If the guy was smart.. haha... he would sell the team right now. Considering they are good for the first time in a long time and have a pretty good roster, the value of the team is likely to never be higher than it is right now.
It is illegal to tape a person without telling them, the woman obviously has an agenda.. you could tell by the way she baited him and led him through the conversation....
That said, it appears that the words did come out of his mouth.. and for that there is no excuse, no matter how or why it happened.
He had an NAACP award due to the money he donates. He'll probably fix this situation with donations to Sharpton, Jackson, and the NAACP, although he'll have to make his donations to the NAACP in secret, now that they've returned his original bribe money.
This might actually be the publicity this guy needs to sell this crap team that finally got good for a year.

the issue, when you get deeper into it though, is that the few racist that don't want the times to change have some crazy amount of money to influence decisions in this country. eventually they will die out.

I teach as well at a separate facility (school, not incarceration) with SED kids. The ratio is 10/0 AA to W. These kids come from inner-city and they are very aware of the inequalities.
Of course they want to blame everyone but themselves, and to be honest I don't see how that's any different from anybody else.
These kids, as most, are frozen in the moment. They are incapable of seeing the future and the past is evidence of their mistreatment.
The goal is to teach them how much control they give others and how to responsibly control themselves. Some get it and others may never get it.
To tell them they have as much opportunity as the kids in the next suburb over is like telling them the fairies will grant them any wish.
Our state has been funding schools in violation of the constitution forever. Their district can't afford to keep good teachers or to provide the ever increasing resources needed to help them to learn.
Research shows that children's brains develop as they are exposed to vocabulary. Middle class kids learn exponentially more vocabulary words than inner-city kids.
The politics of blame, is it the AA male or is it the system, goes around and around. Of course these kids are learning men don't matter and women are objects. The girls believe the same.
IMO to claim that's a choice, as some want to do, is ridiculous.
My kids fail to see "racism" as anything other than an opportunity to explain their failures and IMO I can't really blame them.
I guess the NBA is holding a presser this afternoon,, this could be interesting..

No, he's not being arrested, he's being tried in the court of public opinion. So I'm not sure on what grounds the NBA could force him to sell his team... but the fact that his sponsors are leaving the team like rats on a sinking ship and the fact that he would forever have trouble attracting free agents and would probably have draft picks refuse to go there is a much bigger problem for him.

I guess that was my point. I keep hearing all these calls for action against him. For what? On what grounds? I don't know if he will sell the team, but he will definitely have to step out of the spot light . For saying something in private that was between him and his GF/mistress.

I would imagine the NBA has some clause like most other leagues or businesses that you can be disciplined for "Conduct detrimental to the league" which pretty much allows them to punish you for anything that might make them look bad. The difference is that is usually applied to players as part of a CBA and does not apply to owners so it will be interesting. In fact I heard that the reason none of his other shenanigans (and there has been some) has gone unpunished is because David Stern said he didn't have the authority to punish him.

As for Sterling, We live in a free country for sure, and he is free to express his feelings privately or in public. To me the test is, are you willing to say it to the cameras. If you aren't, then don't say it in private either.
And his teams sponsors are free to run away (which I guess many have) and remove themselves from the situation. And his players are free to revolt and the NBA is free to take what ever action they deem necessary.
I'm pretty sure there is a code of conduct for owners as well. And I'm equally sure that the other owners (as Dan Gilbert has already done) will want to distance themselves from him.
So, the end result is, he's going to get shunned by sponsors, players, coaches and other owners (and probably his girlfriend/Mistress and Wife).
Dude is screwed up no matter how you slice it.

Like most other "problems" in Capitalism, I think consumers and workers hold a lot more power than they realize. Boycotts are extremely powerful, but Americans rarely use them. For some reason, political complaints are the action of choice. Puzzling.
I see sponsors are already taking action on this one. If fans and players follow suit, the owner won't have much of a business model.

I think he was being forced out regardless. He lost all his advertisors and his local TV money was going to dry up too as they wouldn't be able to advertise during their games. It was going to be the death by a thousand financial cuts.
But, I think Sterling takes the NBA to court over this issue or they find some middle ground way of him selling the team. If it goes to court, I think he would win there (but, eventually lose due to the issues I brought up above).
Personally I think after 80 you ought to get a get out of jail free card for putting your foot in your mouth. The filters just don't work as well as they used to.
