I hope the best for Johnny Cleveland and I will cheer my best for him. but What I dont understand is that how everyone is making excuses about his size/playing style..... he couldnt keep healthy in college. I'm uneasy on how he'll hold up in the pros. That is my biggest concern with him. He's an intelligent player but does have many mechanical issues.
And once again we drafted a QB that didnt play under center in college.
What are you talking about?????? Johnny played in every game in college!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello? Anybody out there????????
He played the second half of the season seriously banged up.
"As the injuries piled up toward the end of the season, the effect it had on his play became evident. Sumlin and Texas A&M don't often go into details about injuries so it's difficult to know how badly he was beat up at season's end. But there's no questioning his toughness; he played whenever he was physically able or found a way to get on the field. "
http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/76012/manziel-kept-focus-on-the-field-in-13
And he played through them. And he played VERY well through them.
So who cares?
you had a good run Hank.

He never missed a game for injury. Barely missed any snaps.
That is what makes message boards interesting. You always have the guy who doesn't know what he is talking about, talking like he does.
So I guess I'm the one who knows what he is talking about. Do some research before you criticize someone else.
He was beaten up big time last year. Was suppose to be sitting in a couple of games only to start at the last minute after he hurt his shoulder the first time.

That's what I think too. And unlike previous regimes, I don't think that Hoyer will be handed the job. Manziel will be given the opportunity to win the job. Likewise, Hoyer will have to win the job.

Exciting? Yes.
In the NFL, this is a Troy Polamalu pick 6 or a strip sack.
Sorry, you lose...Johnny has HUGE hands and doesn't fumble. The pass was questionable, but Johnny is the "it" this franchise has needed since Bernie. That's my Alabama team he was shredding for almost 500 total yards PERSONALLY in ONE game.........Nick Saban had a year to try and stop Johnny and WOOPS, he didn't.
"It" is an overused cheesy sports cliche used as a crutch by people who don't have an answer. Look up his performance versus LSU and get back to me.

Never said he wasnt a competitive.... he's actually very competitive more than most. I'm just leary of his durability. And I think that is a valid concern with his size, inexperience(2years college ball), and his play style.

For every LSU game or Missouri game you show me, I can show you Alabama and Duke.
The "it" factor is leadership. If this guy is a good player, he becomes the guy who spearheads the culture change in Cleveland. We started it with Dansby and Whitner, now Manziel.

I agree, he's gotta take NFL hits.
But to say he wasn't durable in college isn't true. He got banged up, but he was ultra durable and willing to play through injury. Those are the type of guys you WANT to win with.

The LSU game is what scares me the most. He faced a disciplined defense so when normal defenses would break down, letting someone open, LSU didn't. That's what a real NFL defense will be doing for most of the season.

They did stop him this year. They were 4 tds down in the fourth when Manziel led a comeback with 2tds against 2nd/3rd stringers. then added another td late against the 1st team that had been sitting and brought back into the game. check the timeline of the game. Throwing tds against benchwarmers down 4tds in the 4th is nothing to brag about

The Browns pulled off a trade after Manziel had waited nearly three hours to be picked. Fox's Jay Glazer reported on Twitter that the Minnesota Vikings were trying to trade up for Manziel and thought they had a deal with the Eagles, but the Browns called with a better offer -- their second-first round pick, the 26th, and a third-round choice.

Glad we ended up with your guy, you must be stoked.
I wanted Bridgewater or Manziel, Bortles and Carr didn't interest me. I think of Manziel and Bridgewater, Manziel will have a better shot at rising Cleveland with his attitude and media popularity; but Bridgewater might turn out more reliable.
I'm surprised we weren't linked to Manziel more in the offseason. Are comparisons to RG3 somewhat accurate?

I saw it to... reporter is a moron. Do you honestly believe that Haslam decided to push for JF because a homeless guy told him to? Come on man. I'm sure the homeless guy said it but that is NOT why we drafted JF. Reporter would not have been told by Haslam before the draft that we were targeting JF. No... the reporter reshaped the story to get a headline or simply misspoke. Either way he's an idiot.

No wonder I haven't watched more than a hour of ESPN, except for football games, over the past year or so.

I had the rest of the night to think about things and I slept on it.
1. Hoyer is the Starting QB before the season starts. no Questions. 2. JFB will probably be 4 on the Depth Chart (along with a history of other great QB's in the NFL started at the bottom) 3. Cleveland will be picked to make the playoffs. 4. I pray that JFB does not take one snap in the regular season 5. I pray so that he has time to learn properly. He has time to adjust and maybe he can beef up his core a little in the next 365 days. 6. I am going to support JFB even though I did not want him. I had a feeling before the draft we were going to get him. He is a Cleveland Brown. I am one of his biggest fans. 7. the trades we saw last night... really happened. Thank you Draft Day. 8. I love our secondary they became the legion of Dawgs. it makes it better knowing the talent level between Gilbert and what would have been there when we picked... (Roby) HUGE difference. 9. Since JFB is best friends with Lebron... maybe him can get him to come back and the city will explode. 10 I hope the team can work with his tendency to stand on his toes while in the pocket, and hitting his first read within three seconds.

