Agreed.
Maybe he's like the dolphins getting rid of Bess.
Yep. Add me to that list!

Perfectly said. The guy is at the top of his game, still has youth on his side, and wasn't a burden as far as salary.
You don't simply release a top player without there being a solid reason. People need to think about that for a moment.
Why would they just cut he guy?
The guy is a gangbanger. Let some other team take on that problem if they wish.
Just to add...I think these owners need to get in a room and all handshake on the idea that teams won't try to trade off a problem without full disclousure on what they know on some of these guys.
To me there is a difference between trying to get the best of a deal with another team and trying to screw some other team because of things you know and don't disclose. I think this should be insisted upon by the league office.

For the sake of argument, let's say that none of this gang junk ever existed, and all other aspects of DJax are the same. Off-field deportment, contract issues, skipping meetings...
I am more w/you and YTown on this one. I am not saying cfrs is wrong. I just disagree.
Even if Jackson does not have ties to a gang, the Eagles still released him for a reason. Why wouldn't Kelly want him around the team?
Our team is young. We have not experienced winning. We don't have the veteran presence [like New England does] to handle guys who are not dedicated to winning. Missing meetings, not playing his best because of contract issues, etc is exactly what this team does not need.
I would rather obtain a WR via another method. The negatives don't outweigh the positives and I also don't value the WR position as much as most posters do. We have spent a fortune on receivers over the years and the bounty has not been fruitful.

j/c...
Been listening to a lot of news on this subject. Here is what I have found out:
1. Gang ties, hey its where he grew up and who his childhood friends are. The gang ties was new with the Eagles as one of his friends was up for a Murder investigation. There was no Hernandez thing going no Ray Lewis thing going. Just somebody he has been associated with was up for a murder investigation. His friend was found not to be involved. The NFL/Eagles conducted their own investigation and Jackson was not involved with any criminal acts in any way.
2. The robbery at his Philly home was very suspect - 2 Guns 250K in cash - like who needs to keep that kind of cash around??? But the suspicious part was there was no force-able entry.
3. What all have to remember is that Chip Kelly is a college coach and they are more apt to be less - how do you say - relaxed with discipline. Not saying that is Good or Bad...but when the team starts losing you will always here about that stuff.
4. One and two are forgivable things and could be tolerated to some degree. The real reason he was released is with 1 n 2 as a foundation then there was the football part. Late for team meetings. Arguments with the coaches. Maybe an Allen Iverson moment, Practice? PRACTICE??? But it was for those reasons that he was let go.
5. Another thing brought to my attention. Incognito, Riley Cooper - all had teamates come to their defense. Not one has come to Jackson's defense. A couple have wished him good luck and that is it. When your peers don't mind you gone - you have to wonder how bad was that considering we all know the kids talent.
jmho - well what I picked up over the last couple of days.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

I hope we do our due diligence both ways, and make a decision on whether or not to offer him a contract accordingly.
Frankly him showing up late for team meetings, and such, concerns me as well. If a player cannot work within the structure of the team, that does scare me.
You are probably looking at it properly Ytown. Do the Due Diligence, see if there is anything to be afraid of or to shy away from. If you don't find anything, then try and sign him up.
I was thinking about this last night.. I'd made a post and wasn't very forgiving. But then I remembered something in my own life.
Had a good friend as a kid, John was his name. We had our first holy communion at the same time and we had our confirmation at the same time. We went to grade school and High School together until he dropped out in 11th grade.
I lost track of John for a few years then ran into him at a party. He was into drugs by then and frankly was a mess. Anyway,, John went to prison for a long time after having been arrested and convicted for armed robbery.
I ran into him in 2010 at our 40th Class Reunion. (totally shocked to see that he was alive and showed up) We picked up our conversation from about where we left it some 35 years prior.
Should I now be considered a risk because I know him?
Having said that, missing meetings bothers me as well, and as someone else said, it bothers me when a talent such as his just gets cut like that.. There is more to the story..

Nor am I... he's been suspended and has gotten beat on by every beat writer and reporter and so forth. He's missed two games and still lead the league in yards. He's had two horrible qbs and a decent one throwing him the football on game days, and still flourished.
I think Gordon has realized how good this game can be for/to him.... IF he is good to the game. I don't think he'd be willing to jeopardize that and I had heavy doubts about him towards the very beginning of the season...

