well, he did bust out in the minors, but even if he made the Tribe, then games would take forever as he stared down his primary receiver (C) and held onto the ball far too long before delivering it off target.

I'm sending his stuff to Pittsburgh. Hopefully, he'd be too lazy to leave when he went to pick it up

1st let me say Brandon failed in Cleveland. How ever it was not from a lack of effort. The kid busted his ass and tried his best. He really wanted to succeed and he really did care about the fans. However he just did not have the God given talents to process things fast enough at the line of scrimmage. He is by no means dumb how ever that extra one half to one second to process things makes all the difference in the world. Good luck buddy but just like 99/9 percent of the rest of us your just not cut out to be a NFL QB
Yeah except for this article. The way I read it is he's blaming the Browns for his woes. There's a bit of chicken or egg here. Pehaps if he'd played better there wouldn't have been as much turmoil and with less turmoil maybe he'd play better. I doubt the latter just sayin. I don't like the swipe at the Browns.Everyone tried and failed and no one is happy about it. Just go already. What if the Browns when to the press dissing Weeden. To me the Browns are bit like my ne'er-do-well brother. I know he's a loser but I'll fight you if you say it. Anyway everyone agrees the Browns need to move on.

The crazy part is that he actually improved this season from the last season. He went from horrendous to annoyingly bad. I laughed when I saw this article pop up on my phone.
C'mon, man.

Comical really.
Brandon do not worry you will get your wish.
Of all the decisions that the Browns have made the one that I will never understand is how Weeden was picked in the first round by Mike Holmgren.
Can not for the life of me come to grips with how that decision was made. As Mr. Spock has said "totally illogical."

Weeden is likely trying to put it out there that his struggles were because of the turmoil going on with the team and not because he stinks. He is trying to get a second chance somewhere else. Too bad he will turn 31 in his third NFL season. My guess is that teams would take Gabbert over Weeden just because of the age difference.

I get your indicator of the amount of so-called improvement being extremely minimal - but some would venture to say there were no improvements.

It's weird, if you just total up all of our QBs numbers it is not a horrible season. 4,361 yards, 25 TDs, 20 INTs, 273 yards per game, and a 55% completion rate. If one person put up those number they would have had a similar season to Ryan Tannehill or Carson Palmer and a better season than Joe Flacco and Eli Manning.
But because two of our QBs just looked completely lost at times it was a horrible season.

I'm sure he did, the problem is in the NFL, everyone is busting hump. We all rag on these coaches who are losing, but man, those guys are still putting in 18 hr days. The worst coach in the NFL is working his rear end off.
I'm sure Brandon worked hard, maybe he didn't put the extra effort into it, but I just don't think he's very good. We never saw him get better.
This story is hilarious too. It's like he doesn't realize that there is a good chance he's going to end up like Tebow.
I'm not a fan of Tebow at all, but I would take him before BW.

Tebow at least had the scrambling effect going for him, Weeden clearly does not. Of Tim and Brandon, IMO, Tim has a better chance of being wanted and acquired by another team than Brandon.
It is funny though. 30+ year old QB who has opportunities to show SOMETHING, especially in a pass-happy offense provided by Norv, yet showed virtually nothing that, IMO, would spark hope, interest or faith. I mean unless his agent has been making calls and etc - he's almost more moronic than anyone thinks if he feels there is/will be a demand for him.

If you look at his stats it will say there was no improvement, even regression. He was better this season though, albeit minimally. He's just not good, hard to improve when you can't read the field and you're inaccurate.

You missed the 'flip' stat. 2 (3?) flip passes...
I laughed at the part in the article that said Weeden might've done better if the regime that drafted him stuck around... Pat F'ing Shu¢mer and his WCO (Worst Called Offense).

And the truth lies somewhere in between. I think in a more stable atmosphere, with more consistent talent around him, a couple years in the same system, etc, he could have probably shown more improvement... I still don't think it would have been enough because of his own personal limitations.
That said, this is getting to be a very tired and annoying argument.. do the Browns ruin QBs or have QBs ruined the Browns.... because in the end, we suck and we need the right combination of staff and players to fix it.

This is from the original article:
Quote:
"Given the turmoil with the coaching staff and lack of public support from the most recent front office," Silver was told, "he's interested in a fresh start, with a clean slate and an opportunity to compete to show he has the talent to develop into a productive player in the league."
I took the most recent FO would be our new one. Maybe I am wrong, but if he meant the previous FO, why would he mention it since they are no longer here?

Quinn is definitely younger. However, 2 TD and 8 INT with a pretty talented Chiefs team doesn't exactly recommend him above anyone. Quinn is, by far, best suited for duty like he served over the course of this past season ...... where he took zero snaps.

J/C... Well its not a dumb move by Weeden.
Look he sees the writing on the wall here. More than likely we will get rid of Campbell and keep him. More than likely we draft a QB high. More than likely Hoyer will be ahead of him in the depth chart. So staying here as a Brown he will be a #3. If he has in Pride in himself he will want out. Better go somewhere else where at least he will start as a #2 with a chance of starting again. So it is what it is. Feel bad for any #1 who doesn't seem to make it. Fact of the matter he would not be a bad commodity to develop except for the simple fact of his age.

I don't think we keep Weeden or Campbell... I think Hoyer and Alex Tanney will be kept along with a rookie from the draft. IMO Tanney is untested and has some potential to be at least a quality back up when Hoyer is moved. I think Hoyer will get a shot to start somewhere or at least a shot to compete for a starting gig. He is also our best option to lead the team while letting a rookie acclimate to the NFL.
Tanney intrigues me and I wish he had had some real playing time last season just to see what he had. When it was evident the season was over the last couple of games, I would have put him in to evaluate him. But apparently coaches and FO were fighting to keep their jobs...

