Maybe they gave us the first bye week because we are doing stadium renovation, in the super off chance something goes wrong?
Side note, by my count we are 1 of five 5 teams without a prime time game.

Why not us? Why not THIS year?
That being said, and I'm sure Mr. Haslam is quaking in his boots about this, this season is going to dictate whether we get season tickets again or not.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I'm gonna miss playing the Steelers last game. Been hoping for a turn of fate and that being a game that ends the season right.

As people always do, you are basing this on our team from last year, and basing it on the opposing teams record from last year. Not knocking you............but, in today's nfl, we can't do that.

Exactly.
Heck, we beat the Ravens at home last year. Why would anyone automatically assume we'll lose at home to them this year?

We beat them with Campbell starting. I don't know why people automatically assume losses. Hoyer looked like he would have gotten us at least 8 wins last year as long as he stayed healthy.
That reminds me, did someone teach him to slide in the off season?

What the hell do you need a bye week after 3 games for?
Stupid.
I agree....I think the NFL could shut down half the leage in week seven minus one and half in week nine, plus one.
I wish they'd just get rid of the stupid BYE week altogether. It's for pansies!

Interesting. I've always called them baltiwhore, seeing as they whined for 13 years before selling their souls.

That's the spirit, I am glad we open up on the road in Pukesburgh, the pressure ain't on us to win that one. Let's set the tone and beat their ass, get the ball Rollin heading into a 2 game homestretch. I ain't scared of the Ravens or Saints. They have plenty of issues on their teams to sort out, maybe more tan us. No Sproles is gonna hurt Bree's, they are very 1 dimensional and the O line is very questionable. The Ratbirds are getting old and have more holes than 1 draft can fix. They haven't drafted as well as they are given credit for, they have a lot of stinkers lately.

So we can fire the new coach if he goes 0 - 3.
First we started firing coaches after two years. Then one. Do the math ...

Yea, I will be very upset if we go 1-5 in the division as he predicts...
A few thoughts on the schedule, it does seem to start tough and finish tough with the easier part in the middle..
If by some chance we are around .500 and in playoff contention, finishing at Carolina and at Baltimore will make us earn a playoff spot for sure.. though it's hard to tell about Carolina, they were tough last year but they lost a lot of people.
Not a single game outside the eastern time zone, that's good.
I like the bye in week 4. We have a new coach and will be relying on a number of new players including rookies.. so get 3 games in then take a week off to make adjustments and corrections. Would much rather have a week to do that in the first quarter of the season than in the 3rd quarter of the season. For an established veteran team and staff, yea, I'd much rather have it later to get healthy and make a playoff run... but in our situation I think earlier is better.
As for Ws and Ls.. I'm not writing anything off as an L just yet.. win the first one and then go from there.

Agreed, that first game against Pitt will set the tone for the season.
Hopefully not if we can't beat 'em.
That's a tough first game. Normally they make mincemeat of us.

How exactly do you know what I'm basing this on?
You then take in what had happened this offseason. We have completely changed our offense and defensive playbook. We don't know who our starting QB is yet.
You just think were ganna walk into Pitt and win? Beat Drew Brees?
I see 7 very winnable games as of right now. Even before the draft. Based on the fact that teams win some they shouldnt and lose some they shouldnt. I feel confident in saying 7 wins.
But also to ignore what happened last year is ignorant. As is assuming you know what I'm basing something on.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Plus on the Sunday of the Bye week (9/28), the Indians will be playing Tampa Bay here, in what will hopefully be a meaningful game. I know a lot people here don't care much about that, but I like that at least there will be something to watch that Sunday.

Yes, but things are different now. We have a QB that is the first one since Kosar that can hit a WR in stride. We have the leading WR in the NFL. We have gotten rid of two bad QBs, and a bad RB. We haven't even had the draft yet. I just prefer to think positively about my team. At the very least, I'd like to see them play first before I assume they'll lose the first 3 games of the season, and fire the coach at the bye.

As I said, I would too if our realistic goal this year was a deep playoff run.. but think of it this way, with our new coach and young players if we start off slow, and we might.. would you rather have to wait until week 8 to have a week off to really try to fix it or would you like the chance to try to fix it after week 3? I've heard a number of coaches say that it's really hard to do a lot of "fixing" during the season because each week is totally focused on the next opponent and the real tweaks coming during the bye week.. so if we have things to fix, and there is a good chance we will, let's do it in week 4.
Hopefully, prayerfully, wishfully, the bye week won't be about changing QBs.

We don't know who our starting QB is yet. Not a big thing but still why say "WE" and include me in your opinion. Quite frankly I (me, myself, yours truly) know who our starting QB is. Its Hoyer... its beyond me how you do not see this. Did we scramble to get a starting QB. Did we express any other action than HOYER is our starting QB...if we take a rookie at #4 and he beats Hoyer out - God Bless him.
You are correct there is the X factor of new O n new D...how well will we transition into it. Will Shanahan grasp this and dummy down the entire playbook for all and then add more n more and we GET IT. Having a QB who gets it...not just knowing the plays but feels the plays understand the play and the other plays that it sets up. I "think" Hoyer is such a QB. Why, btw he should and would start for us.
Week 4 bye...if Hoyer is not the guy we think...errr "I" think he is lol but we cause he will start. We as in Staff. Its a good time to transition the rookie to start his era.
But I think week 4 bye is necessary to calm all the players down and regroup our focus as we go 3-0 BABY!!!

Probably, but maybe not. Now that I have season tickets I get to see quite a few games every year. What I don't get to do is watch games at the house very often. If not going up to Cleveland to watch games I am headed out to the bar to watch the game.
I know both the Titans game and the Falcons game will be on local TV. Cooking up a big pot of soup or something and watching those games from my easy chair sounds pretty appealing.

Opening Lines for Week 1 By Will Brinson | NFL Writer April 23, 2014 9:43 pm CT Browns at Steelers (-5)Lot of respect for the Browns here? Or perhaps a recognition the Steelers aren't elite at the moment. They have deficiencies for sure and Cleveland could potentially exploit them. If the Browns add a wideout to pair across from Josh Gordon or a quarterback to throw to him (no offense Brian Hoyer) Pittsburgh could be vulnerable in the secondary. On the other hand, there is a major "big brother" factor here. Other games in the article.

BUT. . . .! We start playing for Pride sooner. That week is 9hopefully) too soon to heal anybody, but it might help us crush some problems. But win half of the first four, we are commanding notice! About half the fan base may stroke out if we deliver a thrashing week one.

Home Opener, was 2007. I don't care if we lose on the road, but when I am in the stands I want to win.
So naturally New Orleans is coming to town.
