And I think either Pettine or Farmer mentioned the minute Bitonio was drafted that they were looking at him playing guard from the outset...
...So it's more than likely that's where he'll end up while having the flexibility/experience to play outside if the injury bug hits.

Personally, I think that he's 5 times the better player than Schwarz.
I always liked MS. I just read on the Browns home page that this staff is impressed with him. I know the old staff didn't seem to like him, but thankfully this staff has alot more sense. GO Browns

Oddly the team cut Chris Pressley pretty early on and he was the only true FB we had on the roster.
I imagine we'll run an offense similar to whatever the Redskins were running. I think they had an H back instead of the traditional fullback but I don't follow them very closely.

We still have Ray Agnew, don't we?
I think that we also still have Jourdan Brooks as well.

This much I do recall. It'd be more than surprising if he (or anyone) actually displaced Schwartz at RT.

Mitchell is a lot better than people think. He's still a borderline top 10 RT in this league. Norvs system asks a lot of OT with all the 7 step drops and he got beat without help when teams shifted their passrushers away from Joe. Hell even Joe had his worst year. I'm not concerned in the slightest. Mitchell will not be the weakpoint of the OL so he's not an issue. With all the quick drops and rollouts we are likely to see I think we'll have the top pair of bookends in the league this year.

we added a lot of zone stuff last year and it took the line awhile to get it. it will help with their progress this year.

I don't know if that's what he said, but he's been working exclusively at guard.. but it's early.
It may be the case that he's been working exclusively at guard but the Browns just finished their OTAs. When they come back in 6 weeks, they'll begin training camp and then we'll find out how things really begin to shake out.

Schwartz got more help than any offensive lineman I have seen in years. We always had a TE helping him. We had backs chipping on his side. Joe was on an island and got criticized by fans. Schwartz had 1-3 guys helping him on every play and he gets praised.

I think Pettine might have given a few clues over the last month about where he will play. He gave one subtle hint when he said we drafted him to play guard. He gave another when he he had him playing guard in mini camp and otas lol.

I like Schwartz, so you got one more to add to the group. I think he is better that people say around here.
Had a great rookie year. Didn't play as good in his second year. We'll see in in third year but I'm really not that worried.

Back to West ...... http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/06/browns_rb_terrance_west_on_ben.htmlBEREA, Ohio -- Browns running back Terrance West held his ground Thursday when informed that fellow back Ben Tate doesn't consider him much of a threat. Specifically, Tate said of the challenge from West that "there's nobody in that (running back) room that scares me'' and described the running back competition here 'really not anything.' Tate, the fifth-year pro signed away from Houston as an unrestricted free agent, also said that when he's on his game 'there's no one that can touch me or that's close to what I do.'' But West, the third-round pick from Towson, hopes to prove the veteran wrong. "Yeah, that's our job out here, to come out here and compete, push each and everyone forward to bring the best out of each other,'' said West. "That's what I'm here to do. I want to play. I want to be the starter, and I'm going to practice like a starter." West, who rushed for 2,509 yards and 41 touchdowns last year, knows he has to pay his dues. "Everybody had to be a rookie before they became a vet,'' he said. "I'm learning the playbook fast, and I'm feeling very good about it." West signed his contract on Wednesday, a four-year deal worth $2.796 million, including a $527,400 signing bonus. "When you play Pop Warner, when you play high school ball, when you play college, you're playing for free,'' he said. "Now it's a business and getting a check for it is amazing. But that's not going to change nothing. I've still got to take care of business on the field to get the next check." Fans coming out to training camp next month will notice West going hard every play and high-stepping in the open field. "Yeah, that's my signature move,'' he said. "I don't know, my body just takes over and does it. I don't even think about doing it. That's something I've been doing for a long time." He said the coaches haven't yet cautioned him about it. "They don't have a problem with it,'' he said. "As long as I make a person miss, they don't care. As long as I take care of that one-on-one and make them miss or run through them, they don't care. I've got my own thing.'' He admitted, "I'm not the fastest guy. I'm not the slowest guy. But I've got some good speed. Once I get past you, once I make a person miss, it's going to be hard for them to catch me. On the football field, it's all about angles, and I've been very good at taking angles." He predicted he'll separate from the pack once the pads come on next month. "Yeah, that's when you can see more out of me,'' he said. "That's when you can see the true players, when the pads come on. I break a lot of tackles, I make people miss, I can catch the ball and I can pass protect. They can see that now and it can push me forward to playing more." Despite the competition with Tate, the veteran has been helping the eager rookie. "Most of the backs, we help each other out,'' he said. "We push each other and we compete, but we also want to see each other succeed." It's not the quarterback competition, but it should provide some training camp sparks.

just clicking,
I figured this is as good of a thread to discuss this as any, but is anyone else tired of Ben Tates mouth? I dont like how he is comming off as arrogant, now I understand confidence in your skill set by why throw his teammates under the bus. I didnt like how he basically said everyone else is garbage on the team but himself. West has alot of potential to be a stud, maybe instead of coming off like a jerk he could have used the words we and us when talking about the run game this year. All i hear in his comments are alot of I and Me.

