I think the message it sends to the team is far more important than the possibility of acquiring a late round draft pick in the future.
When you're a team like the Browns that is trying to change the culture and establish accountability it is necessary to practice what you preach, otherwise it all becomes hot air and the players no longer buy what you're selling. It becomes an empty message.
Gordon complained last year how he wasn't welcomed back with open arms by his teammates. His teammates have appeared to lost respect for him.
The message the Browns have the opportunity to send to the players that want to be here, take their jobs seriously and want to be part of a winner is far greater than the off chance we cash Gordon in for a 6th or 7th round pick down the road. A 6th or 7th round draft pick is likely to not make it anyway (please do not cite Tom Brady as the once in a lifetime exception).
If Gordon goes on to have success elsewhere good for him. You can't let the future 'what if's' hold you hostage to an opportunity you have in from of you now. Especially, given the history and inability to not get suspended Gordon has proven to demonstrate.
