To me this isn't about exactly what happened, but the testing itself.
If two samples were tested and the average of the two was below the limit, he shouldn't be suspended for the test. To me, everything else is a non issue. The hearing is about the positive testing, not about any other issues.
Not his history, his friends or anything else. When the average of two tests show you were below the limit, I believe that speaks volumes.
The 70 passed tests do show he's not "an addict" like some have portrayed and jumped to the conclusion of.
I don't approve of him even being that close to a fail. I don't approve of his conduct on several occasions. But that's not what this hearing is about. People try to lump it all together yet that isn't what the hearing is about.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Been watching this over the last few months. My thoughts are this: If he's not doing anything to harm anyone else, or doing something that impacts performance in a positive way (ie hgh, roids) then it should never justify a full year ban/suspension. If it is a multiple offense, obviously he has a problem. so get him help. Worst thing you can do for someone that has an addiction is to leave them to their own devices. I don't think thats the case here. I truly think josh cares and he was doing what he was supposed to other than keep better company. I know guys get money and famous and they want to hang out with the same friends as before...Most of the time thats the worst thing, because they will eventually pull you down with them. You aren't "one of the guys" you are absolutely better than them. You play in the NFL, they don't. Pick NFL friends/teammates to hang out with. Everyone then has the same agenda. I don't think Josh will get a 1 year suspension. i think it will either be a few games eventually for the DUI or completely overturned because of the testing process.. I'm sorry but if they give him 16 games for that little infraction thats not even consistent in worldwide testing protocol, and only give ray rice 2 games for being caught on video, knocking his gf out and dragging her caveman style back to his room..then Roger needs fired.

I don't view Josh as the victim. I view him as a young man trying to readjust and getting his life strait but making mistakes along the way. Silly and stupid mistakes but not intentional. 70 consecutive clean tests and a questionable positive makes me want to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I do think you could be a little less abrasive with how you present your ideas lately along with some of the folks arguing with you. I know your a very smart football guy and a good person. As someone who likes to read many of your posts I hope you will tone it down a bit and I hope your not having problems in real life that are stressing you out. I think my posts are getting more abrasive too the longer I wait for real football to finally start ^^
My best wishes to you mate =)

OK, let's look at this though .....
Gordon was arrested for DUI, while in a car described as being similar to a Cheech and Chng mobile. Even if he did not smoke it himself, how much would get into his system if he drove his friends around like that for an hour or 2?
I truly don't know ...... but it seems like it is at least feasible that such an event could trigger a false positive .... to some extent anyway.
As I said before, if you were sitting in a car filled to the brim with smoke then it's his own doing. 15ng is a small amount but to register that concentration it tells me he took a hit or two.
I am not debating for a second that he shouldn't have put himself in that situation, but some people are weaker than others around their friends. If he really has been able to pass all of those tests in a row, then that tells me that maybe he is getting better at managing that particular aspect of his life. Hopefully anyway.

Let me spell it out for you then.
You complained about people taking the word of unnamed sources ...... while using a report based on an unnamed source to castigate, lambaste, and rebuke Gordon for months now.
There is a certain level of hypocrisy there. I'm sorry if you cannot see what is so obvious to so many others.

yea 15 is too low.
You are comparing blood tests and urine tests. totally different things.
50 is the typical cut-off for a job-related urine test. That includes drivers. You can test triple the level Gordon did and drive a vehicle for the Federal Gov't.

That enough?
and not one say consecutive . just how many he passed since he has been in the nfl. he should count himself lucky that the nfl so far has bent over backward giving him breaks that other nfl players don't get lol.
According to the source, Gordon has passed at least 70 drug tests. One test barely generated a positive.
So how many consecutive? 69? 34? I dunno exactly but it means he passed a ton. Who knows, maybe that one that barely tested positive was his first offense his rookie year? Either way, within the 70 range, he passes a boat load consecutively no matter where that one test falls.
This test, last year's sizzurp test, and failed another drug test as a rookie (marijuana). That's 3 that we know of. Plus he got kicked out of two colleges.
Add in the drag racing and the DUI and the guy must think the rules don't apply to him. Yeah I know that's an unpopular opinion here, but I suspect that if he played for one of 31 other teams, most people here would agree with that.
Tough luck on this last one. I think the limit for THC is too low and the penalties too severe. Kind of insane that the NFL de facto allows HGH, an illegal and widely used PED. It is what it is.

'Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon does not deserve to be suspended for a year -- Terry Pluto' http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2014/07/cleveland_browns_receiver_josh.htmlBy Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer on July 30, 2014 at 11:05 AM, updated July 30, 2014 at 11:08 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Assuming the reports about Josh Gordon's marijuana case with the NFL are true, it would be an outrage if the Browns receiver is suspended for an entire season. This is not buying the "second hand smoke theory" that Gordon's representatives are expected to present to the NFL at Gordon's hearing on Friday. Gordon flunked three tests for marijuana in college. He flunked another as a rookie with the Browns in 2012. He tested positive for codeine in 2013, drawing a two-game suspension (and was fined four game checks). So let's not nominate Gordon for a spot on a church stained-glass window. But the recent test that has Gordon in trouble seems strange, because it's not especially conclusive. Let's say the test is correct. Gordon tested positive for marijuana -- again. Do you suspend him for the entire season for that? Is that what is best for Gordon, to have him away from the Browns facility for 12 months? If he's suspended, he's not supposed to have any contact with the team. Is that the best way to hold him accountable and help him deal with his problems? And yes, Gordon has problems beyond marijuana. He was arrested for a DUI in early July. His blood alcohol content was .09, barely above the North Carolina limit of .08. My concern was that he was bailed out by a guy named "Fats" Thomas, who was already on probation for drug and weapons charges. Thomas also had a rather long criminal record. In June, Gordon was pulled over for speeding. A passenger in his vehicle was cited for smoking marijuana. Gordon was hanging around with guys who were going to cause him some major grief. That's why I wrote a column suggesting the Browns present him with this choice: Rehab or Release. My motive was to pressure Gordon to enter a rehab center -- get off the street and away from some of these characters. He had two legal problems in a month, and he was heading down a very bad road with the wrong people in the car with him. In fact, he was driving a 2015 Cadillac Escalade that belongs to Charlotte Bobcats rookie P.J. Hairston. The two met at a North Carolina grocery store and decided to switch vehicles for the day. Gordon let Hairston drive his Mercedes. Remember, these guys didn't even other know each until that random meeting -- and traded cars. At least, that's Hairston's story. And Thomas is a friend of Hairston's, which is why he bailed out Gordon. Let's just say that Gordon's decision making needed some work. This thought process would invariably lead to more dead ends and legal problems. Not long after that, it seems the Browns (or someone close to Gordon) convinced the receiver to enter a rehab center in California for a few weeks before training camp. That is a positive step and and the NFL should take that into account. None of this is to excuse Gordon. He should face a suspension, perhaps the same as last season (two games, four game checks). Or maybe a bit longer if there are other facts in this story that are not known. The league can also attach requirements such as Gordon's receiving treatment. I'm not even going to dwell on the NFL's ridiculously soft two-game penalty for Baltimore's Ray Rice assaulting his wife. The circumstances of Gordon's story don't even come close to meriting a full-season suspension. Nor is that a way to help Gordon. If the NFL simply uses some common sense, they will agree there are better methods for dealing with Gordon than booting him out of the league for a year. (end)

The 5 panel is the Federal Dept of Transportation standards. 50 ng/ml is their standard. If you whizz a 48ng/ml you pass.
They confirm at the 15 ng/ml, but that only happens if sample A exceeds 50 ng/ml. Both of Josh's would be way below that number. 1/3rd of it. If he were whizzing for a Federal Truck Driving Job, he'd be on the road right now.

yea. they screen higher. but the same standard is for confirmation test. the screen for fed is 50. josh was at 38. I would not call that "Josh's would be way below that number. 1/3rd of it" by any stretch of the imagination.

first screen test.............
When players in the NFL are drug-screened, two different tests are used. Gordon measured 38 nanograms per milliliter of THC on the immunoassay test, above the NFL's threshold of 20, the source said. Most other sports organizations have a 50 cutoff or higher to avoid second-hand smoke issue, the source said.
second confirm test........
The source said Gordon measured 16 nanograms on the "A'' sample.
the feds stop right there with the second test. they don't do the b test. just the screen test because its cheap and the confirm test because the screen showed something.

