I just watched this video on Bridgewater.

Here are my concerns;

1. He has a 3/4 throwing motion. sometimes he will throw Stafford Side Arm
2. his footwork is terribly inconsistent (there are throws he makes where he looks like a pitcher)
3. he throws off center every time
4. He has a wonky short arm release at the end of his throwing motion
5. He doesn't complete his throwing motion most of the time on his mid to long range throws and tends to stand taller on these throws. (leads to inaccurate throws in the NFL mostly underthrown balls)
6. His short 5-10 yard slant throws are over exaggerated and his feet are usually spread further apart and his body sinks further into the ground. He looks like a SS make a throw to first base.
7. him running all over the field and his body slinging throwing motions reminds me so much of Colt McCoy with a bigger arm.

8. He has a ton of time in the pocket. I didn't see many quality throws in that 2-3 second range

Once you start messing with footwork/throwing motion it will take someone a year to get comfortable with the new motion. While he is learning his new style... his confidence will take a beating.

So they had reviews of Kiper's draft for each team. Kiper had us taking Bortles at 4 and Carlos Hyde at 22.

Both of these are insane. I can't see us going back to running back in first round after the T.Rich debaucle and Hyde IMO is not a first round prospect.

Bortles at 4 makes a certain degree of sense until you consider that he still as Bridgewater on the Board. Teddy lasts til pick 8 and the Vikes grab him.

I think this is a pretty out there scenario but it makes me wonder if there's something to Kiper (who is pretty dang good) downgrading Teddy as the third QB taken.

The only draft day scenarios I want to see played out is the one where the Cleveland Browns actually take good to excellent players with thier picks, all 10 of them.

I thought Kevin Costner already got us the #1 pick..?

Wow. When I first saw Bortles at 4, I was thinking it wasn't too whacked. Until you mention that Teddy was still on the board.

I do like the thought of Hyde running the ball for us, but I would think the 3rd is the place to get him.

I think the hairspray finally seeped into Kiper's skull.

and this is why I rarely post on this site... I donate, I read, I comment, and I get arrogant belittling comments because I see something differently.

I post facts and stats... about Ward and you come at me like I'm still wrong. Somehow you are "entitled" and your option is the gospel. I"m just impressed you changed your tune on him slightly to say... he's ok/average from he's garbage.

this is a site for fans to post their thoughts and opinions. there are not any experts posting. I'm just learning from what the coaches teach my son.

Bridgewater is terribly inconsistent with his body, arm control, and throwing motion. He will not have the same windows in the NFL that he had in college and he cannot sink down like a SS to throw the football when there are DL and OL in the way. Nor can he kick his back leg up like a pitcher throwing a fastball.

When I have time, I'll break down examples of what he does with his mechanics. They need fixed with consistency.

Would you give up 3 firsts (both 1st round picks this year and one next year) to get the QB you really like, either Bridgewater or Manziel?
========================================================

Bridgewater ? Yes.

Manziel I would not draft.

No

No. To do this, when we possibly could trade out of #4, still have two first round picks this year, and two first round picks next year would be a very bad choice in my opinion. I'd take my chances of getting a Winston or Mariotta with our two firsts (one coming from the trade out) next year.

But not THAT much.

Andrew Luck, yes. Aaron Rodgers, yes.

3 Firsts.

I'd take it a step further than superbowldogg is taking it. I wouldn't take Bridgewater at all, not even in the 2nd or 3rd round. But that's just me. The guy would have to put on about 20-25 lbs for me to consider him. He suffers from anorexia! He'll get broken in half in the NFL.

I would just say 'Thanks, but no thanks.' to Bridgewater.

The people who are concerned about Manziel being too small should also be concerned about Bridgewater being too skinny.

I have no issues with that, not that it should matter. You have an opinion, superbowldogg has an opinion, most of us do. You guys wouldn't take Bridgewater in the 1st (or at all). I would take him with our first pick if possible, and move up to do so if the cost wasn't ridiculous. To each his own.

