If McQuistan has to play tackle, he is killing us. He will make John St. Clair look like Anthony Munoz.
(Maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration).
Not sure that is true, but why compare him to Munoz?
We just signed a proven NFL player with 9 years under the belt to be a decent player on a 1 year deal. The guy did just start for the reigning SB champs. He didn't suck enough to prevent them from winning games.
Ok....I am not expecting a pro-bowl type player like some of you expect all of our players to become.

I love the signing of McQuistan if he is a backup. I like the signing of McQuistan if he is our starting right guard. If McQuistan has to play tackle at all we are screwed.

From the little I know of him, a backup is all he is. However, experienced depth is welcomed...

Great signing!!!! I remember that every single poster on this board had him as one of the offensive linemen we absolutely had to get when were discussing the OL before the free agency period. Wait.............or was that a dream. Actually, I don't recall one single poster mentioning this guy. Not even as a possibility. But yeah...............great signing!!! Nope, no FO bias going on at all. Now, here is a dose of reality. The guy wasn't highly touted coming out of college, but I believe the Raiders drafted him in round 3. That was somewhat surprising. He dominated in college against inferior competition. The latter probably concerned most draft evaluators. I like the fact that the guy has pretty good feet. I do like that he can play multiple positions. He actually might be a guy who can help us out if we do use the zone blocking scheme. Another thing to consider................how many of you remember him from when he was here a few years ago? Does that tell us anything? I won't say this is a good or bad signing. I'll wait and let it play out.

If he was brought in as a depth signing then it appears to be a decent signing. I know next to little about the guy, but he has had multiple starts at quite a few positions. Tabber might be on to something with them giving Pinkston the RG spot........not a fan of that AT ALL, but bringing in another depth OG like this probably means we are not investing high in an OG because I can't see them having two guys who make decent coin backing up the same positions.

I did not see one poster saying this was a great signing.
I saw a few that noted it was good if in a back up role only and that is what it is, a good signing for depth.
I see that he was rated about the same as Lava, so the FO has done something that seems to be the ongoing tune, fill holes with players that are arguably as good as those that left but fit the scheme better, ( in this case the ZBS which you seem to agree with).
And that seems to be a GOOD thing.. but I do agree I will withhold judgement until I see the product on the field.

Compared to our backup tackles the last few years he looks like Munoz compaired to them

I think what his starting in Seattle shows us is that if you have a unit that works well together and a decent RB and a QB that is a little mobile and can get the ball out quickly, that even average OL guys can look a lot better than how we have made ours look through the years..
Considering what we had on the roster to start at OG and what was backing them up, this signing looks really good... I do not look for us to draft 2 starting caliber OGs, so I suspect he will compete for a starting gig in the offseason.. and worst case he is a veteran back-up... not sure when the last time was that our interior OL stayed consistent through a season.

I wouldn't say that, but it would be a downgrade for sure. He has started quite a few games at LT. Seattle wouldn't have kept sticking him out there if he wasn't at least OK.
The guy started for the Super Bowl Champs last year. Maybe he was their lines weak link, I don't know, but my guess is he is a big upgrade over anyone else currently on our roster who will compete for the open guard position.
My hope is for a long term fix, we spend a 3rd rounder on a rookie guard and he ends up starting at some point this season, and the 8 seasons after.

He was never on my list...only one was Schwartz and once we signed Kyle and made it known that we were going to an Outside zone blocking scheme I backed off a little on that.
But I am pretty sure Farmer made it obvious what we got him for. A Veteran back up role with a broad range of experience. Right now our 6th man who should make it possible to cut down a roster spot for the OL.
As for when he was here, he didn't get a start here at all. So hard to tell. OL you need hitting to evaluate its not like other positions.
What he was in 2010 I don't know didn't see him at all. Maybe brought here by Heckert and Warhop didn't like him for our OL scheme???
What I do know is has been serviceable in all of his temp duties on the OL making him valuable. Also he must have gotten a lot of technique down to help mentor the youngsters a coming
I think a pretty solid pickup. It also substantiates my theory that Pinkston replaced Lava and this pick up replaced the 6th man. I can assume better than Cousins considering the reviews from his back up temp duties at multiple positions compared to Cousins.
jmho - is that it for FA?? maybe after the draft we will work on any needed depth.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

I can see him beating out Pinky. He may end up the key back-up, but I am not ready to call him that just yet.

nothing wrong with a little "wait and see" approach. this could be a huge signing or he could be a backup.
either way.. the FO is trying to address the needs of this team and it is very noticeable.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

I think that, at worst, he's reason enough to not panic at the position.
For the folks that remember him when he was here in 2010 (serious questions):
What was our blocking scheme then?
What blocking scheme(s) did Seattle use in 2013?
Is it possible that he's actually a good fit for the zone scheme we will be running (by most accounts I've seen) and wasn't better regarded when he was here because perhaps we didn't run that scheme then? I don't know the answer to this, I'm actually asking.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Just glad to see that they've signed some potential assistance with the interior of the O line.
And the next head coach is ......

Just something to think about,
We lost two guards Lauvell & Cousins, We signed McQuistan so were down one, Were going to draft one or two more O-lineman guard Tackle center combo's who knows, and were bound to sign a couple UDFA if for nothing else to take reps during camp so for right now end of March beginning of April were down one lineman prior to the draft, once camp starts we'll have plenty not every single one all-pro but desent back-ups. We will be fine,
