All i know is i would have given up a hell of a lot more than a 6th round pick to have a veteran like schuab. Hell let them have all the 6th and 7th rounds picks for that matter. I mean I like Hoyer and all but schuab is a proven QB that just had one bad season after all his weapons got taken away with injury.
Cant believe we couldn't and didn't beat this offer.

I agree that it is a bit confounding...

Sounds like Pryor made be trade bait or maybe cut now as the Raiders had that other guy that took over last season to use for backup. What do people think about his potential as a backup here if he's released?
i would be for having pryor come here and straight up compete to start.
this guy literally had nothing over there. the OL sucked, his starting RB was always injured, the WR were a joke.
yet he improved almost every game. plus, he's done what our QB's STILL can't do: he beat the steelers last year.
i just remember watching raiders game last year, and he would move in the pocket, but he actually waited to see if there was anybody to throw to before taking off, showed a crazy amount of patience for a running QB and a guy who just learned how to properly throw a football.

I would only bring Pryor here as a project wide receiver and not as a QB.

Speaking as a huge OSU homer ....... I want no part of Pryor.

A 6th round pick for him would have been cheap, but his salary wasn't. Perhaps the Browns thought he'd get cut and THEN they could have gotten him on the cheap? Dunno

yeah probably, still not like we didn't have the cap space.
gonna be interesting which QB's go where now. IMHO Houston made a huge mistake dumping schaub.

They probably didn't want to pay $9 million, or whatever his 2014 salary is, for a guy who might be a backup here.
If he had been cut, then we could have signed him to a deal closer to league minimum. That might have been OK. Taking over his current contract, however, evidently wasn't.
OK, I just looked, and his contract calls for a $10 million salary, and $1 million in per game bonuses ... and then 2015 is $12.5 million plus $1 million in per game bonuses. 2016 is even more.
I don't know what parts might be guaranteed. His contract called for $29.5 in guarantees, of which $17.5 million was the signing bonus.
It cost the Texans $10.5 million to trade Schaub, assuming that there are no further guarantees in his contract. (it would have cost the same to cut him)
Just wanted to add that it is possible that Schaub might renegotiate his deal, but there is no guarantee of that. There also would be no guarantee that he would do that to play here.

I can't see any reason Shaub would re-structure his deal. Oakland has the cap and needed a QB. Is it possible? Well, anything is possible. But I see no evidence that would be something he would consider. At least not this year.
What I do think it means, is that Oakland believes any QB they may have had targeted at #5 probably won't be there.
JMHO
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I think Oakland is just bringing him in for a one year stint, so his contract really doesn't mean much except for this year and they have the cash for that. If he proves to be worth it this season, they already have him for next if they choose. It's not a bad spot to be in if you're convinced he's going to be a good starter this year.
At 5 they can draft a qb if they choose, either 1st, 2nd or 3rd round.

The Raiders absorbed Schaub's huge contract, I don't think it would have been wise for us to do the same.