Please forgive if these Jackon articles have already been posted: Decision to cut Jackson wasn’t a surprise, but the timing was Unnamed Eagles say DeSean Jackson won’t be hard to replace Quote:
Eagles center Jason Kelce took to Twitter immediately after Jackson was cut to say everything would be fine, and now two Eagles players who requested anonymity have told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Jackson was a distraction and won’t be difficult to replace.
...
However, the report says “the selfishness, the lateness, and the immaturity” have been present for as long as Jackson has been an Eagle, and that eventually enough was enough.
Police dramatically revise estimate of cash stolen from DeSean Jackson
Of all the "gang" crap being said - it just sounds like the Eagles locker room hated that man. I don't think he is anything that should remotely be considered for our young team. We don't need a greedy/arrogant player on this team. I'd rather play Greg Little...

and i would rather win games....if we signed Jackson it would totally free us up for B.P.A. in the draft. The urgent need to draft Watkins would be gone, and Jackson is a NFL Proven WR. Sign him to incentive based contract, with a decent signing bonus and dont look back. Gordon, Jackson, and Hawkins lined up in a 3wr set, with Cameron in motion out of the backfield and Tate ready for the hand off Ds would have a hard time covering that. the Play action pass would actually work for once.

Did he turn Philly into a power house, or was he actually a disruption? And what makes you think he would want to sign in Cleveland for an incentive laden contract?
The last thing our young and undisciplined team needs is a guy who is late for meetings, argues w/coaches, pouts about his contract, etc.

Agreed. We have a guy or 2 that's currently walking a fine line. Why would we bring in a bad apple? Would he help us win? Possibly. But, just as possible would be that he would cause problems.

I couldn't agree more with both of those points.
How soon people forget what it was like with Hillis and Edwards and K2.
It's not even so much that other players will be influenced and begin to act like them, but between those guys there were 3 different seasons of distractions all over one dang player at a time.
We don't need that. We're trying to dig out of the basement. Any negative situation could set us up for another distracting season. We shouldn't take the chance of bringing that onto ourselves.
Fool me once shame on you/ fool me twice shame on me/ fool me three times, what the hell's going on around here?!/ purposefully set myself up for the high possibility of being fooled again after all I should have learned, I don't belong in this job!

I would pass on D. Jackson.
I would like to see the Browns target the 2 LSU wide recievers. They would compliemnt Gordon and Cameron well.
Beckham is an explosive athlete who is a good route runner with good hands. Could fill the #2 wide receiver spot. Would be an excellebt choice at #26 or #35.
Landry is a possesion receiver who also possesses good hands. Would make a perfect 3rd round pick that could provide depth in the receiving core.

to everyone who replied to my comment look at these facts....Jackson isnt anything worse than what we currently have on the team as far as bad influences. and correct me if im wrong but didnt we actually win games with the likes of Hillis, Edwards, and K2? yeah i thought so. im not saying he would sign here for an incentive based contract it was what i would offer him. throw a decent signing bonus and make the contract incentive based to get the most out of him. if he becomes a distraction cut him or trade him. Lets not forget he was due 10+mil this year so there are other factors in play here folks. Truth of the matter is he hasnt done anything illeagal. I just had a buddy of mine get popped with 80k of weed, doesnt mean I smoke or sell drugs. Jackson knows some "gang related people" doesnt mean he is doing it himself. Quote:
DeSean Jackson, who has never actually done anything illegal, is a bad influence on Josh Gordon?
Armonty Bryant was caught selling drugs during his college team's practice, is a good influence?
Joe Haden (like Gordon) was suspended for for using illegal substances, is a good influence?
Desmond Bryant Hulked a stranger's door off its hinges while drunk, is a good influence?
Greg Little gets several traffic violations (a problem he shares with Gordon), is a good influence?
Josh Gordon is a grown man. He can make decisions on his own. If he is going to screw up again he is going to do it on his own, no matter if Jackson is on the team or not.
What's the point of bringing in players like Dansby and Whitner as veteran leaders if we can't bring in troubled players like Jackson (who has never actually got in trouble)?

I get ya.
But are you disruptive at work? Have you ever turned in sub-par performance for an extended period because you felt you should be making more money? Do you argue with bosses and make yourself a distraction?
Something someone else brought up and is concerning to me... none of his teammates have stood and spoke up in favor of him yet. If that remains to be true then I'm thinking a whole lot of the team didn't care for him as a teammate.
How does a player get himself to that point with his teammates who otherwise would have an "all for one - one for all" mindset regarding a team of brothers.
While we do need talent we don't need distractions and he's shown since 2008 that he is a distraction. The new guy dealt with it for a year and he's had enough of it.

