1987 Chevrolet Celebrity CL Thinking of putting historical plates on it... Not an actual picture of my car. Mine has a vinyl roof, a light dent above the front wheel well and a little bit of rust along the bottom rear edge of the front door. Other than that, after a night drinking I could climb in this one and explain to the attending officer that I can't understand why my key won't start it.

Once upon a time I had the Pontiac version of that car ..... the Pontiac 6000 STE model. It had suede leather, and all of the available options.
I had a guy hit my car, fixed it. had it painted, took this girl I was seeing out to lunch the day after I picked the car up, and a guy backed into me in the parking lot. I never fixed it again after that.

Cool thread as I love cars and motorcycles...ah, just any kind of machine. I enjoy the physical act of driving.
Me: 2004 Acura TL w/150k miles, manual, short shift kit, still runs like it did the day I bought it 2013 Fiat Abarth Turbo
Wife: 2014 Ford Expedition
I've owned many motorcycles as well over the years, but I've been down twice. I recently had a bug up my butt about getting another, but my wife is against it...especially since we are new parents. My parents are also against it...although my dad rides...go figure. As a bribe to not buy a bike my father gave me his new Fiat Abarth. I told him I was going to turn around and sell it....I didn't really have any interest in the car. But after I got it and started driving it, I have fallen in love with this "clown car" as my wife puts it. It is a blast to drive, especially when you modify it. I found a shop in LA that specializes in them and will be taking it their in the next month to dump some serious money into it. I have owned a 2005 BMW M3, and the Fiat Abarth is comparable in enjoyment.
Also have my eye on the new GTI coming out shortly. After being a manual snob almost my whole life, I have fallen in love with dual clutch automatics. The DSG transmission in the GTI is pretty sweet.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Let's see, I drive my bike and take the MetroRail to work in Miami, and my wife drives our 2010 Hyundai Sonata. We live right next to a station and my work is also next to a station, and hers is a couple of miles from a station, hence why I take it. When we lived in Montgomery, the dealership had a hell of a sale on used ones that lined up with the announcement that the plant in Montgomery would be ramping up production to meet demand. Pretty awesome factory, and ours came out of it. It makes it makes it more interesting actually visiting the plant that your car came out of.
And we just started saving up to get a second vehicle.

Pontiac 6000. Reminds me of when I worked at a Pontiac dealership. Somebody called the parts department (I didn't take the call - didn't work in the parts dept.)......anyway, guy called in and said he wanted to order a "leaner for his Goolie" After a while talking with the guy, our parts guy determined the gentleman actually wanted an armrest for his 6000LE (the "6" on the cars did slightly resemble a G. A leaner for his Goolie.

How does the Z run, still well?
204000 miles and yup, she runs amazing. Started it the other day.. Cranked right up.. Didn't take it out yet, but as of October 2013, it ran great'

LOL,, I had a 6000 STE also, I think 1985 if memory serves me correctly. Nice car, lots of fun to drive. Suede seats and like you, all available options. But honestly, the car wasn't all that quick.. In fact, it was slow. But it was fun to drive... Mine was Silver.

Mine is a 6cyl. More than enough power for such a small car. My son drives a '07 Focus. He thinks mine runs like a V8. But he's 25, what does he know about a V8? An old V8 muscle car would have him a ditch 40 yards from the stop sign.

I have a 2006 F150 4 door with a bed cap. Just turned 100K on the odometer, and it runs like a dream. I figure its good for another 150K miles, as long as I take care of it. The main thing - its paid for. My all-time fave car was a used 1968 Ford Fairlane coupe that I bought in high school. It was canary yellow, but I got an Earl Scheib $29.95 paint job on to make it look like this (minus the chrome wheels): It ran a 302 V8 that nearly went airborn when you punched it - fastest car, off the line, I ever drove. I remember a decked out GTO pulling up next to me at the light at W50th and Clark Ave - it was black with chrome everywhere. He rumbled his quad and his glasspacks at me, and we did "the stare". I punched it at green and nearly drove him into a parked car about a 100 yards up the road. Saw him flipping me off in the rearview, but noticed he stayed beind me at the next light. I remember wishing I'd had a certain girl with me when that happened ... good memory.

