There is another aspect you need to take into account when only going back 5 years...

The team around the QB...

That's exactly what I'm taking into account. Unless the QB is a #1-type selection, then his chance to be successful in the NFL has way more to do with the team around him than the QB himself. As I'm showing with the history here, you have just about the same chance as getting a successful QB at #4 as you do at #34 ... and most of it depends on the "team around him".

So if that's the case ... then shouldn't we be focusing on drafting a better "team around him"?

Yes, If and only if, they have not identified a QB...in which case, I believe they should do what it takes to move up and get that QB.

Okay, I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, but this makes no sense to me. If we have not ID'ed a QB, then why would we trade up to take one? Why would you trade up to take somebody you don't believe in?

I think I agree with your premise, which seems to be don't reach for a QB when there are other more sure things on the board...

But at some point you have to take a QB.. and I think the team this QB will walk into is in pretty good shape. There are always going to be positions that could use an upgrade but at some point, you have to draft the QB.

I agree, at some point you have to pull the trigger. I hope it's Carr, just so I can watch Vers. explode right before my eyes.

Oops...trying to look through these boards at a busy day at work, somehow half my post didn't make it through...

What I meant to say was only if they have not identified a QB...In which case, I don't think they should draft one in the first 3 rounds.

IF THEY HAVE, I believe they should do what it takes to move up and get him..

I can actually agree with that ... and I also think it's sort of the reason that you see the successful QBs go in the first 3 picks.
