Schad reports.
I'll bet Boise getting left out in the cold on the conference realignment + UWash being close enough to Idaho were bigtime factors here.
Funny though, I feel like UWash got to upgrade for losing their HC to USC.

This.
Coach of the Year is typically someone who gets their team to overachieve. Before the season started people were talking about OSU running the table. Going undefeated is great and all, but it was not as big of a surprise this year.

I brought it up somewhere in this topic. I don't believe OSU was ever down more than 8 to Purdue, but they were down 10 to Northwestern.

I agree w/all of you guys, but again I just want to bring up just how stinking hard it is to win 24 straight games. Teams get complacent. They overlook others. Turnovers can lose you games. You might just have a bad day. Another team might be sky high. You might be coming off of a tough game. You might have a huge game the following week. It might be a sandwich game, etc. etc.
I don't care how much talent you have and how poor the other teams are, winning 24 straight is incredible.

Makes OSU's Fiesta Bowl Championship game from 2003 even more incredible. Miami was rolling in on a 34 game winning streak. That team was incredible

So I looked it up, 8 points was the biggest deficit vs Purdue, looks like the 10 vs nebraska was the largest deficit

Anyone else nervous? I'm predicting a low scoring game. I think we will have 3 turnovers. OSUs d-line will play the best game of the year. OSU - 17 Sparty - 14

I like us with at least 4 touchdowns. I'm thinking 31-21.
The last/first two Big Ten Championships have been shootouts. Wisconsin won 42-39, and again last year 70-31
MSU better hope that isn't the case, because the Buckeyes on this fast track would be way too much.

Playing in Lucas Oil favors OSU because of the turf and no wind. So Braxton should feel comfortable. This game is gonna come down to how our back 7 plays. If they shut down Spartys weak passing offense 1 on 1 I feel really good about us stopping the run.
OSUs offense will always create big plays. It's just how they're built. Sparty needs to create some big plays on defense. I'm glad we're a run dominant team in a game like this. We can protect the ball and make high % plays off of play action.

Actually, thats how I felt last week going into The Big House. I had a feeling that crazy stuff was going to happen and that we'd lose. I was half right. Now, I'm hoping the punch in the mouth OSU got last week woke them up and I'm looking for a comfortable margin of victory tonight - someting like 38-24, or maybe even a 3-4 score route. The key will be if OSU's defense can get off the field on 3rd downs. I like that its a neutral site, but I hate that its a night game.

I agree with you. I had this sick feeling that Michigan was going to ruin the Buckeyes' perfect season.
They came damn close. I hope it's a wake up call for OSU.

He had a coupe of pretty awful plays when I tuned in. He had a near INT where he threw the ball right into the defender's gut, and was sacked when he couldn't get away from the pressure.
That's just a couple of plays though.

Wow, I am listening to Griese, (I think it's Griese anyway) and I have to wonder what planet he's living on?
Bortles will, in his opinion, be the 1st QB taken ,,,, but he should come back to college, so he can go to a better team next year? Huh? If he's the top QB taken, he's still almost certainly going to a bad team. He said that a rookie's money isn't in his 1st 3 year contract, but in his 2nd deal. What??? Rookies sign a 4 year standard contract in the NFL.
He lost me with his crap about how an undefeated OSU team who beats a top 10 MSU still shouldn't beat out Auburn ........ and he got no better with some of the stuff he said about the NFL.
Do they drug test announcers and commentators?

Brian Griese is a moron. Is there a better "bottom team" to be the QB for than the Texans? They have talent on offense and defense.
Griese was trying too hard to be a contrarian and it made him look like a fool.

My 1st thought was "And this guy played in the NFL????"
I hope that you're right about him playing the contrarian, because the alternative is that he's a total and complete idiot. lol

I hate to admit it, but without guys like that in the media sports wouldn't be as popular among casual fans.
Networks like ESPN are paid to sell narratives to casual fans. Crazy and outrageous opinions draw ratings. They're a necessary evil.

I suppose that's true.
Man, looks like #6 is about to go down. #17 Oklahoma just took a 3 point lead with 19 seconds left after Oklahoma State took the lead with less than 2 minutes left.
Amazing end to the game no matter what happens with 14 seconds left.

I was just thinking ....... could you imagine the gnashing of teeth that would take place if the Buckeyes win .... but Florida State loses? (and maybe Missouri knocks off Auburn too)
The lamentations and bitter tears of commentators around the country would be hilarious.

with the OkieState loss and the NIU loss, the Fiesta Bowl just completely opened up to possibilities.
the winner of Baylor/Texas gets the BigXII champ spot, but the other is a complete wild card now. I was rooting to see Petty v. Lynch, but I wonder if there's a way to get Petty v. Boyd now?

What if Duke and Michighan State BOTH win. I know what would happen, some dolt would say Auburn and Alabama need to play again, and we'd probably see Auburn vs some Oregon team or Stanford or whomever.
But what SHOULD Happen? If Mich St and Duke Both win, Then, really aren't there 7 or 8 teams that should be able to claim to be #1, or at least # 2. How about Baylor, Duke, Michigan ST, Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Oregon St, and maybe even Missouri,
You can't convince ME, that Auburns loss to Lsu, would be any more (less objectionable) than a Buckeye loss to MSU, or that Alabama isn't still the best team in the Counrty. And If florida St loses to Duke, then Duke just beat the last undefeated team, or one of them, and then Duke can claim they deserve to play for it all.
Either way, OHIO STATE has Earned the Right to go to a bowl game and get boat raced by 45 with their suspect defense.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