'02 CR-V. Great gigmobile... I can fit the entire quartet plus instruments/music stands if needed.
'09 Honda Fit for The Missus. Unreal amount of interior space in a car with such a small footprint. Great gas mileage, too.

You can bow down to me, then. Had a 2007 WRX STi. Man, that car was great.
Absolutely flew when you wanted it to, and just enough room in the trunk for my hockey gear (sticks had to go in the backseat). I got rid of it when I moved to California and stopped doing autocross.
Now I'm driving an Acura RDX. I love it, but I also miss the Subaru. The turbo 4cylinder in the RDX usually gets the job done. I've put about 120k miles on it in the 4.5 years I've owned it, and haven't had any issues whatsoever.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I could be wrong, but I believe that they used the same block to create the 3.1 ltr V-6 that was used in the Z-24 and other "sporty" cars. The 2.8 was a 12 valve engine, and IIRC, the 3.1 was a 24 valve engine, with multi point fuel injection.

That car's just getting broken in.
It's funny. When I was a kid, 100,000 miles meant that a car was just about done. If you were lucky, you might get to 110,000 or maybe 120,000 .... but that was about it.
Today, with proper maintenance, you can trip 200K pretty easily. I suspect that at least part of that is that we tend to drive our cars more today than we did back in the 70s and 80s ...... and cars are more likely to rot out than wear our ...... but the engineering going into these cars today is far superior than anything back then.
2 sided galvanized steel is a miracle for today's cars. No more trying to spray crap into the crevices of your car and then watch it rust anyway.
The other co-biggest difference is that I could throw an engine or transmission in my car by myself when I was a kid. The wiring harness for the engine was simple, with about 20 or so connections ......and the transmission bolted in easily. Setting the timing was easy with a timing gun, and the transmission was also easily adjusted. Today you have probably twice or 3 times as many electrical connections, (or more) and you need a computer just to set everything right.
Back then redoing the head gaskets was simple. I redid the head gaskets and valve cover gaskets on 2 or 3 of my first cars. It was simple. Today you almost need a PHD to do it, lol
It's even more amazing that I did that kind of stuff without the benefit of the internet.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

The 3.1 was actually a pretty damn good engine. It had a lot of torque, and would get you off the line in a hurry. It was a really nice engine, with 24 valves and multi point fuel injection. IIRC, they also added DOHC about that same time. It was also very reliable. It was one of the few things that GM got really right at that point in time.

I agree - the 3.1 was a good engine.
Let's face it, a 6000 LE or STE.......they weren't sports cars, so "slow" is a relative term.
For some reason, I'm thinking GM did make a 2.8 liter 6 cylinder and put it in the S-10 blazers and GMC Jimmy. (the early 2 door models). That engine was a dog, and they ended up going with the 4.3 liter 6 cylinder which was a great engine for those types of vehicles for quite a long time. Still not a "quick" vehicle, but again, look what they were put in.....

I had a '91 Isuzu Trooper that had a 2.8L V6.The dealer told me it was a Chevy / GM engine. Not very fast, but a 5-speed manual made it jumpy enough to get on the freeway, no sweat.

Just clicking... 2012 Ford Focus sedan. Had it for six months and love it. It's the first car I've owned that was assembled in the 21st century, haha. Can't complain about getting 35 mpg on the highway and average 29mpg combined since I've bought it. It's high up on the miles (85k) but it's supposed to be a highway car. Unfortunately the heated seats might make me a candy ass who's afraid to skip that luxury, from here on out.

That 4.3 was a tremendous engine. It got solid mileage while still delivering performance.

2005 Chevy Blazer. Just cracked 100k. It's in excellent shape and the engine is solid.
I had my day with Formula Firebirds, Grand Prix GTP turbocharged, Chevelle SS and all.
But at 55, I like something that is a little more practical and economical. It has the large V6 with plenty of power and acceleration. Much like YTown, I have some pretty severe spinal issues and the Blazer is very easy for me to get in and out of.
I bought it three years ago and it has been extremely reliable. I got one helluva deal on it and its book value today is almost as much as I bought it for three years ago. I simply couldn't pass it up at the time.