May be they're afraid to be cut and speculated about and slandered as well. lol
I just don't get why nobody traded for him. As fans, we must not see what the coaches see and talk about..... Probably a couple weeks ago his trade value was too high, and with whatever the Eagles found out, they want to distance themselves from him ASAP

When it seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true. A pro-bowler no one wanted to trade for? Obviously, the Eagles weren't looking for a team to give up the farm for a guy that they were also willing to flat out release. Plus, his current contract at $10 million a year? Granted now that he's out pounding the pavement...he might take less. And I sure do believe so many people on here are absolutely correct. He might get a one year deal some where but odds are he'll be a free agent the year after. This just makes me so uneasy. Maybe I'm gun shy from our past poor decisions. Maybe I'm looking at some other 'superstars' let go by teams who ended up in prison or more trouble than they could handle. Gang affiliations that are tied to homicides? Sounds like he would make a fantastic Raven.
Never have hope. You won’t be disappointed.

If I were the Browns GM, or any other team, I call his agent to see what he wants and if he's interested in my team. If the numbers are okay and he wants to talk, I'd try signing him.
For the most part, his biggest NFL problem is that he always wants to be the highest paid WR in the league. His off field crap isn't much to worry about until, well, there's something to worry about. The coach or someone in the organization needs to ask him to stop dropping gang signs on the field and remind him about picking the right friends. That's all you can really do.
When he's being paid well he's happy and not a distraction. It would be great to have a clause in the contract to have him be paid the average of the Top7 WRs in the league and it be a 5 year deal. At any point the team could dump him but he's got the guarantee of always being paid like an elite WR.
I think he'll being signing with the Raiders or someone on the left coast. Just as long as he doesn't sign in the AFC North I'll be fine.

to answer your questions....yes I have been upset at work. yes i have turned in sub-par days due to feeling unappreciated. have i gotten into it with management and supervisors? yes i have. I work in the oilfield its dog eat dog out here, and if you dont stand up for yourself and what you believe in nobody will for you. Ive changed companys and now work for a company who pays me what i feel im worth and treats me with respect.
Its not a bad thing to want to provide a good life for my wife and two little girls. I had a hard time training people who was making significantly more than I was. Its a smack in the face to me who has nearly 7yrs in the oilfield to train a guy who has 7 days in, and making just as much or more than I am. So i left that company for greener pastures.
Maybe this is how Jackson feels, he just turned in a great year and got cut for it? truth of the matter is we dont know all the facts. the facts are he was due 10+mil this year, and was unhappy with the eagles. he now has a chance to go to a new team who values his talents and respects what he does on the field. The guy is going to be motivated to prove phila wrong....just as I have been to prove my old company wrong. and so far so good.
I would offer him a solid deal, and see where his intrest level is at.

How is being missing or being late for meetings not his fault? How is arguing w/the coaching staff not his fault?
Our young team celebrated too much when they got ahead in games [see the second Bengal game] and quit when things got tough in many, many games. The last thing we need is a self-centered, negative veteran influence.
This team needs a positive veteran presence almost as much as it needs a quarterback.
Btw---------Jackson did not get cut because he turned in a great year. He got cut because he is a jerk whose irresponsible actions made him more of a detriment to what Philly is trying to build than an asset.

Raiders doing "background work" on Jackson, lol: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...desean-jackson/They better do a lot of it... I'm sure what they'll find from point of views by teammates and etc is going to just be lovely. Go on Oakland, he's the perfect attitude for your team!

From the link... Quote:
Fans in Oakland have made their desire to add wide receiver DeSean Jackson to the Raiders roster clear,...
That's the mindset of the losing culture on teams who have been losing a long time. Fans grasp at any possibility to add talent to their team hoping for something to put them over the top of past losing seasons.
...also from the link...
Quote:
Breer (of NFL Network) believes the team is aware of the possibility that bringing Jackson back to his home state and the area where he attended in college may result in “added risk” of things going poorly off the field.
That's not the team, but an NFL dude, still, those who are shy of Jackson's potential risk are wary.