Don't you think two seasons of starting and etc would tell the tale if he even has an upside to develop? His mistake category list is virtually identical from season one to season two. Same mistakes present which I mean I know these qb coaches and coordinators and himself have GOT TO BE reviewing film tape and telling him his flaws, yet nothing seemed to derive from that. This is coming from a dude that called HIMSELF a bonehead pretty much for the Flipper pass, and then went along and did it again.
He just doesn't have what it takes, so I hope you're really wrong about releasing Jason and keep Weeden. I'd be much happier of the reverse of that. Let Jason stay here, be #3 and mentor the two younger QBs. I mean is Weeden going to help any QB develop when he himself can't even demonstrate basic fundamentals of the position? He serves virtually no purpose of being on "this" roster.
Maybe he could go to another team, ride the bench and learn and actually get better. It's a huge maybe and it'll be evident when he's likely released, what type of interest he stirs up via other teams. I'm guessing the interest will be "next to none" and he'll be another Tebow (minus actually riding through someone's camp as I doubt anyone is even interested in giving him a chance like Pats did with Tim).
All JMO of course!

Brandon Weeden was givin the keys to the car for two years.
He should be eternally grateful to the city of Cleveland, the fans, the team, the organization.
From my perspective, he never worked on, never corrected any of his weaknesses. He still is the exact same guy he was at OK State. All the old scouting reports on him were accurate and still are.
When guys like Hoyer and Campbell look at him they see a guy who doesn't have it, yet still gets a free ride because of the political realities that revolve around his being drafted, and the myths/hype that are attached to him.
Two years he had the keys. He was worse his last game than he was his first.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch these guys when they are in college. I know they have access to every film imaginable.
He couldn't make it as a pitcher in baseball. After he ran its course, he switched and became a football quarterback. He never passed the eye test at Oklahoma State. Never! Even when they won that bowl game his senior year. He evolved into a functional college quarterback. A quarterback with a great offensive line, really good running backs, and two of the highest drafted receivers in the history of the NFL. He still didn't look good in many of the games. He could throw and that is all he had to do. DA can throw. Mallet can throw.
Doesn't mean they can play quarterback in the NFL.

Tough crowd It wasn't like I praised him or anything...my apologies for not pissing on him
Things to remember he was a rookie and a 2nd year player - Two different seasons. Two different HC, two different OC, two different languages, two different playbooks, two different theories. Of course there wasn't that big leap into year two. Not saying I was satisfied. The holding onto the ball was horrific...he did try to improve when he came back after Hoyer went down. All I'm saying is if he was 24-26 he could show some promise in the same system for 3-4 years. But also what I'm saying is the fact of the matter he isn't 24-26 he's 30 going on 31.
But he shows more promise than BQ or DA or Campbell or a Tavaras Jackson.
I'm not saying he's going to be a Jim Plunkett.
Again here he will be a #3. He should be way better than a Tanney who is not as old as Weeden but not that young either.
Its ok I don't seem him being relevant to us. as stated I see him as our #3 not a big time endorsement

Conditional "last man standing"? I want him out a lot as well. He can join the parade of other washouts and busts. Has he developed anything as far as abilities that are remotely tradeworthy? We won a few in spite of some of his ongoing errors. Good luck down the road.

Lol I will speak for myself, although I think others will agree - no one is trying to ride ya for sticking up for him. Just curious as to why you have your views/opinions.

Using your own example (of many that could be used, including stare down, inaccurate passing, etc) of him holding the ball too long - what difference does who the HC, OC, verbiage used in the diff playbooks, etc have on expecting a guy to not hold onto the ball and see the field? Nothing. It's a fundamental and you're going to want that regardless of the above 'technicalities' cause every system is going to be attacked with pass rushers and every QB is going to get pressured and have a need to get the ball out immediately. Unfortunately for Brandon and the right side of the line, defenses knew this and pressured more often than typical cause they knew they could get to Brandon and disrupt him. What difference does the above technicalities have on how extremely inaccurate he was/is, even when he was granted time and a safe and comfy pocket to throw from? None. I mean he was use to shotgun in college right, Norv threw him in the shotgun many, many times and it didn't help him get the ball out, didn't help him throw more accurate or help him dissect defenses and so forth. Same horrible passer that lacks football IQ.
And if he showed more promise than Jason, then why did the players seem disgusted when Brandon returned, and don't try to tell me I am wrong, you could see it in their faces and how deflated they were, including the guys on the defense too? Why did the softy Chud, whose known for sticking with struggling players and starting them - bench him for Jason? The writing is on the wall, just need to read it! He's a loser on the field in the pros. If every college QB came into the pros and rocked it, we'd likely have not went through millions of staff changes lol. Nothing against Weeden as person, but the infamous phrase "you can't make chicken salad outta chicken crap" is fitting here in terms of him as a football quarterback.

When have they said that? Weedy ought to be flushed out to Lake Erie IMO and he should get terminal 3rd degree windburn leaving (except I have yet to see him move fast). Has Pettine or Farmer or JH dissed him?

This time next year he'll have his first season as a QB coach at some Oklahoma middle school under his belt.

And if he showed more promise than Jason, then why did the players seem disgusted when Brandon returned, and don't try to tell me I am wrong, you could see it in their faces and how deflated they were, including the guys on the defense too?
Maybe they were intimidated by his work ethic? Up until today I was under the impression that he didn't do what ever it took in order to clean up his footwork, work on his pocket presence, watch film, simulate reads and decision making, drill his 3,5,7 step drops from under center, work on his accuracy, etc....
Since he did everything that was asked of him, maybe they were worried that those standards would apply to everybody and they didn't want their comfort disturbed.
Who knows
