Overpaid for this year, but for the duration of the contract, he's making about the amount of money that he should make. You know, the years where we will have to extend Gordon, Haden, Sheard ect.
you had a good run Hank.

I have seen a bunch of contracts structured like that so far this year. Many teams are flush with cap space and are choosing to use that space to front load contracts.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Andrew Hawkins likely to join Browns CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals are not expected to match the Cleveland Browns' offer sheet for restricted free-agent receiver Andrew Hawkins, a source told ESPN.com on Thursday. Andrew Hawkins will bring a spark to the Browns' offense if the Bengals, as expected, don't match Cleveland's offer sheet, writes Jamison Hensley. Cleveland has extended the third-year receiver a four-year, $13.6 million deal, of which $10.8 million would be paid in the first two years. Hawkins signed the offer sheet earlier this week. The Bengals received it Thursday, meaning they have five days to match the deal if they want to hold on to him. They have not yet announced their plans. By not matching the offer sheet, the Bengals won't lose anything other than the player himself. They will keep the $1.4 million they set aside for him as a tender last week. Hawkins was one of three Cincinnati restricted free agents who received low-round tenders. Because all three were undrafted players, the Bengals won't be owed any draft-pick compensation if the team doesn't match Cleveland's offer. A former standout at Toledo, the 28-year-old Hawkins would be returning to northern Ohio after spending the first three years of his NFL career in Cincinnati. Prior to coming to the Bengals, he played in the CFL under current Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman. Hawkins missed half of the 2013 regular season with an ankle injury suffered while diving for a ball during a preseason practice. Through eight games, he had just 12 receptions for 199 yards and no touchdowns. Of his yards receiving, 127 came after the catch. The speedy slot receiver had a better year in 2012, finishing with 51 catches for 533 yards and four touchdowns. Only Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Green and tight end Jermaine Gresham had more receiving yards on the team that season. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/106036...cinnati-bengals

It's looking more and more like we'll get Hawkins! An excellent replacement for what Bess should have done/been for us!

According to Grossi, the Bengals have until 11:59PM Tusday night to match or decline the offer sheet.

Man, that is a lot of money for a guy who has done nothing in the NFL. And yet, we have refused to pay offensive linemen, which is a much more critical area.

In regards to catching the football, you are right. However, guys like Beadles and Asamoah are accomplished players. Veldheer is highly regarded. Albert is a stud. Schwatz played well last year.

Ah, nevermind.... I thought you were just talking about Cousins and Lava.
Yeah, it'd make me feel better if we at least got a guy in here to play Guard as insurance.

Me too... they know the numbers. They know what they can/can't do. Does Cinci really have to milk the time so long? How much longer do they need to freakin' decide?

I would be surprised if any team did not wait until the last minute ... even us. I have no issues with that.

I don't see any reason why they should do anything before Tuesday... do you? Flip the scenario around. Why would you want to give clarity to your division rival sooner than you had to?

It's not like we are playing them this Sunday or anything. Heck the draft is still a bit away. There is no strategic advantage I see of milking the decision process.

I never said that...mind to quote?
you're right...when I first read it I thought you were saying that he wasn't going to be good and then you stated in those two seasons...not realizing you were stating the last two not the first two.
btw how old is Welker.
Also he has young legs its not like he's been pounded over the years regardless of an injury here n there. So he might last the 2nd half of the contract. It seems like the GM who ever it is cannot please your expertise in these matter. Already you know that he is has only a 2 year career as a slot WR... sorry for the miss quote but still I don't think you proved a point.

Hard to argue with that reasoning... and I do try to live my life that way. If I'm impatient about this, it's because I want to see it finalized. I think the kid is pretty dynamic, and would look great catching passes for us. As a lifelong Browns fan, I can't shake that old feeling. I thought that it was 5PM originally. Midnight never sounded right.

Whichever it is, what it means is that when I sit down with my wife tonight at around 6 pm, we'll either have him, or we won't

From Twitter: NFL extends Bengals' deadline to match Browns' offer to Hawkins until midnight, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal. Quote:
Nate Ulrich @NateUlrichABJ Follow #NFL clarified to #Browns just now that the deadline for #Bengals to match Andrew Hawkins' offer sheet is midnight tonight rather than 4 pm1:13 PM - 18 Mar 2014

That is certainly what they want us to think. Even if they do end up matching it isn't the end of the world. We'll be fine. I'm not worried about it either way.

I'm only annoyed if waiting for Hawkins caused us to half-heartedly approach Edelman. No way of knowing for sure, I guess.
