Just had a thought, if Cameron was not a Cleveland Brown, but a free agent from another team, would we be wanting to sign him? I say yes (although I want to sign him anyway). I say 'yes' as well.

Wikipedia, nfl.com, heck look who was on the roster, where the played after, hey start with pop adams lmao. then look at the drunkin nutcase first 3 rounds of drafting for the 3 years he was here. you can figure it out i am sure. the guy cut good, bad, average, didnt matter to him.

For our team? No. Price and fit are two very important factors many tend to forget or fail to consider. If Cameron was in, say, Oakland and just reportedly turned down $6-7 mil from them, as a Browns fan, I would think to myself 'that's a lot of money for a pass catcher who doesn't fit our system'. I can't say what offense our new OC will run, but Pettine is clearly a run-first philosophy guy, and I would question why someone would want to pay that much for a cog that doesn't fit. With the NFL salary cap, you have to pick and choose where to overspend.

I don't know if Petttine is clearly a run first guy. He might be. It's only been one year.
I think the propensity to run a lot could have been because he had Hoyer, someone who needs a consistent run game to be effective (not too mention a rookie QB) as a reason we relied on running so much. That and Shanahan liked to run a bunch too. Again it was him who called the plays. I could be wrong but there was a NFL film clip where there was a play near the goaline and Pettine yells at Shanny telling him to pass the ball. Shanny looks at him funny and then Pettine says something to the effect.."OK, man. I trust you. Call what you want." It was a run. haha.
I don't know much about our new OC or his style. But his style is what will matter most. I disagree with you on Cameron. I think we need legit offensive weapons. Losing Gordon once again adds to that need. The entire world knows Cameron's blocking is subpar. I would hope we could find ways to work around that....like lining him outside a lot like we did last year.
He is a mismatch everywhere. I would hate to lose talent when there is such a chess match in the passing game.

I would argue that a player like Cameron would fit our system perfectly. We would be able to run two tight end sets and one of the tight ends would be an above-average blocking tight and the other tight end would be a great receiving tight end. Out of more traditional formations Cameron would line up in the slot, something he does often, and be able to take advantage of mismatches. And I would argue that Cameron blocking as a receiver is better than most receivers blocking (although as others have mentioned Gabriel and Hawkins are pretty good blocking receivers). In the end Cameron is a very talented skill position player. Our offense doesn't have very many of those. We need to keep our talent and mold the offense to what they do best. If Cameron were a free agent from another team I think we would all be saying, "We need a weapon like that in the passing game, but he will never come here."

We are, and probably going to be for a while, a run first team. Cameron doesn't fit simply because any of us can block better than him. he also can't stay on the field. so if he was from another squad, and we was looking at him? Hell no.

If used in two tight ends sets Jordan Cameron would be fine. When it is a clear passing play he can be moved out to wide.

I think the propensity to run a lot could have been because he had Hoyer yea. the 3.4 yard a carry was it. wasnt the highest yard per completion or one of the best yards per attempt in the nfl was it? lmao

I think the amount of called running plays might make more sense. But I don't know what that is.

He has had Multiple Multiple did I say Multiple Concussions, Sorry would love to have him back ... HEALTHY I saw him listed as playing 25 games in the last 2 years. So he's missed 7. And it was last season (2013) he actually got to start. Most missed games coming from this year (6) due to his concussion.

What? well our RBs did the same over all as trent did. 3.4 yards per carry. people that think we had some great running game are sadly mistaken.

I think when talking about our running game we should use the acronyms MP and MH (Mack Playing and Mack Hurt). We were averaging nearly 150 rushing yards per game MP.

Don't blame. Sadly I'm okay with him not signing. The concussion amount alone is a concern. It took him like a month or something to be cleared of I his last one. He may be one concussion away from being forced to retire.

This was the first year we actually had legitimate FA of our own to keep. This mess makes it worse. Wonder how next year will be with another large group of Browns FAs.

As was mentioned, he's probably one concussion away from forced retirement. I didn't want him back for the league minimum.

Bleacher Report told me via my cell phone that Cameron isn't interested in returning to Cleveland.
Seeing as we've had three head coaches and four offensive coordinators since he's been drafted, who the hell could blame him?
Go sign with a GOOD team at a modest price and win yourself some games.
It's a real shame he couldn't stay healthy while here, he seems like a class act off the field, I wish him nothing but luck wherever he ends up signing.

We should get compensation in the draft for losing him right? probably not. Compensatory picks are given out based on the total of players leaving/joining in free agency (weighted more towards higher salary/more productive players) so assuming the Browns bring in more value than they lose in free agency, they won't get anything.

We should get compensation in the draft for losing him right? Yes but Farmer lost that pick. Actually I think it depends on the FA's we lose as opposed those we sign which determines if any compensation is forthcoming.

Good thing no FA's will sign here, so we should get something.

They'll take a first rounder for what Farmer did... and if we get one for Cameron leaving it will be a late seventh rounder.

No way are they taking a first rounder away for texting. It's not like this team has had a history of breaking this rule.
It'll be a late rounder and a big fine.

Really? I think your post is a prime example of the denial that so many people are in. Shanny wants out. What do you guys say? He was a me person. He was a quitter. He was a rat. He was going to be fired anyway. Cameron doesn't want to come back? He isn't worth league minimum. Seriously? I think that perhaps you should look into WHY these guys don't WANT to come back to Cleveland, rather than bashing them for not wanting to come back. Look at the state of the franchise. Look at the people in charge. You really don't see a correlation there?

