I don't really like the idea of forfeiting a pick...

Suspension would do fine, and if you think that can have no effect...ask the Saints...yes Denver has been fine but Jack Del Rio is a heck of a coach.

Not trying to pick a fight, just curious as to why you don't like the idea of our enemy having to forfeit a pick? To be honest, they are sucking with Tomlin active, no reason to think they'd get worse (if that is what you're hoping/suggesting) without him there.

I want the worse to happen to them, and I think a forfeited pick is satisfying to that need. Nevertheless, a 100k fine is NOTHING, not NEARLY enough punishment.

Back to potential draft pick loss:

In Spygate, the Pats lost a 1st round pick, and Belichick was fined $500,000. The team was fined $250K, and the team was to forfeit either a 1st round pick if they made the playoffs, or a 2nd and a 3rd if they did not.

They went 16-0 ...... so they made the playoffs ........

Anyway, just to bring perspective ......

In this case, Tomlin was fined $100K, and the team was not fined. I suspect that the worst the team will lose is a 5th, and most like they will lose a 6th or 7th. I just don't see a 2nd rounder being taken away for this. If both the coach and team were implicated, and/or maybe if the Ravens would have lost as a result, then maybe, but this seems like spur of the moment stupidity by the head coach, as opposed to being a planned action.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin Fined $100,000 for Interfering with Play Versus Baltimore
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach MIKE TOMLIN has been fined $100,000 for interfering with a play in progress during last Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. In addition, because the conduct affected a play on the field, a modification or forfeiture of draft choices will be considered after the final order of the 2014 draft has been determined.
The discipline was issued by NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations RAY ANDERSON.
With 6:26 remaining in the third quarter, Baltimore’s JACOBY JONES returned a kickoff 73 yards to the Pittsburgh 27. During the return, Tomlin – in violation of Rule 13, Section 1, Article 4 of the NFL Rule Book – was in the restricted white border that surrounds the playing field and stepped foot onto the playing field during the play.
Tomlin’s positioning in the white border during play should have resulted in a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

so, we have the Steelers 3rd round pick (I think that's correct) if they downgrade that pick, we're the ones that get hurt. Would they do that? and if they do, can we go back and get something else, like another pick, cash, player? something? Anything? from the Steelers?

What if they take that pick away from the Steelers all together, are we out totally?

Think about the slippery slope that creates going forward for draft day trades?

What if the Redskins had done something that the NFL felt warranted having their first rounder taken away, what would the Rams get in return for the RGIII Trade?

Just wondering

Once a pick has been traded, it no longer belongs to the team trading the pick away. Such trades have to be recorded with the Commissioner's office anyway, so they would know who owns what. There is no way that the Commissioner's office wold penalize a team by taking away a pick they traded to another team. That would be absolutely senseless, and even they aren't that stupid.

If the league decided to take away the Steelers 3rd round pick, then we would be upgraded to their second round pick.

Something similar happened recently with a trade that involved a conditional pick. The conditional pick ended up being in a round where the team no longer had a pick, so it got bumped up a round.

Yeah, when you really look at it, the similarities between this and Spygate start to disappear. I would love for the Steelers to lose a draft pick, but I'm not sure it'll happen because the Ravens ended up losing the game anyway.

If it does happen, and the NFL really drops the hammer (their 2nd rounder), I won't feel bad. Steelers have been the beneficiaries of questionable calls for quite a while, so this just helps to balance that out.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Steelers *WILL* lose a late round pick:

Yes, $100,000 will come out of the paycheck of Steelers coach Mike Tomlin for his Thanksgiving sideline side step. But that’s not the end of the punishment.

While Peter King of TheMMQB.com said during Friday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN that the Steelers will lose a draft pick only if the Ravens miss the playoffs due to the failure of Jacoby Jones to score a touchdown on the play with which Tomlin interfered, King has since advised PFT that he was incorrect.

A late-round draft pick will indeed be forfeited by the Steelers, regardless of whether the Ravens miss the playoffs. In the unlikely event that the tiebreaking process for the Ravens goes deep enough to consider net points and the Ravens miss the playoffs because the drive in question ended in a field goal and not a touchdown, the penalty will be enhanced.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports first reported that the Steelers will lose a late-round pick. As the league has announced, the specific penalty will be determined once the full draft order is finalized, which will happen after the postseason concludes — and after all compensatory picks are distributed.

Would there be anything more perfect that both the Ravens missing the playoffs because of this, and the Steelers losing abetter, or additional draft pick(s)?

It'll never happen ..... because nothing that helps the Browns happens.
