Who wasn't in pads today so he wouldn't get hurt?

Andre Johnson maybe straight up for Josh Gordon?
Your thinking makes sense for a Huge Crazy rumor. Considering the Houston QB position Hoyer for Johnson isn't all that Crazy.

* What’s up?: With balls skidding off receivers’ hands as the slow transition to the Kyle Shanahan offense drones on, sometimes the most interesting observations are away from the, um, action. On Wednesday, owner Jimmy Haslam walked onto the field and approached receiver Josh Gordon, who remained out of practice (abdominal) but watched from the sideline. Haslam talked to Gordon for about 10 minutes. The league heard Gordon's appeal of a probable suspension on Aug. 5.Then Haslam spent about 20 minutes chatting with coach Mike Pettine. Then Haslam spent another 10 minutes talking with GM Ray Farmer. These may be no more than routine updates for Haslam, who crams in as much “intel” from his football men as he can in his typical 24 hours around the team during the week. It just seemed that Haslam was making the rounds more than usual, and then he ended his time outside the facility with a five-minute chat with Peter John-Baptiste, the new VP of communication. Asked what the topic of conversation was with the owner, Pettine said, “Just talking about crazy Cleveland weather.”

There's definitely smoke, but it takes a lot to get a trade like this done in the NFL. It's a rarity
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Keith Britton ‏@KeithBritton86 42s Even if #Texans want Hoyer, they'd never give Andre to do it. You don't trade to get "better" QB, then trade best weapon. Counter-productive web page

If we somehow land Andre for Hoyer (and if Gordon isn't out for the year), this immediately becomes the most interesting summer in Cleveland sports, ever.
Browns is the Browns

I wouldn't trade Gordon for Johnson even if he's suspended the whole year...

Andre was 7th in Receiving yards last year, Josh was first but if Josh is gone for the year he could be gone for good. The team would have no contact with him and seeing as he has failed a test every year going back to college how much faith do you put in that he will be able to stay clean when he is out on his own? Worked so well for Justin Blackmon.
IDK, I love Josh's potential. The guy is one of the best in the league but he has lots of baggage. Andre is still one of the best despite him being over the 30yo mark.
Man, that would be a hard long thought for me but I think I would make that trade.

Andre is also 33 years old. Not much left in the tank. Maybe a year or two at highest level, if he's even playing at highest level right now.

He was the 7th best in receiving last year. He could hit that wall for sure, but again I'll state that if Josh is gone for the year and the team has no contact with him he could be gone forever.

Agreed. If he's been getting in trouble now, imagine if he's completely on his own.
I do think that since all the information has come out, he's less of a total hoodlum as I originally thought.
He failed a drug test but by the slightest of slight margins while passing 70. He got nabbed driving impaired by .01 BAC. He gets speeding tickets going 50 in a 35.
If the majority of people on this board and everywhere haven't been guilty of a few of these things and gotten away with it, I'd be surprised. I know I have.
Not an excuse, but the kid is pretty damn unlucky when it comes to this stuff lately. He did his part to get in this mess, no question. But he's not exactly what I'd call a thug.
A full year away from the team? Who knows. But it certainly won't put him in the position to succeed.

j/c Report: Texans won’t be trading for Brian Hoyer The Texans went through the offseason without adding a starting quarterback. The Browns had one, and drafted another. But those dots apparently do not connect. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans “won’t be trading for” Browns starter-for-now Brian Hoyer. It makes sense at a certain level, given Hoyer’s New England ties with Texans coach Bill O’Brien, and the utter lack of anything else at the position on the Texans roster at the moment. But the Browns have maintained that Johnny Manziel’s going to have to earn the starting job away from Hoyer, and after one preseason game, it’s hard to declare that mission accomplished. Hoyer was a temp from the moment the Browns chose Manziel, but there’s no reason for them to punt him now. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/13/report-texans-wont-be-trading-for-brian-hoyer/

The Texans are going to end up with Mallett. The Patriots never carry three QBs and just drafted Garoppolo.

The Pats tend to get a lot more for their backup QBs. I think it would be at least a 3rd. While he's essentially a rookie based on the amount of NFL snaps he has in the regular season, he's a lot further along than any other rookie QB because he's knows an NFL offense.

I don't think that Houston gives up a draft pick. They probably make it a player-for-player swap.

With NE you never know. They previously wanted a 1st for Mallet. The could possibly tag him and just keep 3 QB's for a year or two. You never know when a QB Brady's age will have an injury that ends his career because he would be too old by the time he recovered from it. NE has plenty of time to make up their minds. Brady has another year like last one and he might be released. Bill doesn't let emotions sway his judgement.

No doubt... be one for the record books. Throw my grandma in at qb and we'd do okay with that type of arsenal in Camerion, Gordon and Andre and Tate/West. Whew weeeeeeeee...............

Agreed. Bill B probably has his eye on someone on the Texan roster ... Perhaps DL help

Personally, I doubt it. It would really suck if Manziel went down and you see Grossman trotting on the field to replace him.
I think Rex is a pretty good QB...even now.
That said, you can't plan on a injury. Any team that loses a starting QB is in a world of hurt.
I also think if Johnny wins out of the block, we can't afford to keep Brian. We have to eliminate the controversy. Too many times this teams has had 2 guys....one with maybe 51% of the support, the other with 48%.....sorry, that just doesn't work. Never has. Never will. As fans of this team you would think more people would have that figured out by now.

The only reason I'd disagree with that, is I think it'd be good for Johnny (Or vise versa for Brian) to have Hoyer behind him on the depth chart..
A lot more competition than Rex.

I don't believe what the fans think should have any impact on doing what's best for the team. And if anyone wants to talk about history, I think looking at the health of Browns QB's would carry more weight. We need to keep both of them.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

What did they get for Hoyer? Nothing, they cut him because they don't carry three QBs and they just drafted Mallett. The Patriots have traded exactly one of their backup QBs and were only able to do that because he just played a full season with one of the best offenses of all time.
Everyone knows the Patriots don't carry three QBs; that kills the market for Mallett.

Just because they don't carry 3 qbs doesn't mean they can't now..
Are you really ganna cut a 3rd round QB when all you have to do is let him sit and then tag him and trade him next year?

The Browns history of having QBs injured should not factor into any of the decision making (just like what the fans want). Jake Delhomme getting hurt has nothing to do with any of the decisions currently being made.

You've heard of Bill Belichick, right?
The round Mallett was drafted in is irrelevant now. The only thing that matters now is if he can help the team. That roster spot is more valuable than having three QBs (this is especially the case when Tom Brady is QB1).

Yeah I've heard of him. The guy got good picks for Drew fricken Bledsoe.. from a division rival...
Mallett could easily net them a 2 next year, if not more.

So you think the Patriots put a tender on Mallett (last year the transition tag for a QB was $14.6M)? Then other teams will just say, "If you want to pay him that much, then you keep him." Knowing that the Patriots will eventually cut him.
If the Patriots were going to get any value for Mallett is was going to come in the off-season before the draft. Now they get nothing.
