web page Ex-Dolphin Davone Bess Arrested At Fort Lauderdale Airport January 17, 2014 8:42 AM FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess was arrested for assaulting an officer/firefighter Friday morning. Bess, 28, was taken into custody by police at Fort Lauderdale International Airport around 6:19 a.m. Friday. Bess, now with the Cleveland Browns, has drawn extra scrutiny in recent days after posting a picture on his Twitter account with what could be marijuana, a drink of some kind, a cigar, and all with the television on the documentary the Cocaine Cowboys, according to CBSSports.com. The NFL is aware of the picture, but NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to say what the league may do about it, according to CBSSports.com. A source told Cleveland Plain Dealer beat writer Mary Kay Cabot that Bess was dealing with a serious family issue back home in Oakland. Last December, Bess posted a separate picture that showed him lighting up something on his desk. Bess missed the last two games of the season last year after leaving the team for personal reasons. He had a league-high 14 drops last season and had more than 28 yards receiving in just three of 14 games played in 2013, according to CBSSports.com. Bess began his career as a Miami Dolphin before being traded to the Browns before the current season.

Wonder if we'll see what happened during the altercation or if this is one of those "Carlos Hyde beat a woman." type of ordeals.

or we get another WR...throw Little and/or Gordon in the slot for the miss match we can also utilize Cameron in the slot for the miss match. Lots of things - although I think Cooper made the best of his opportunity last season - We see this kind of slowish good route runner good hands guy emerge all around the NFL...why not here.
But the use of the slot can be a weapon for the offense...meaningless if we don't have a QB.
As for Bess if this doesn't end it (his relationship with the Browns) then its got to be some CBA thing restricting us from releasing him.
JMHO...this is veteran leadership??? Got to cut him unless we cannot legally.

This... the day after getting talked to by the FO about the image he posted on Twitter?
He's definitely trying to get them to void his contract, IMO. He wants OUT.

Bess, 28, was taken into custody by police at Fort Lauderdale International Airport around 6:19 a.m. Friday. According to the arrest report, Bess was walking down the concourse acting “irrationally, dancing, singing with his pants repeatedly falling down.” The arrest report said Bess was asked by law enforcement if he was alright and gave no response. BSO said Bess then took a cup of coffee not belonging to him and then squeezed the cup until the liquid poured over the officers uniform. The arresting officer said Bess then took a fighting stance and the officer hit the football player with his ASP in the leg, but it had no effect. The officer said Bess then took off his shirt and again took up a fighting stance and refused repeated orders to get on the ground. Once back-up units arrived, Bess surrendered and was taken into custody. The arrest report said Bess appeared to “be under the influence of an unknown narcotic due to his irrational behavior.” “He appeared to be looking through me when I was talking to him,” the arresting officer wrote.” Bess, now with the Cleveland Browns, has drawn extra scrutiny in recent days after posting a picture on his Twitter account with what could be marijuana, a drink of some kind, a cigar, and all with the television on the documentary the Cocaine Cowboys, according to CBSSports.com. The NFL is aware of the picture, but NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to say what the league may do about it, according to CBSSports.com. Someone said we should wait till he reaches rock bottom, I think he has.

I can't believe this is all a ploy to get cut... he's killing his chances to get a shot with another team... the guy seems to have real issues.

this isn't a sign that he wants out of Cleveland - if its wanting out, its of the entire NFL cause that is where this action is leading to.
Again we don't know what personal problems have been going on but facts are facts there is no excuse for the actions he has taken the last few weeks rock bottom? When we release him that will be rock bottom and we might be waiting for some action by the NFL office so that we won't have to pay him the rest of his contract? Or possibly we are genuinely concerned about him as an individual. The later being the least believable... jmho

There is not a chance in hell he's not on narcotics. They would have stated that he was visibly drunk if it was weed and alcohol. Talk about getting paid and losing your sanity, WTF.

So this is all some kind of master plan to get cut? Get arrested at an airport by taking too many weird drugs and acting insane?
You cannot be serious.
The dude is unstable and needs help. He's not capable of anything rational right now, let alone concocting some master scheme to get cut. Even if he were rational enough (ie: idiotic enough) to go to these extremes to move on, he's forfeiting a salary he absolutely won't get as a free agent, if he gets a job at all.

