Basically the NFL doesn't want to become the MLB. The MLB took the hard stance against drugs and now they're basically a dead game.

I played baseball and it was ok. Watching baseball though is about as fun as watching paint dry. Throw in the fact that almost every major record is being held by some one who was using some kind of performance enhancing drug and the game loses all credibility.
IMO baseball died they year of the hold out. I haven't watched it since.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Plus almost all of the biggest games (all star game, playoffs and world series) all start so late that kids can't stay up and watch.

Uhh, something about a "Stacked Deck", etc. 
I know the "on any given night, Sat afternoon, Sun afternoon" saying, etc, but over a period of time, and in this case 162 times, stacked decks usually come out on top. Till they fix the salary cap, or in baseballs case the lack of a salary cap, I'm out. Sadly, I was a huge fan in my younger years. Huge. But for the above reason I couldn't even tell you who played in the World Series last year.
I stopped following the NBA after a member of the media asked Patrick Ewing his thoughts on a possible impending Referee strike. His answer, just after signing a multi-bazillion dollar contract was, "I just hope they don't get screwed like we did".  I picked it back up after we drafted Lebron but since he left I don't think I've watched a game.

No places to play, particuparly for city kids.
Hell my son is always getting a pick p game of baskelball when his friends, even at anytime fitness they can go play B-ball.
same with football, get some guys (and girls ) together and play some in jmy back field.
I remmeber we used to be able to use a little league field and get pick up games or play home run derby with a couple friends, now rhw LL filed are loaded with league / select play and practice.
With no place to play and no real attraction, it is no wonder it is a dying game with todays youth.
And watching the game, please... 3 hour snozze a thon.. I put on a baseball game when i want to take a nap.

Not to mention when was the last time you saw a group of kids playing a pick up game of anything? If it's not an organized team activity, kids are just lazy. They don't know how to "play" and make up games. We used to think nothing of having a whiffle ball tournament with 3 or 4 kids all day long or make up some game that used a ball of some sort just to be outside. I remember when it was a punishment to stay in the house. Now it's the other way around.
In addition, (and this is not a knock on soccer), soccer has really taken a lot of kids from baseball and softball. At an early age, it's much easier to run around a field and kick a ball than try to use a bat to hit a ball that's moving or to catch a thrown or batted ball. Soccer is a cheaper sport to fund as well. I know that as the kids get older, soccer becomes more demanding and has more to it, but at a young age, it's an easier sport for kids to participate in with some success.
There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.

I see pickup football quite often. It's usually some bone-crunching affair that winds up with a couple of guys lying on the sidelines in agony waiting for their buddies to give them a ride home. Looks like fun.

Yeah, I get your whole post.
When I was a kid, I'm 61, we used to field 2 full teams just from the neighborhood. And we were in the country. We had a near full-sized field that we all kept mowed in good condition. Saturday and Sunday were ballgames and no one had to be asked to show up. They just came. Guys from 10 to about 17 years old showed up every weekend.
For a couple of years one of the dad's was a little league coach. He had the bats, bases, catcher's equipment, first basemen's glove... all of that. One dad, who had only two girls, (who didn't play), forked over for the materials to build a backstop. Sunk long poles in the ground and covered them with chicken wire. We had it made.
That went on until I graduated HS and joined the Army. It kept on for a couple more years but us kids grew up and there wasn't a new crew of youngins to take our place.
I think you're right, these days I don't know if stuff like that happens.

these days I don't know if stuff like that happens. maybe just the opposite. 15 years ago Moms n Dads in a big Baseball town built up the Varsity stands and raised money for a nice scoreboard. The High School games were a big thing for the local community to come down and watch.
Well - I saw on the news the other day. They were forced to take down those nice stands and Scoreboard??? Huh? WHY? Well you see the Girls Softball field did not have the same comforts - Of course they only pulled in maybe 5% of the crowds. Still a Parent complained and rather than make one side do their own planning and fund raisings to upgrade...they just simply told the Better off one to come down to level bad level.
What is wrong with our society. If one is good the other is bad. Instead of finding ways to uplift the bad. We down grade the good.
Now a days your community would be chastised for Mowing the field and putting in their Back Stop n build something nice. And the 10-17 year old hang out would be considered Gang related activities.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off!
