We lost because Jake Westbrook sucks, Mark Shapiro sucks, Travis Hafner is a dime a dozen, Barfield sucks, bring back Ronnie. Its going to be a long long season. Keeping checking back though, as those reason will change weekly.

LMAO, yeah..had sense to spout babble based on MY OPINIONS...yeah thats tearing apart. gmafb you naive kids on here..for real, i never said the sky was falling, or that we wouldn't do well this year. I am not that stupid. I merely stated given our current roster and where I percieve our weakness being mainly defense atm, what i thought we should have done with the resignings. Meaning, CC can dominate a game and pick his defense up and overcome shoddy defense. Westbook can't, he can't overcome errors and shoddy defense. Being the type of pitcher he is, he puts the ball in the defense's hands. which i may add is weak as hell, thus, he's going to be pitching quite a bit of batting practice this year. And no, i didn't say that hafner would continue to have a bad year, but you can't deny the fact he isn't seeing the ball nearly as well as last year and pitchers know how to pitch him now, think he comes out like he did last year and talks to resign don't get heated up, no, they get shelved until he starts producing on a more consistent basis. And barfield, yeah he's young, but that's not an excuse, he just isn't pulling his weight yet. The reason why i don't think we should have signed westbook so early is because if you believe shapiro and watch many Buffalo games, we have some pretty good studs on the pitching staff that need to get up here to help us out. So saying someone was "tearing my post apart' ohhh, that makes me all squirmy inside, gmafb. Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean that is right or wrong, its just that. Thats why we post on these things and aren't GM's of pro teams, esp logdog, he must really thing he's superior in knowlege in all things sports, which is really funny. but those are his opinions, whether or not i agree, oh well. But to talk down to someone for thier opinions is stupid and childish, which i believe to be the case

Yeah, your opinion is that Travis Hafner and Jake Westbrook are dime-a-dozen players. So it is impossible to prove that they are not? Quote:

He has always been this type of pitcher. For that matter, some of the best pitchers are that type of pitchers. Greg Maddux pitches to contact. Glavine to a lesser extent. Power pitchers are great, don't get me wrong. However, you can't have a rotation of 5 power pitchers because after a game of seeing 95-97 consistently, it becomes much easier to hit the second time around. Sinkerball pitchers are becoming more common, especially on teams that have good infield defense and/or good hitting parks.
Quote:
if you believe shapiro and watch many Buffalo games, we have some pretty good studs on the pitching staff that need to get up here to help us out.
There are two real pitching prospects in the scheduled Buffalo rotation, Adam Miller and Fausto Carmona. Each of them have plus-stuff and at least decent composure. The rest of that rotation is Jason Stanford (30 y/o), Jeff Harris (33 y/o), Rafael Perez and Brian Slocum. Perez and Slocum may have major league careers ahead of them, but it would be almost certainly in the bullpen. So, there are two pitching prospects that could be ready in a year. One would take Paul Byrd's rotation spot, the other would take the spot of whichever pitcher leaves during free agency (looking almost certainly like Sabathia). So, is there that much excess pitching that if you can sign an above-average major league pitcher to a team-friendly deal, that the team should pass on it? After Miller and Carmona you are looking at Chuck Lofgren at AA, who is probably at least 1.5, if not 2, years away from the majors. Sabathia is going to command HUGE money, money that a mid-market team cannot afford, unless they have nothing around them. Westbrook agreed to a very team-friendly deal for less years and less money than he otherwise would have received and you are complaining about it!?!
Quote:

Do you honestly think that, magically, in his sixth season, pitchers have found out how to pitch Hafner? I've heard of sophomore slumps based on pitchers figuring out a hitter (see Peralta, Jhonny), but I cannot recall a single incident of pitchers finally figuring a hitter out in his sixth season. I'd propose that it is incredibly more likely that Pronk simply has gotten off to a slow start. Nothing more sinister, no "diminishing skills", simply a slump. Coincedentally, not to predict anything, but Hafner is a streak hitter. Last night he went 2-4 with a HR. It would not surprise me at all to see him hit .450 with 4 HRs in the next 7-10 days. He is that type of hitter.

