Unless Campbell has some undisclosed injury, why is making a change even controversial? One QB is a game-tested vet who has had some success, and would be an adequate placeholder until Hoyer returns. The other is guy with a million dollar arm and not much else. Make the switch. The Weeden experiment should be over.

I don't get it either. What did Campbell do that was so bad that we'd stick with Weeden who is clearly not the answer.

Mind you, I'm not saying we lost that game only because of Weeden. That simply wouldn't be true. This loss was a team effort. Lots of blame to go around.

But the QB needs to be able to produce.. Weeds doesn't produce.

Unless there is something else going on that none of us are privy to, then it's time for the switch.

Until Weeden develops some touch, he won't improve, imo. You can't throw as hard as you can to a guy twenty feet away.

Touch, accuracy, not absolutely melting down after his first read isn't open. Look at his feet on that gif I posted, it looks like he is about to wet himself.

Like it seriously looks like he head is pointing in the direction of his reads, but his mind is already made up that he is dumping it off. Like he's not even really looking, he's just going through the motions because he is so confused.

Being a fossil and having been watching professional football for over fifty years I have been witness to many players playing the quarterback position.

Seen plenty of second and third stringers come off the bench when the lead guy went down. Seen emergency quarterbacks who were runners like Tom Matte fill in at quarterback.

Seen Tim Tebow who I thought right from the begining could not throw a football come into the NFL and have some success.

However, I never seen a quarterback play at the NFL level as poorly as Brandon Weeden. The first flip was the single worst play I have ever seen given the score, the clock, the down, and distance. For Weeden the following week to attempt the same "pass" speaks volumes. Then his comments regarding the play speaks to his state of mind.

In addition, as you watch the players go back to the huddle not one guy is looking at Weeden. On the side line it looks like he couldn't get the time of day from a teammate.

I can not see how the coaching staff can say "he gives us the best chance to win".

Jason Campbell does not have a "A" game. But he certainly gives the Browns a better chance to win.

The Browns management has to make a change in order to keep the locker room intact. They can not continue to roll Weeden out there and expect the players to respond in the manner that they wish them too.

This isn't new. I saw this during the VERY FIRST game. The opener against the Dolphins. This guy has never been a leader on this football team and no one respects him.

Bonefish, I'm an oldtimer also, but "expect" (?), rather I'd demand it. If anyone won't perform their very best on a particular day (sickness, injury aside), I'd move their butt to the "pine" pronto. I realize times are achangin', but work ethic remains the same. There are lots of teammates out there giving their very best and I include Weeden in that group (he's simply not skillful), and if you're not going to contribute, then we'll find someone who will. Gordon...are you listening?

The play that killed me yesterday happened with about 9:12 in the second quarter. Play action with Whitaker, Weeden has a perfect pocket and immediately checks down to Whitaker with out even looking down field.

Horrible.

Jason Campbell cannot be this bad. It is mathematically impossible to have two QBs that are that bad on the same team.

That's a classic line.

It's coming, it might not be this week, but it is coming. . .

Chudzinski thinking about benching Ginger Cringer

Quote:

BEREA, Ohio - Cleveland Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said today he will talk to his staff this afternoon and determine whether or not bench Brandon Weeden, who dropped to 0-4 as a starter this season with a poor performance in Sunday's 31-13 loss at Green Bay.

"At all positions we're considering (change),'' Chudzinski said in a noon meeting with reporters. "We do that every week.''

He acknowledged that last Monday he said he was sticking with Weeden and that the players hadn't lost confidence in the quarterback. He didn't try to hide the fact that he's waffling now.

"We'll play whoever gives us the best chance to win,'' Chudzinski said.

He stressed, "It's not all Brandon. That's just the thing you look at. Brandon needs to play better (everyone does).''

If Weeden is benched, Jason Campbell will start Sunday's game at 7-0 Kansas City. Brian Hoyer, the Browns' other quarterback entering the season, suffered a knee injury after starting against Buffalo on Oct. 3 and is out for the season.

On Sunday, Weeden was unable to overcome his abysmal start to the game. The Browns fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and 17-3 at halftime. They fell to 3-4 on the season.

"I'm not discouraged,'' said Weeden after the game. "The last thing we need to do is get discouraged this early.''

Weeden began the game with a costly three-and-out and then his sixth interception of the season to help spot the Packers their 14-0 edge. He fell to 5-14 in his career as an NFL starter.

He had a 1.7 rating at the end of the first quarter on 2-for-11 passing and the pick, and a 16.4 mark at the end of the half on a 5-for-14 performance for 48 yards. By the time the carnage was over, Weeden had completed 17-of-42 attempts (40 percent) for 149 yards with one touchdown -- a beautiful 2-yard strike to Jordan Cameron in a tight window in the end zone -- and the one pick for a 48.6 rating.