No way for the FO to know he was going to full on lose his mind and become a drug user. How can you put that on them. By all accounts he was a self made, model NFL player coming into the season.

At this point, has he not brought enough negative publicity to the team for them to release him? (I know, the team does some of that itself). Seriously, at this point I'm thinking "conduct detrimental" would just about sum it up. Cut ties and move on.

I expect to see some excuse like he is bi-polar or something of that nature.
Once he sobers up or comes down wherever he is .
maybe we take the high road ( no pun intended) and try to get him the help he needs, that might make us look a little better to some.

A little draft position was all we really gave up for him and we did get a year out of him (albeit, little production). Now, he'll be lucky to stay out of a prison cell.

That and we gave up $6M in guaranteed money after we signed him to an extension the minute the trade was completed.

Okay, if you wanted to go there. *shrug* They tossed $6 mil his way. He'll need some of it to stay out of prison.
As for the rest of his guaranteed money (he's received only a portion - it's divvied up over the length of the contract), he may never see it. He got $1.5 mil of it and it's likely to be all that he sees.

What makes anyone think we did not offer ANY help? OK. So give him help. To be honest I was hoping there would be no more posting or news on him, Other than buh-bye, after the second slap in the face "photo op". How many times does this guy have to disrespect his opportunities before they are taken away permanently? My guess he threw a temper tantrum when help was suggested and said I just have "family issues".

It is a damn shame he is still getting sympathy. What hurts is he will get chance after chance because he has athletic talent. And he knows it. Regular Joe Schmoe would have been banned from all society after the first "family problems" photo. Nobody EVER notices nobodies needing help. Why does this guy deserve compassion? Bess is making his way to becoming nobody. Maybe that is what he wants? No pressure. I say let him. Tired of the self important egomaniacs looking a gift horse in the mouth. And then all they have to do is pull the "Oh I am so sorry" act. Then right back to slap everyone in the face again. The only way to deal with that type is to cut them out of your life.
Get him gone! And let some other gullible fools deal with him. And on top of that. Get a bunch of cash back. Assuming he has not blown every dime on "family and personal issues" already. Let him live like a real junkie. Assuming it is not JUST cannabis. Then he will know real problems. Let him be just a number.
I hope he rots in rehab or wherever. Just not in Cleveland. You can't help someone that does not want it. Pathetic!
Einstein could not even fathom the mathematical improbabilities of the Browns woes.

That guarantee was spread over several years. It wasn't a one year thing.
If he is convicted of a drug offense, most likely we can void his contract, and future guarantees, as well as sue to recoup any money already paid as part of a future bonus.

This is what I'm thinking. Actually, what I'm hoping. A lot of people's legit post here swayed my hatred/disgust with Bess into, at least, giving him another year to show he can do what he's done in the past. But now, I just want him off this team and away from our young talent and get his negative publicity and etc far away as' well. We got enough circus mumbo jumbo already. He's no player, no role model and damn sure seems to be taking a nose dive into the world of crap.

It's still toxic and just because no pic has surfaced, doesn't mean they're not hanging out or whatever. If he's turning into a dead beat outside the locker room, there is nothing to support him not being a dead beat within the locker room.
Toxic, radioactive or pick your own adjective - get him off the team and hope he gets some therapy or something and maybe he can get resigned by us or another team, not sure how any of that stuff works or would work out? Someone had made the comment previously when the other pic was posted that "maybe he's doing it on purpose to get off the team" that made me think a little but I think he's doing it because his life is spiraling outta control. Don't know about you, but I have a low profile job with a low profile company, and I wouldn't post pics like that. He did, what does that say about what's going through his mind? What other drugs aside pot is in his system I wonder?
His pal Chud isn't here to hold his hand, baby him and stick up for him anymore. I'm thinking the front office actually "needs" to boot him if he is indeed found guilty. To me, it's a matter of creditability at that point. We need people to propel forward with, not drag or fall completely behind.
