When you consider the axiom that it takes money to make money, this shouldn't come as a shocker to anyone.

Besides, do folks somehow think that living paycheck-to-paycheck and racking up a ton of debt to support your fancy house, conspicuous car, and credit card habit of "gotta-have-it-right-now shopping" is going to allow you to amass wealth, rather than being the feeder in the system? Not gonna happen.

Wise.

And to those who call for revolution, well, the rich will pay the poor to form armies against other poor. Let them revolt, while the rich eat their cake.

This is exactly why redistribution of wealth will never work. Give them more money, they'll just go waste it.

Redistribution does take place today.

Look at the Earned Income Tax Credit.

As many may know, I managed a restaurant that drew for personnel from the city of Youngstown, and which employed many kids and young adults who came from poor backgrounds.

Many of these were poor single mothers. Many of them actually had 2, 3, 4, or more children. As such, they qualified to a massive income redistribution program known as the EITC.

Near the end of the year, they would get that final paycheck of the year, and most would run off for the tax prep place, that gave tax refund loans. They would pay $500, $600, or more to get that refund anticipation loan .... and to get their refund 2-3 weeks before they could have otherwise received it through free methods.

I would ask many "why?" they would want to waste so much money just to get their "refund" earlier, and many would shrug and say the same thing: "It's not my money." Usually, 2 or 3 days later, their refund would be gone, and they would be back to their normal finances.

That just goes to demonstrate your point. Unearned money is never worth as much as money you earn. Heck, I know for myself that this is true. I won $1600 on the lottery once, and it was gone in a few days. I had a decent savings for my age at that time, but that lottery money was nothing. It was spending money. It was to be wasted. Unearned money never has the same value as money we have worked for.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Looks like we've finally found a valid solution:

WASHINGTON—Expressing their commitment to helping average American families get a leg up, leaders of the Republican party addressed the nation’s growing income inequality Wednesday by offering the middle class a hot stock tip. “Look, you guys didn’t hear it from us, but we have it on good authority that now’s the time to hop on the IPG Photonics train,” said Speaker of the House John Boehner, who explained that investing “a few grand” right now would provide the boost that struggling middle-class households need to get ahead, before requesting that everyday Americans not share the inside advice with anyone else. “IPG’s got the fiber-optic laser market cornered, and we’ve got reason to believe that demand is going to shoot through the roof in the next few quarters. Yeah, it’s trading at a pretty steep $74, but this thing’s a sure deal. And you’ll want to grab a few hundred shares in this sucker if you can, because you’re looking at a dividend yield of at least 11 percent. Don’t worry, this tip’s for free.” Boehner then added that the GOP might also have a naked short-sell operation struggling Americans could get in on if they weren’t afraid to “get [their] hands a little dirty.”

We should take all the wealth from the top 1% and give it to the bottom 1%, then we can hate them instead.

At least it'd stimulate the economy. They'd spend it instead of hoarding it like a crazy cat lady. Only instead of cats it's millions and millions of dollars in offshore accounts away from the tax man.

Yet consistently complain how the people they consider stupid continue to take advantage of them.

Mother of God. I pay almost as much in rent as you guys pay in total monthly expenditures. Southern California is expensive. It is also warm.

South Florida is warm too, and I my expenses are rather low.

I just wish I could have a damn basement here. smile

Part of the reason I live in Uniontown is to get a good programmer salary but also do my weekly grocery shopping for under $50.

I'd need a 30k pay bump to have the same standard of living in LA but what they don't tell you is they don't offset by that amount. Sure you might make a few grand more than someone in Ohio or Texas but it doesn't add up frown

But cfrs15, SoCal is indeed warm, and a comfy warm. Texas was hot. too hot.

I lived in Arizona for 5 years, so Texas seems nice and cool by comparison. Also, October through March is so pleasant that I can deal with some heat from April through September smile

I can deal better with Ohio winters than Texas summers. To me they are the same thing no matter how you slice it. You stay indoors, jack up your utility bills, and wait for the next season.

But in winter I can throw a jacket on and mostly deal with it, Texas would go months at a time with 100+ degree days and you're sweating before you hit your car and there are laws preventing you from taking off too many clothes smile

Split the difference. The PacNW. If you don't mind wearing a lightweight fleece jacket all year it's perfect. Nothing too hot or too cold.

yeah, it's all about what you can deal with. here in Austin, the days over 100 are few. maybe a couple in a row before it drops back into the 90s and then there's a random week in the 70s or 80s once in awhile. again, compared to Arizona (where the highs in the 100s truly would last months at a time), it is liveable and we do stuff outside in the summer.

each person is different though.

I will agree that the PacNW is amazing weather. Only area with nicer weather is SD because it's about 15 degrees warmer, but also stays relatively temperate year-round (and explains the ridiculousness of the costs to live there).

What part of Austin do you live in where days over 100 are few? Austin was home for me until early 2014. The average is 13 days at 100+ In Austin but it hasn't felt that way in a long time.

Austin is also losing alot of what I think was awesome about it. The traffic is several times worse than when I moved in 2006. The cost of living almost doubled during that time. There are like 150 people moving there every day because they liked SXSW.

I still like Austin alot I just felt it was time to move on.
