Yeah, that's what I'm alluding to. The cloud system.
Playstation Now will be like Netflix of gaming. But that will be the only way to play PS3 games on the PS4.
There is a rumor that the PS4 is getting emulation software to play PS1 and PS2 games. There is some speculation that it will allow you to play disc copies and others who speculate that Sony will want you to the titles off the PSN Store.
I'm hoping for the disc version. Link
This is old (March 2013) but Sony has a patent to allow Trophies on older games with out the need to reprogram the game.

That's what emulators are for.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I just don't like the fact that I can't play the PS3 games that I already own on the PS4. Some people don't care about this but to me it's a very big deal.

Then we'd all have to pay another 200 dollars for a cell processor.

I know the head of Sony Games or whatever said it would have cost the customer more (as the cost would have be transfered to the customer), but 200$. That seems like a lot. My PS3 cost me 200$ period with Last of Us, a controller, and Batman

Good News for Sony today. PS4 is doing very well for them. Quote:
31 JUL 2014 SONY FINANCIALS REVEAL PLAYSTATIONS OUTSOLD XBOXES 3:1 IN Q1 2014 1.7k As the PS4 helps games revenue to double. BY LUKE KARMALISony has released its financial report for the first quarter of the year from April to June 30, revealing games revenue has risen 95.7 percent year-on-year.
The results reveal ¥257.5bn ($2.5bn) generated in sales from Sony's Games & Network Services division, which the company attributes to the successful launch of the PS4. As a result, last year's first quarter loss of ¥16.4bn ($164m) has been replaced by an operating profit of ¥4.3bn ($43m), even though sales of PS3 consoles and games have fallen.
Though Sony doesn't reveal how many PS4 and PS3 consoles were sold separately, the report confirms combined sales to the consumer of 3.5 million units in the first quarter of the year, a big jump from last year's 1.1 million, while sales of PSP, Vita and Vita TV rose to 750,000, up from last year's 600,000.Combined software sales also saw a leap from ¥68bn to ¥85bn.
Microsoft's financial report for the same period was announced last week, revealing combined shipping figures for Xbox One and Xbox 360 sit at 1.1 million, meaning for the first three months of this financial year the PlayStation brand outsold Xbox 3:1.
Sony is forecasting revenues of ¥1,240bn for the Games & Network Services division for the full year, with an operating income of ¥25bn. Full year forecasts for the business as a whole remain unchanged, with the decision to sell the PC business still proving costly. There's an investor call dealing with the results due later today, so we'll update the story as more news is revealed.

Sony makes money on movies and games, but not on smartphones BY DANIEL COOPER @DANIELWCOOPER 9 HOURS AGO
It wasn't long ago that Sony, almost inexplicably for a company of its size and heritage, was losing money everywhere it went. After a few years of pain, however, things have begun to look up, with the company posting a first quarter net profit of around $265 million. The bulk of the good news comes from the PlayStation 4 and Sony Pictures, the company's film and TV arm that benefited from the successes of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and 22 Jump Street. The only sore point on the company's financials is that its mobile division continued to see sales of Xperia handsets drop -- a loss that even managed to offset a favorable bump in the exchange rate. The corporation is still predicting that it'll eat around $487 million in losses across the year, so don't be surprised if someone greenlights 23 Jump Street in the next couple of weeks.

This Play Now system is garbage. You have to pay to rent the games at different prices for different periods of time. $4.99 for 4 hours, $9.99 for 1 day, $14.99 for 15 days, $24.99 for 30 days, and $39.99 for 90 days for example. I have no interest in paying full price for an old game that I get to keep for 3 months. It's BS and I'll never use it. They need to just let us download the games to our systems to keep, I'd pay for that. But, I'm not paying for rentals.

I won't use the PS Now system either. I'm not a digital rental guy, I also don't buy a lot of games digitally either. However, PS Now is for the people that will rent a game for two weeks and beat it and move on.
PS Now will be available on the PS3, PS4, PS Vita & Select Bravia TV's. So people without a Playstation System but a Bravia TV with the PS Now app can rent a game for the weekend when the grand-kids are over. Or someone with a Vita can now play PS3 games on the go.
I remember back in the 90's renting a game from Blockbuster. Those games were $4 for 3 days. That would be $120 for 90 days. Rental services are always more expensive than buying out right.
Also, with PS Now, it's the developer setting the prices not Sony (unless they are the dev/publisher for said game).
I wouldn't call it garbage, it's just not designed for you. You are not their target audience for that product.

It's garbage for me, that's my point. I have no interest in it.
