Gee, I almost wish we needed a coach so we could have a "gotta get this guy" thread. Almost, but not really, I'm good with Pettine.

I must say this is quite a surprise to put it mildly.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah, I'm pretty shocked also.. I thought that Manning might retire but I thought Fox did a good job there. Oh well..

Wow. I thought Manning played badly, but this?!?

Manning should retire and be filthy rich.

Why do you fire a coach that is 46-18, 4 divisions win and a super bowl appearance? Stupid.

It's been a crazy offseason for coaches, that's for sure.

I cannot remember 2 really high quality coaches, still in their primes, walking away from their teams. (or mutually parting ways ... whatever)

Some have even said a Mike Shanahan return. Elway is running things, so I wouldn't rule it out. Also, Tony Dungy and Manning reunite? Everything is up in the air.

They haven't been fired. They've been given to opportunity to get jobs elsewhere and that they aren't assured of a job when the new HC is hired.

This seems to me to say that Gase won't be back either, not even as HC.

Fox, Elway split was a long time coming
Posted by Mike Florio on January 12, 2015, 7:53 PM EST
Fox AP

Like 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke and former head coach Jim Harbaugh, Broncos G.M. John Elway and coach John Fox weren’t getting along. Unlike Baalke and Harbaugh, Elway and Fox kept the dysfunction under wraps until very recently.

“This is not just something that happened because they lost in the playoffs,” Jay Glazer said Monday night on FOX Sports One regarding the divorce in Denver. “This is actually a situation that has been going on for quite some time and I said yesterday on FOX NFL Sunday, ‘There are teams that are looking at the Denver Broncos, because if they lose, John Fox might become available.’ The reason I said that is because I already knew that there was a chance that John Fox was going to come available, just because the working relationship there between he and John Elway, it wasn’t the greatest working relationship. With John Elway and John Fox, it started off great, but then it started not working out.

“John Elway looked at this season as, ‘This is all or nothing, with what we spent, you’ve got to go win us a Super Bowl.’ And the relationship between Elway, not just with Fox, but with the entire coaching staff, they both needed a split from each other.”

So what’s next for Fox?

“I think he and the Chicago Bears are the best fit,” Glazer said. “I think they are a great fit because you have an opportunity where you’ve got a coach in there – if they decide not to go with Jay Cutler – John Fox has already been in [an unsettled quarterback situation] in Carolina, where he had Rodney Peete, Vinny Testaverde, guys like that and they figured it out.”

It’s unclear what’s next for the Broncos. But the end result is no Super Bowl win through three seasons with Peyton Manning.

I don't know if I'd say zero percent, but I wouldn't bet against zero percent.

It would be the most wildly unprecendented coaching hire in the history of professional sports.

Well, if John Fox could have made Mannings quad hold up, things may have worked out differently, but it was pretty obvious that either age or injury had caught up to Manning, now we know it was injury.

Can't stand Elway, just another ego move.

I can see Shanahan Sr. getting the job with Jr. taking over after 2 or 3 years.

I heard the complete opposite but it was from Bozos for some reason they thought the one guy they could definitely count out was Mike.

I think they knew they were losing Del Rio n Gase...might as well release them all. Start fresh with a New HC.

Who? Young probably - heard they want to speak to Seattles DC.

But this was a wow and I think just further puts ammo for Manning to hang them up.

not too surprising that big ego guys have issues getting along, but you'd think that all the winning (both in SF and Denver) would help things. I mean, if you cannot get along when winning, then imagine if things got tough for a couple years.

and, people discussed our firing Chud after a year as being bad, but imagine this one. so, either you win a SB or be fired (Schott is the only other HC I can remember having such a crazy edict when he was fired after a 14-2 season).