Tate was less than diplomatic, but this is football not diplomacy. West has been getting a lot of shine in the press the past couple of weeks. No one has been talking about Tate. The coaches are intentionally fostering a high degree of competitiveness. Different guys respond to that differently. Tate has professional pride and at the moment West is challenging that. I would have liked it to be a tad less caustic but I'm glad that Tate stated in no uncertain terms that his intention is to be the no. 1 RB. I'm equally glad that West retorted that he intends to be the starter and he is preparing to be the starter.

That's your take. I took it to mean he felt he was the best RB on the team. I don't want a guy that doesn't think that.... but that's just me.

I agree. He sounds like a jerk thus far. Hopefully, he is just coming across wrong and not really disrespecting his teammates. Remember, his comments about Manziel also sounded demeaning.

He is a jerk but those comments can really push guys like West and Crowell to shut him up, all though crowell might put a cap in his ass lol. Seriously though, these kids can push him clean off the roster if he isnt showing it early.

Actually this is exactly how I absorbed it when I heard the comments. 100% exactly. From what I hear, West could possibly beat out Tate... Mayock is really into West's game and etc. Either or, not sure Tate's exact meaning if there was one, but to me it seemed exactly as stated above. Everyone but me (in terms of the backs) stinks and doesn't come close to his game which Tate's game isn't really that defined (he played a season or whatever with injured ribs?) so again, another little dark and confusing comment there.
Truthfully if I was Dion Lewis, West, Piere or whoever else we have at RB - I'd be fired up x10 with that statements. It's not like Tate carries or has Adrian All-Day reputation.

Years ago Tiger said that when he has his A game, nobody can beat him.. and he took some grief for it even though he was 100% right. It wasn't an indictment of the rest of the tour, it was a belief in his own ability... Difference is that Tiger had already proven it to be true, now this guy needs to prove it's true... then it won't be an issue any more.

I think we're all over-analyzing everything here. To me, he just seems like a guy very confident in his own ability. He's been waiting awhile to show what he can do, and now he has an opportunity to do it. Two guys I work with are from Houston, and they both liked him a lot.
He basically said that when he came here, he wanted to show everyone that he is one of the best in the league. That's what he thinks he is.
I don't really think he meant it to bash anyone on the team. Just the way it came out. But I remember articles after he was signed as a free agent, him saying that he believes he's one of the best in the league, he's been waiting for his chance to do it, and here was the place where he could. I assume if you believe you're one of the best in the league, you'd also not be afraid of anyone else on your roster, not to mention two rookies.
I think this is just a case where the media, and everyone else, is making this out to be bigger than it is.

Here is the full extent of his comments: Quote:
"Truthfully, I don't look at it like that,'' Tate said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "You guys may see it like that, but there's nobody in that room that scares me. I'm just honest."
"Honestly I'm not worried about that, because I know when I'm on my game -- no disrespect to any other running back here -- but there's no one that can touch me or that's close to what I do," Tate said. "I battled in and out every day with what some people consider the best running back in the league in Arian Foster. I've seen the best. I went against him every day. I battled it, so this around here to me is really not anything."
"If I come in here and say, 'Oh, I've got this locked down,' and don't compete, that's how you lose your job," Tate said. "That's how you find your way out of the league fast. I'm a natural competitor.
"That's just in me. I went out there in Houston every day and tried to compete with Arian knowing I wasn't going to be the starter no matter what I did because he had already done things. So I'm going to naturally compete, and I hope all the other running backs want to compete as well."
“He’s a rookie, so he has his difficult moments,” Tate said of West. “He has his flashes of good moments, so right now I’m just there trying to help him out through every aspect of his game because this team is going to need both of us.”
I fail to see the issue here.

LOL You may not be old enough to remember the TV show where they said that.. Johnny Carson used to say it during many of his sketch comedy routines. There is also a song about it.

This is the part that was just very disrespectful and degrading to the Browns. He says his RB compeititon is really not anything. translation They are dog crap beneath my shoes and I am the great and power Ben tate, I was backup to Arian Foster.
"I battled in and out every day with what some people consider the best running back in the league in Arian Foster. I've seen the best. I went against him every day. I battled it, so this around here to me is really not anything."