Its nice to be appreciated. Look, you made your comments that I disagreed with. I provided some statistical backing and you came back with more opinions that you don't back up outside trying to cite these 10 games to start the season. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you want to bring some opinions on the Indians, at least be able to back them up and discuss them rather than take a perceived high ground and expect to be unchallenged. I don't know everything about the Indians, the front office or the farm system. I believe I know more than most about the Indians, but that doesn't mean that my opinions weighs in any more than yours.

early on, it's looking like Major League all over again...
EDIT: Major damage control, 1-0 Yanks, could have been a lot worse.

4-2 Yankees.
Now we DO resemble Major League.
This is why I HATE being the small market team.

Yup.
I was harping on it last year that we need to fix that about as much as we do our pullpen. But of course we didn't, aside from Barfield. Marte's just another Peralta out there in terms of fielding ability.
Forget the bats, we need gloves.
Speaking of bats, what's with the power outage?

So...... did we win?
Not even close! 9-2 Yanks.
If you scroll to the top and see the probably starters for the series, you'd figure the Indians were going to at least take 2 of 3. Unfortunately, the Yanks have an awesome shot at the sweet with our worst starter going tomorrow. We'll be lucky to get a win with Carmona on the bump with that lineup.
A-Rod is en fuego!!!
Oh yeah, if you can turn on the White Sox game. Buehrle is throwing a no-no through 8. Only a walk to Sam Sosa. He just blew through the 8th with a clean 1, 2, 3.

Another thought, not so much baseball related as it is atmosphere related.
The Jake needs some boost to it's atmosphere. As I was watching the game, I realized that the sound at Yankee Stadium is booming. I'm a fan of loudness at a stadium, and ceremonial things like music playing when a run scores.
Granted, the on-field product is what matters most, but considering attendance is down, the Indians should probably do more to enhance the stadium experience, kinda like what the Cavs did with The Q.

Down already. 1-0 Yanks (about to start top 4). Carmona has kept the game close but has been flirting with danger each inning (3 IP, 4 H & 1 BB). The bats better wake up soon!

Ok, make sure you're sitting down. I have some shocking news....Casey Blake popped out weakly to first with the bases loaded and one out. I know, I know you think "Clutch" when Casey is up but he didn't come through this time. Maybe next inning.
[/sarcasm]
And there it is again. Runner on third with less than 2 outs and we get NOTHING! Blake can't get a sac-fly and Peralta leaves them loaded. You can't let Rasner off the hook with Carmona pitching. Heck, you can't pass on that opportunity when playing against that Yankee lineup. Ugh. I want 8 more Sizemore's.
Tied 1-1 (going to bot 4)

Casey Blake up AGAIN with the bases loaded less than two outs (this time with no outs - 6th inning)......let's see what happens. I'm guessing GIDP.

Blake lined out to third. That makes him 0-13 with runners in scoring position for this year! GO AWAY! YOU STINK!
Sorry, he just irks me.
And Peralta and Rouse follow his lead! DAMN! That's two innings with the bases loaded with 1 and 0 outs and they got ZERO freaking runs! Sac-fly, FC, walk, HBP, heck GIDP to get a run across.....SOMETHING! We couldn't score important runs last year and we can't this year. Horrible series in NY!

The Yanks couldn't get to Blake in that situation. One too many people in front of him.

He only needs one more out. Too bad he has to face the heart of the order with the winning run at the plate. Dude had a 4-run lead to start the inning.
ONE MORE OUT!

Now he's gotta pitch to A-Rod with the winning run on 1st (tying run on 2nd).
This is only going to end badly. You know A-Rod is due being 0-4 right today. He's been too hot recently to choke here. Ugh......this is a game we can't lose.