You are combining Blood test with Urine tests. The NFL Urine test is 15ng the Federal Govt. Urine test is 50ng.
Josh's sample A urine test is 16ng. Hence in the discussion if he worked for the US Gov't driving he would not have failed and would have be 1/3rd under their threshold.

What's the difference between a drug screen and a drug test? The second type of screen is used in conjunction with a drug test. This is the method used by most major corporations and the Department of Transportation (also known as D.O.T.). For this, all samples are run on an automated screen. If the sample passes the screen, the testing process is done and the individual is given a passing status. If the sample fails the screen, it moves on to the drug test or confirmation test. For a test to be labeled "Drug Test" a gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) has to be performed on all positive screens. GC/MS is an extremely precise piece of equipment, which measures the molecular size, charge, and weight of the atoms in the drug metabolites. Due to the precision of the machine it can tell the difference between poppy seeds and opiates, ibuprofen and THC metabolites, nasal sprays and amphetamines. http://www.detoxforless.com/drug-testing-information/drug-screen-vs-drug-test.htmlmaybe this will help you understand.

what part of? "the government does screen test just like the nfl and if it shows something they do a different test to confirm it" don't you understand?
The reason the immunoassay test has a higher threshold for testing is because the concentration will be higher than a urine test.
The Federal Government does a urine test, not a immunoassay test. To make your argument you are taking the NFL's immunoassay test test which has a higher threshold and comparing it to the threshold of the Fed's Urine test.
The original comment was comparing the Josh's Urine test of 16ng to the Fed's Urine test threshold of 50ng. Which is why he stated Josh was 1/3rd below it. You are using Josh's immunoassay test result which naturally comes back at a higher concentration and has a higher testing threshold.
Can you state to me that the Fed uses a immunoassay test and it is also at a threshold of 50ng?

although I personally thought your present stance was way too extreme to the other side I guess comparatively to putting up Gordon for Saint hood on the Pro Gordon side.

not going to argue with you anymore. if you cant figure out that everybody does the cheap screen test and only do the complicated Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry method and is expensive but more accurate then go about being wrong blissfully unaware. one quick question though. you do pot? I have noticed a well... lack of intelligence on the board from people who do or used to and was just wondering.......

Shots fired.
Here's a flame shield for you. Good luck

Arguing is always more fun when you don't even believe what you're saying, isn't it?

We're all arguing about what SHOULD happen.
The fact is, the league has everything they need to uphold an indefinite ban.
Seems to me like the rule is: If you test positive on "A," we can check "B" for giggles but as long as there's a positive test, you're gone. Conversely, if "A" comes in negatively, we can check "B." And if "B" comes in as a positive, you're gone.
The only chance we have is that Goddell, out of sheer embarrassment (or pity on our franchise) decides to rule outside the letter of the law. And that's what it would be.
As it's written, right or wrong, points to Gordon getting the full year.
Now, he has the best legal team money can buy so (as OJ is my witness) anything goes when those leetches are in the room.

You are probably right, but exactly what is it that they have? I mean, they don't/won't tell us so I was just wondering what you know they have?

Sample A was above the threshold, Sample B only needed to show the presence of the substance that Sample A Failed. So in the end he failed and sample B backed up that failure.

I don't know. the rule on peds is pretty rigid but the rest? I think the nfl takes a more easy view. case by case is what I mean. if he doesn't get a 1 year ban it will be from him going into rehab more than anything the tests show. JMO of course.

And 90% of posters in this forum would get the best legal representation they could afford as well.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