Good post Toad.
I've loved JM - I taped every game that was on TV this past year cause I heard we had sent Farmer to watch him - I saw a QB who was improving on his technique from the previous year. A lot of the detractors on the TV geniuses was a game where he could not even hold a football because his thumb was so sore the day before the game. But played cause he knew it was his teams only chance to win. The kid has Guts!
The kid is a leader - some dawgs are fixed on the coincidence of the number 22 well yada yada - for the karma people there is an adage...Third time is the CHARM! spoken by another dawg on page one so there - the Karma stuff is nullified.
Football wise man I thought Teddy was going to be #1 not #32 but he was dropping like an anchor and when I looked at the poor workout I came away with one thought and fear...smallish hands and will forever have problems with the NFL football especially in bad weather.
I liked JM for #4 but always knew the NFL is biased and they do not take QBs under 6 feet in the first let alone early in the first.
The kid is going to developed the right way. Don't tell me about BQ sat...BQ pure and simply sucks. Weeden absolutely no comparison - 21 potential Super Star vs. Old man looking for a 2nd career.
I am so so happy and liked the fact that we traded up to get him. I cannot believe we got a whiner or two about not liking the ALL IMPORTANT 2nd Third round pick that we gave up to get THE GUY we wanted for our Franchise QB! huh!!!!
Between Banner and Farmer...thank you both of you - as you essentially Traded away Trent Richardson for JOHNNY MANZIEL!!!
Skrine was ok and progressing every season... NOW we got a #3 CB in Skrine who would start for the majority of the NFL teams. Big time pick. I am very excited for our young fans!
We are a team of destiny!!!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

I have the feeling that the media will be outraged if Manziel isn't our starter early on. I'm not sure how he will develop or how Hoyer will do in comparison. I'm still not entirely sold on Hoyer; I like the guy but there just isn't much history to predict the future with him. As it stands I will be pretty amazed if Manziel isn't our starter by week 10. It would have to be on the basis of coaches being very resilient to media pressures and our team getting a good number of wins with Hoyer at the helm. Do you guys see the amount of media coverage Manziel is getting? He's the star of this draft, having him sit on the bench is going to be a media storm if it happens

I think Manziel can play.
What I hope is he can learn. Learn how to slide and/or get out of bounds, that is! If he learns to stay healthy in the NFL I think he can be that franchise guy.

LOL.. at no point in the game was Alabama up 4 TDs.. they did have a 3 TD lead going into the 4th quarter, less than 2 minutes in A&M made that a 2 TD lead.. and if you think Alabama (and Nick Saban) is pulling their starters with a 3 TD lead at the beginning of the 4th quarter against the #6 team in the country, I've got a bridge to sell you.
The fact is that Texas A&Ms defense could barely slow down Alabama's offense, A&M had to score on almost every possession just to keep up. Manziel did throw 2 pretty costly interceptions in the game. It was not a perfect game by any stretch but there is no need to just make stuff up.. Saban pulled his starters.. Ha.. Saban doesn't pull his starters with a 5 TD lead over Western Kentucky, let alone a 3 TD lead early in the 4th against the #6 team in the country. Be real man.

I'm not sure why there's still this archaic wait and see approach with QB's. I think the stat is like, only 5 QBs sat and learned their offense in the first few years, Rodgers, Brady, Palmer, Rivers, Kaep, and Romo. So 6, and two of them shouldn't even count, but I'll give it to Brady and Romo. Basically, you know whether your QB is good by the end of the season.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. That game really turned me off to Manziel. He'll face that kind of disciplined defense in the NFL. Hopefully he learns how to deal with it.

There are enough examples of all kinds to defend your position, whatever it is... I can show you how QBs who start right away find success, and QBs who wait find success.. I can make an argument that the future QB of the Cleveland Browns is bagging groceries right now and show you Kurt Warner.. The thing is that you never know. Would Aaron Rodgers not be as good if he had been forced to start right away? Would Brady Quinn have been real good if he could have sat for 2 or 3 years behind a qualified veteran and not seen the field? Simple fact is that there is no way to know.
I just think that some guys can play the position and some guys can't.. and the situation they walk into is also extremely important.. and Manziel is walking into a pretty good situation.

Thank you btw for the sitting down theory as each and everyone of the 6 you mentioned can win Championships and are Franchise QBs. Look at the many, many that were thrown in there too soon if you ask me, especially with teams that weren't ready for a franchise QB...ergo Browns and Carr - I'd say thanks 6 out of 6 that is 100% but we know BQ sat so that kills the 100% thing.
Rivers sat and Brees was not lighting it up yet, ergo the #4 pick on Rivers but Rivers was one of those most ready to play in the NFL types. Yet it took a while cause Brees studded out of no where!
I think by taking him later there will not be that OUT CRY of start Johnny. Obviously if Hoyer struggles - we will see JM earlier than we expected to. But still just sitting a couple of games and seeing the way we implement a game plan prepare during the week - class room stuff breaking down our game their game. He will be way ahead than if he starts from game one.
Also there has not been ONE STARTING QB on day one as a rookie that didn't work with a Dummy down Playbook including the best to come along LUCK! In this day n age of amazing defenses and DC's a dummied down playbook is easy to game plan against and disguise coverages. Hoyer might not have the same raw skills of a JM but he GETS IT. He will or already has picked up on our new offense where the only thing we dummy down is because the rest of the team isn't ready for 202 version.
JM was build for the boot leg playaction pass O of Kyle!
Man we are a team of DESTINY!!!

Wanted to add something positive to the Manziel pick, so here goes. I respect this draftnik's opinion, although he's a little crazy and he has him no1: http://www.thehuddlereport.com/huddlenotes/huddlenotes.shtml1. QB Johnny Manziel – Texas A&M (CPM 77.7) It’s been quite amusing for me to listen to all the excuses used to downgrade Johnny in this draft. First it was his size, then arm strength, then off field issues (that were not criminal), then his commitment to the sport, then his running and play on the field that will cause him injuries. I think you should notice this about Johnny’s play this year: he did not “mail it in” because he was worried about injuries like other highly thought of draft choices.