I get it that you're not saying that you don't think he'll get drafted, just that you wouldn't. I think we can all agree that the way things stand now, Teddy is going to go high in the 1st. Whether everyone thinks it's a good idea or not.

We all just need to agree to disagree. We'll eventually find out who is right and who isn't. We certainly can't make those judgments right now.

I absolutely think that he'll get drafted. Probably very high in the draft. I just hope that it isn't by the Browns.

Wait a minute... is that your flippant way of saying he's skinny or are you actually citing some medical diagnosis? If it's a medical diagnosis I would appreciate you pointing me to it because I haven't read it anywhere... Anorexia is a very serious eating disorder which can lead to death and shouldn't be used as a sarcastic way to say a guy is skinny.

And that is the funny part to all of this, some folks act as if there is an absolute right or wrong answer to these questions and the fact is that the only way to know for sure about any of it is to wait 3-5 years and see how it turns out..

This is why its so senseless to get all worked up in a tizzy when someone calls us out. The board is supposed to allow you to put yourself on the line. If there is any America left, we should all feel free to attack and rip on each others points. If I can back it up with reason, logic, or even a gut feel, then I need to defend my position. But, nobody is getting to the "truth" until everything plays out.

People whine about others getting personal. Life is personal.

Take your shots. If you take them at me, I will try to see where you are coming from, and defend my position if need be. If you, or I am being a troll, that's one thing. If I'm dumb and didn't do my research, that's another. In some cases, guys just want to express how they feel about a situation. Free speech is a good thing. For all people. Trolls should just be ignored.

Bottom line - we all learn. This causes us to think.

The board is " good "

If our FO is believing the same thing that those one the board who believe that we "MUST" get our franchise guy this year are believing, then...

Both Firsts

One of our fourth round picks.

That's as high as I go.

Thanks for the points and the video. I saw flashes of a few of these points but here's what I saw more of.
1) Compact, decently quick release
2) Strong arm
3) Ridiculously good ball placement. Doesn't throw it to where the receiver is but throws it to where they are GOING to be.

At the end of the day, who cares if its unconventional if its effective. The only concern I'd really have is the quality of his competition. In his three years, he's really only had a handful of games against real quality opponents. That being said, he's still performed well in those games.

I'm all for the Browns taking Manziel but if Bridgewater was available at 4, I'd be hard pressed not to pull the trigger there.

that is the thing that drove me nuts yesterday... I didn't just make some random comment. I invested time watching videos... I wrote out my thoughts on his mechanics and footwork and the and reasoning on what I saw. Instead... I get comments like... and we're done. people are ignoring you etc.

I do think Teddy will get Drafted. I don't think he is a top Caliber QB like Luck/Manning/Brees/Brady/Rodgers.

I think he's probably more Smith/Kapernick/Cutler/Romo/Schaub/Henne quality.

He did perform well. LIke I said... I think he should be drafted. I think he should go high 2nd but not high 1st.

I guess I"m looking at it from the perspective of... This is where he is today and this is what he would compare to in the NFL.

IF
he fixes his inconsistencies... he could be really really good.
He could also fall apart.

It really depends on his mental strength when he isn't placing the ball where he wants to while learning how to get more consistency out of his throwing motion/footwork.

He is very young and that is also appealing.

If Bridgewater is anywhere near as good as Smith (current Alex Smith), Kaepernick, Cutler, or Romo he should definitely be the first overall pick. If he is old Matt Schaub he should be a 2nd round pick. If he is Chad Henne he should be a 4th round pick.

Well ANY QB could just fall apart. Personally, I have the feeling that the QB flop in this draft is going to be Bortles. All his balls seem to float too much.

The guy might have a different throwing motion but its not affecting the quickness of the throw post-snap (ie. a wind up), the power he looks to have on it, or the accuracy. So the question is....if it aint broke, why fix it?