Weeden had his full compliment of skill players at his disposal and couldn't get the job done. What's more, he was working against a defense missing three of its four starting linebackers including Pro Bowler Clay Matthews.

In Weeden's defense, several of his passes were dropped, including an early one by Davone Bess and a later one by Josh Gordon, but he struggled to get the ball to his playmakers. Gordon caught only two passes for for 21 yards -- and both of those came in the fourth quarter. Bess caught two of his six targets for 11 yards.

"Obviously it's very disappointing,'' said Weeden after the game. "We want to play well and that's what we're paid to do. We have no shortage of confidence. We're just not doing enough at the right time to get over the hump. But we're battling. We're fighting hard to the very end.''

Weeden stumbled out of the gate. He overthrew Greg Little twice on sideline passes on his opening drive, including once when Little was wide open on third and 9 to force a punt. Chudzinski attributed it to the conditions, but Weeden refused to use it as an excuse.

"The ball was slippery, but Aaron was throwing the ball just fine in it,'' he said.

The first step in the process is acknowledging there is a problem.

Good. I'm done.

I don't put 100% of the blame on him yesterday. They play calling was bad, there were some key drops and the D played uninspired. But maybe all of that can be tied to the black hole in the #3 jersey.

What's even more pathetic is that we can't even trade the bum now. We'd be selling at the absolute floor. We're better trying to move him in the off-season, as I can't envision a team who would want to bring him in right now given the fact he wouldn't have an even decent grasp of the playbook until there's about a month left in the season.

He couldn't get the grasp of a high school playbook if you gave him four years to learn it.

It's time to say openly that he's available to the highest bidder and then take whatever the highest bid is. If there is nobody that makes an offer, cut him. I simply don't want him on the team.

He said the right things, but he didn't do them. Rodgers wasn't exactly "throwing" the ball around in those conditions. Most of his passes were dump downs and quick pitches. That's why he is one of the best and imho THE best QB right now. He's incredibly smart, plays team friendly situational football and he's the best at evading pressure while still keeping his eyes downfield.

Anyway, that kind of weather is not made for throwing it deep and that magnified Weeden's shortcomings even more.

My guess is they (the consensus) "sacrifice" Weeden one more time vs the Chiefs and then switch to Campbell with a bye week in between. I'm saying "sacrifice" because they're past the way of "hoping" for him to show something, so we should be at the point of playing the guys that give is the best chance to win, after all we're still a 3-4 team. The switch should be made after this game, but I guess the PR timing for their own cause is better after next week's game as they figure they'd lose with both guys regardless.

I would start MarQueis Gray at this point and it wouldn't be to implement the gimmicky Wildcat plays that we saw against Green Bay.

Instead of creating a new post, I'll just piggy back ... ESPN is reporting this

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

If weeden is the QB I will not watch, sorry cant handle it anymore....bone head dissions, thrwos behind the reciever, throws 10 Ft above thier heads, ya had enough of Browns 2013 QB experiment.

At this point why not bring in a Tebow or a Young.....honestly what can it hurt.

Release Weeden before the team goes south on Chud.

Yesterday VS the Packers if we had a QB 3/4 of Rogers we could have beaten them, our offence put our defence on the field way to much, give the packers 3-5 extra chances to score and there going to 2 or 3 times, us going 3 & out just kills our Defence.

Yes we need a QB in the draft....Knce again we have to hit, cant miss again......

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Why? How bad are things in Minnesota that they'd stick uith Freeman longer than they absolutely NEED to??

I doubt the team will go "south" on Chud. I have a feeling the team knows what's up: Weeden sucks, and Campbell apparently isn't the answer.

Can't blame that on the coach.

I can see, and actually think I have seen, the team lose respect for Weeden........but, who can blame them?

Weeden is 32nd in completion percentage even though he's 32nd in YPA. How is that even possible? This is a no-brainer...you have to go to Campbell.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. If you're bad at completing passes, then you have fewer pass attempts gain yardage. So when you look at yards per attempt (YPA), you end up with a bunch of zero's bringing down your average. Unless your completions are really long, then YPA and completion % should be tied together.

I think Weeden was just trying to get rid of the ball without taking a grounding penalty. He was trying to avoid getting hit.

There were plenty of terrible throws and decisions that he made yesterday, I don't think this was one of them.

Ugh...

3-5 looks way uglier knowing that its almost a formality now. Why not throw something at KC that either dont have film on, or arent ready to study. They havent lost yet...we gotta make it tough on them somehow
