Actually, this will cost us money, because Weden's contract was guaranteed for this year at 100%, and next year at 50%. Thus, we accelerate the remainder of his bonus that hadn't already been counted against the cap, plus this year's salary, and 50% of next year's all against this year's cap. I would guess that this will total between $4 and $5 million.

Not that it makes a huge difference, given our cap situation.

The Browns have released QB Brandon Weeden. They did so while scrambling and tossed him underhand out of the facility.

I bet ya it was a rainbow flip toss... that would have been returned for a pick 6 back into the building if they didn't lock the doors prior to throwing the indecisive Campbell out.

Campbell has more time before we need the cap hit back. Or is he gone?

This day was coming the second Weeden decided he wanted out.

What does that even mean?

I'm glad the guy is gone. He was a terrible QB, and a whiny loser to boot. But I'm not about to throw a party or anything.

I expected this. There was no way the guy was going to net anything on the trade market. I'm not entirely sure why you thought it was possible.

We better get a FA QB this year now. Vick could appease the dawgs.

I may be the only one that feels this way, but I'd take Vick over Schaub.

(I don't want either and I don't think they'd come here...but that's another discussion)

I have to admit, when Weeden was drafted I was one of those that wasn't too upset. True I thought we should have have used our 2nd round pick, but I thought he would be ok. He had the size, the arm, and I thought being more mature the smarts... Wow was I wrong. From the first interview he gave, I was left shaking my head.. the guy is just not that smart.

I am now so glad to see him (and now Campbell) go. Its also why in this years draft, there is only one QB I would take... Bridgewater, because of his Football smarts.

3.25mil - 2mil = 1.25mil in net savings between those two moves

Since both were fired, does this mean we signed Grossman? Looks like some sort of "message" to announce both at the same time

I hate to sound incredibly mean, but I am extremely pleased with the thought of knowing that we've just cut ties with him, he'll get his unearned money by NOT being a part of this roster...

Now we have the utmost luxury of making fun of whatever team, IF there is going to be one, that signs him... talk about an instant pity party lmao.

Good luck to him..

I don't think anyone talks of him like he was a God, but he's done a better job than most, so far.
As for how he looks.... you're reading way too far into things there; what else is he supposed to do at a press conference where you're supposed to toe the company line and show support for the move the organization just made? What kind of stink would there have been if he looked like a sour puss?

I feel the same way. I thought it was a waste of a pick and we could have done much better at the time. I'm slowly looking forward to this year knowing we won't be seeing Weeden in the Brown and Orange. Can't wait to see who we bring in from the draft.

If you could, Mr. Weeden break with tradition just this once and LET THE DOOR HIT YOU IN THE A$$ ON YOUR WAY OUT! That'd be GREAT!

PERHAPS IT WILL FLIP YOU ALL THE WAY TO YOUR CAR!

Then please drive safely out of Ohio!

Kinda bothers me that a guy can dis a club, perfidiously ask out of a contract and walk away with 100% guaranteed money. Glad to see Weeden move on.
Campbell not so much I thought he was just fine as a backup.

You raise a good point! Why should he get any more of Jimmy's money if he asked to be let go?

Weeden is also my least favorite Brown ever beating out Ralph Brown and Brady Quinn. I hated both picks when Weeden and Quinn were picked at the time. But I saw optimism with Quinn when he stepped in during San Fran and beat them when DA took the team to 10-6. I saw Quinns first start against Denver and the dude could not throw down the sidelines to save his life. He had one good game and still lost to Detroit because of a PI call in the endzone by Hank Poteat. But I tried to see the optimisim like I did last preseason with Weeden in Turners offense. I also didnt like the way Weeden handeld himself when he was stuck in a pissing match with Seneca and McCoy. Wallace said they didnt need all 3 of them and tried to be Weedens tutor, wow what a plan Holmgren Then I see McCoy try to talk to Weeden on the sideline during a preseason game and Weeden ignored him and had a nose up attitude towards McCoy. Now Weeden knows how McCoy feels by saying he wants to start after being handed the job over McCoy. I heard players like Cribbs say that they could have won more games with Colt starting the year. I think Colt had more credibility than Weeden when its all said and done and both could be out a job this year but if Quinn can make the Jets after being cut by Seattle, then maybe both will at least be given a shot to compete in training camp after signing for league minimum. They both beat out Seneca Wallace (McCoy twice) and Seneca found a job last year too.

Well its Thursday and I just read that we cut Weeden and Campbell...lol

Did we sign Grossman yet? Hoyer Tanney and Rookie. Where are all those draft experts saying this means we won't take a QB high and that means we won't take a QB high. Looks like we are taking a QB high...lol

Oh and Heckert by far was the best GM in drafting that we ever had. We just got a little desperate that last year I think. Holmgren did not help.

jmho - well shame we couldn't get a 5th rounder or something for Weeden. He was hexed from his first game getting caught in that big flag...the writing was against the wall. See you Weeden n Campbell good Health and maybe I do hope you are on a team we play against

I'm happy that our Brandon Weeden period of QBing is finally officially over here in Browns Town. I'm quite sure most of us feel this way.

I wonder if anyone will dare pick him up? I'm thinking third string, holding a clipboard..... somewhere?

I feel for him. He got roasted by the press, like I've never seen before by the Plain Dealer. (And he deserved it, which is even worse!)

He gave it his all and his all was just not good enough. He held onto the ball for too long one too many times. In doing so it probably aged me another ten years. I'd cuss up a storm at home!

Goodbye, good luck & good riddance.

ugh.

Just my opinion, but I don't think anyone signs Weeden... You've got a few QB's on FA and a pretty decent size group in this draft. I just can't see how an organization would offer him quarterback money. Even mimimum QB money. Why?

As far as Grossman goes, if he's QB3, that's fine. I don't care who our 3rd QB is. If we are starting our 3rd QB, we've got bigger problems. We keep drafting QB's who don't have the smarts to either get down or get rid of the ball so that they avoid those hits. I don't think this ridiculous streak of using multiple QB's each year is all on the OL.

I don't think this signals that we are drafting a QB at 4 either. Maybe not even at 26... If they are that high on Hoyer and just not that in love with this QB class than I could see them sticking it out for a year. We all hope that isn't the case. We hope they do like one of these top guys and decide to go and get him, but I just think it's possible that they go with someone else at 4.