JC...We all knew when Desean came out of Cal he had a lot of labels affixed to him... Poor attitude, iffy work habits, diva...we all know how WRs in the league are on of the most troubled positions as infectious the diva labels start passing along...teams front office players fans all get sick of it after awhile...desean was making superb money; nearly $11 mill every 365 days...I can see why he's a distraction...I didnt believe the gang hype until I read deeper...not saying I'm correct I work as a recovery coach...a lot of the troubled youth I work with...have similar stories and backgrounds as desean... And I won't go into alloborate detail...but I would NOT be surprised at all to find him somehow involved in the gang notion...he's dear friends with a lot of them, he flashes the signs as one, writes in their associated patterns....lends them his vehicle...not a straight path by any means...I'd be wary of the connection and exposure this would bring...and trust me I am a desean Jackson fan as I've purchased autographed memorabilia of him...but digging deeper...you can also see a lot of behavioral patterns as well

j/c Jackson maybe a locker room cancer and I'm not endorsing him to be picked up by the Browns. Even still, he deserves to be judge fairly. No one has posted the following link so I'm putting it on record. LAPD release statement: no connection betweeen D Jacskon and gang killings Where I come from the LAPD is notorious for their policing techniques. So for them to essentially "clear" Jackson of involvement in any of their open investigations is noteworthy.

I am glad he got released, he is a PRO football player, act like it. The nfl structures their business to make these guys millionaires, WE pay for it. The expectation is that you carry yourself as a pro on and off the field, Desean does not do this and this why he is unemployed. He has been a problem and apparently does not take his profession seriously. It is more important to flash gang signs during games, own a record label which screams CRIP, and hangs out with guys with serious criminal backgrounds. Due to the nature of my employment, I have been involved with gang members for over 18 years and actually teach staff recognition and tactics of these idiots. I wouldn't touch this guy with a 50 foot pole. It is true he might not be "officially" a gang member but when you have a business which employs, promotes, and accepts money/ business from these people, you are furthering their criminal lifestyle. Their money is not earned in the normal 9-5 fashion(obviously). Good for the Eagles for dumping this moron. I guess he missed the rookie symposium which the league spends big bucks to educate and guide the rooks so they don't do this dumb crap.

That is sad. Jackson has literally done nothing wrong.
The Eagles were going to cut him anyway, waited for the story, and then cut him so that they had an excuse.

PacMan Jones was never involved in a murder either.
Neither was T.O.
Or Ochocinco.
All model citizens, wonderful teammates and pillars of their organizations.
Is that the standard now?
So long as a player hasn't killed anyone he's not a distraction.

pretty much. as many criminals as we already have in the NFL, cutting a player because he's a diva is dumb. he's a big piece of the reasons they even sniff the playoffs.
we've had diva's on our squad. two of them. crazy thats the best record we had on our team, isn't it.
but nah...lets be the good guys right? good organizations know how to deal with diva players.
but its cool, lets keep being the moral victory team with a 4-12. 5-11 record instead of grabbing elite talent and making he playoffs.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

No, the standard remains that if there is no evidence that you have committed a crime that you not be stained by tenuous allegations. And when the police say that you are in fact NOT a suspect in any criminal investigation that people who are finger pointing should stop doing so immediately. We're talking about suspicion of felonious criminal activity. Don't try now to conflate that with being a bad team mate.
To make it crystal clear. Acknowledge that the rush to label Jackson as a gang affiliated suspect in real crime is far, far different than being late to some meetings, arguing with coaches and complaining about your contract in the press.

j/c Jackson maybe a locker room cancer and I'm not endorsing him to be picked up by the Browns. Even still, he deserves to be judge fairly. No one has posted the following link so I'm putting it on record.
LAPD release statement: no connection betweeen D Jacskon and gang killings
this will be ignored. everybody already has their opinion set on him. its basically fact now as far as their concerned.
It's not being ignored. In fact, I could care less about the gang affiliation rumors. It's about this:
--he missed meetings -he was late for neetings --he argued w/coaches --he pouted when his contract was close to being up --he is a distraction for his team.
I'm sick of the reverse discrimination that guys like you and Guard are throwing in our faces. African Americans receiver more latitude than any other race in today's society. Quit your freaking crying?
I am so sick of people crying about racial discrimination every time a player gets released. It's not about the gang crap. It's about him being late for meetings. Missing meetings. Dogging it when his contract was up.
Should he be allowed to miss meetings just because he is African American? Get the hell outta here w/that crap.
Look here, I am married to a minority. I am not prejudiced. But, I think many minorities are prejudiced and I am sick of you crying about it every time an issue comes up.
This has nothing to do w/race. It has everything to do w/this guy demonstrating undesirable behavior.
Where I come from the LAPD is notorious for their policing techniques. So for them to essentially "clear" Jackson of involvement in any of their open investigations is noteworthy.