I don't know if we have to wait 3-5 years, but since nothing has even occurred in respect to them, we can only state opinions and then wait for the results to come.

Of course, if we waited 3-5 years, the one that came out on the wrong side of the argument may say that years 6-10 could produce results that prove them right.

I'd be interested on what you think of Bortles.

My main like with him is that he's big, meaning less likely to get injured, also tall to see over the lineman. He also seems poised in the pocket.

I want nothing to do with Manziel. Too small, too much playground ball.

The reality is that ALL of the top 4 QB's may bust. Andrew Luck is sitting at home this weekend, RG3's team is drafting ahead of us, or they would if they still owned the pick, Sam Bradford has never broken .500, Sanchez was a joke. Of the four playoff teams left, only one QB drafted in the first round.

It is a complete and total crapshoot, the one thing we CAN accomplish this year is to surround our QB with some legit talent on both sides of the ball. Whether it's Hoyer, a rook, or a FA, unless we find the super-secret lab where they are cloning Peyton Manning, we can get enough supporting talent to make a decent QB look pretty good.

Scenario

We are at #4

Teddy and Football are taken.

Clowney and Bortles are available.

The phone is ringing.

What do you do?

If we're high on Bortles, I think you take him. If they were dead set on TB or JF, I think we're in a bad spot, and I'd probably consider a trade back. They have to figure this QB thing out.

I was thinking about this, and now that the class seems to be separated... What if this situation you're talking about gets brought up and/or they don't like any QB available? Just for argument sake, let's say they were really high on Bridgewater and so/so on the rest. Then what?

You cannot go into next year with these QB's. You can sell the fan base on Hoyer + Rookie, but you are not winning games and you are not filling up seats with Brandon Weeden and 4-12.

It's not good that we're almost forced to take one of these guys. I just hope they are high on more than 1, because it's a bad mix to go into next year with this same QB group and a brand new coach for the second year in a row.

I have no problem giving up our other first and part of next year if it means getting the QB they absolutely love.

The words Brandford and Getting Rid of....just don't go together. Point blank he is a stud QB...you don't get rid of them...unless you got Tom Brady that you discovered you got and you trade Bradford for a at least 2 first round picks.

I don't see the Rams with Tom Brady as in there and certain - Kid is relatively young and a stud...I would give both our #1s in 2014 and 2015 for Bradford. Btw I think we have offered something like that already to the Rams before.

So the question is....if it aint broke, why fix it?

the main reason he needs to adjust is because College always has some massive windows and he threw up a lot of 50/50 balls to DeVante Parker. (who is one of the top WR in College) You will notice that the WR has to stop, wait, or jump up to get the ball and go make a play.

He can't continue that way... He has be more consistent with his inconsistencies. His time in the pocket was usually really good. Most of his plays seem to come after 4-5 seconds. (blown coverages create these opportunities) in the NFL you have 2-3 seconds to get that baby out of there and it is extremely rare that there is a blown coverage. He does have the mental capacity to speed that up.

When you consistently throw the same way... his weaknesses will improve (deep ball accuracy needs help) and he will get better ball control, placement, and zip on his passes.

last thing to nitpick... scouts pick on him about (besides deep ball accuracy, hands size, height, frame, and durability) he also throws with a Glove and has a lower release point

I don't think the glove or height are a big deal but scouts are talking about it. The lower release point could be...
Watch Brees. He is always on his tip toes and he throws way over his helmet.

Bridgewater throws with the ball next to his head. That could be a problem if he comes in at 6'1 or 6'2 vs 6'4 or 6'5. D's are really starting to Swat more passes and low release points makes it easier to knock those things down.

Scenario #2

Teddy goes #1

What are you willing to give up, what will close the deal with the Rams, to get Johnny Football? The most you will give up?

I'll work on it... it'll take me a few days I'm not an expert by any means... its just stuff that I've learned in the past 2 years with coaches and what they are now teaching at pop warner level.