I guess I am in the minority...
I really dont care why someone wants to leave, in reality we seldom know the whole story anyway unless it comes directly from the person involved, if they want to go.. they should go.
People leave their place of employment thousands of time a day for hundreds of different reasons, the NFL is no different, imo.
In this case as in the case of Shanny, they wanted out... meh.... so be it... they SHOULD go.
I have no say nor any control over the team... so I lose no sleep over real or perceived problems that I can not affect.
When a person is no longer asociated with the browns ( for wahtever reason, save retirement), they become unimportant to me. While in the organization I give them all my support and hopes for success, when gone meh dont really care.
Do I care of disfunction? nah not really.... I have learned not to worry about things not under my control and as long as there are Browns, I will be there once a year in person ( God willing),and every Sunday at home hoping they win.

Even at league minimum, it doesn't improve our chances at winning with him standing on the sidelines. In my opinion, he's a broken asset. He's had so many concussions that any little headbutt will send him to the trainers room for a few weeks. We need guys that can play. And I liked Barnidge and Dray just fine. Sure, I'd like them to look into free agency or the draft to get deeper, but I'm ready to move on from Jordan. And no, I don't slurp the FO in every decision they make. And guess what, players from winning teams leave all the time too. Go watch players from Seattle and NE leave for other teams. Sure, maybe it's money, but it can also be for a change of scenery, a chance to start, a new challenge, get closer to home, follow a coach you enjoyed working with in the past, who the heck knows. Just because Jordan and Shanny want out, doesn't mean we're the worst team in the league. Lots of players will leave successful teams too this offseason.

Solid, down to earth post. Agree 100%.
He kind of reminds me of the Brodney Pool situation, free safety. Concussion after concussion, but he played well and was a good kid. I'm sure the concussion protocol is much different now, but as many as he's had I don't ever recall him missing weeks because of it. The servity of Jordan's health is and should be a major concern for us or any team interested in him.

I agree with this post also. I like JC I think he is a talent and a solid, good guy but he can't stay on the field and he is just 1 good hit from ending his career. However, wherever he ends up I wish him the best.

I have learned not to worry about things not under my control and as long as there are Browns, I will be there once a year in person ( God willing),and every Sunday at home hoping they win. I agree with most of this. If a guy wants out, well, that's one guy. Somehow we always manage to sign a few guys, and field a full roster. DQ wanted out because we wouldn't pay him the final year of an exorbitant contract. IIRC, he was due to make almost $10 million. He went to the Colts for a deal that was reported as a 4 year deal worth $22 million, with $11 million guaranteed. However, that's not necessarily the case. ESPN Link He could wind up being cut this coming year, and the Colts would owe him nothing further. He wanted out. He wanted to play for a winning team. That's fine. The Browns let him go, and replaced him with a better player in Dansby. Could there have been more behind the story? Maybe. Will we ever know the whole story? Probably not. Could there be a whole, enormous back story behind Shanahan leaving? Possibly. Could he have just wanted one of the jobs that had a more stable QB situation to work with? Possibly. Will we ever know the whole story? Probably not. Players come and players go. Coaches come and coaches go. Hopefully we wind successful players and coaches, and keep them here. I have had this weird feeling, ever since the end of last year, and despite the upsets and problems that have arisen since the season ended, and despite war and rumors of war, we will be a 9 or 10 win team next year. I just can't shake the feeling. Anyway, if that happens, will we still complain about things? I suppose some will. We seem to be professionally unhappy as fans. No matter what happens, we'll never know 100% of what goes on behind the scenes. I would guess that we know very few of those details. I just hope that the players and coaches who are here, become a winning team.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Could there have been more behind the story? Maybe. Will we ever know the whole story? Probably not. Not true. DQ said he would redo his deal. The FO/coaching staff wanted him gone for two reasons: they felt they could do better in free agency and they thought if they were going to change the culture they had to purge the previous leaders, even if they didn't necessarily think those leaders were a problem themselves.

I don't disputer for a second that the Browns wanted leaders in place, and not guys like DQ who were "quiet leaders". They wanted vocal guys, who can help right the ship when necessary. However, there were reports that said that the Browns had a deal ion the table for DQ, that was more than what he wound up getting from the Colts, and he rejected it. He wanted to go play for a winning team. This report doesn't go into those details, but the fact is that DQ wound up leaving a total of $11 million in 2014 cash under his contract with the Browns, for a $22 million, 4 year deal, with, really, one year of guarantees, that is worth $22 million if he plays it out all the way. (which is highly unlikely IMHO) Link CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, the undisputed leader of the Browns and most beloved player on the team, said Wednesday that he was "more than willing to restructure'' his contract to remain with the Browns, but that the two sides couldn't agree on the number. "My agent Brian Mackler and I made the decision that if I was going to take that offer I'd go somewhere else where there's a little bit more stability and a situation that's a little bit better for me,'' Jackson said in an exclusive interview with Northeast Ohio Media Group. "I told (GM) Ray Farmer I think I've been a strong soldier for eight years and I just felt like -- we both did -- we couldn't come up with a number and we both felt like it was better for both sides just to move on.'' ...... later in the article: His salaries for 2015 and 2016 were $7.73 million and $7 million, respectively. The Browns will have $4.2 million in dead money on the books for him this year. If he had stayed, his cap number would've been $9.43 million. "I definitely would've stayed if they would've payed the $4.0 million bonus," .... still further on in the article: Mackler said the issue with Jackson was that "we needed a commitment from the Browns that D'Qwell was going to be with the Browns for the next two to three years. They couldn't provide that, so we decided to have a mutual split.'' He was due a bonus of $4 million and had a salary of $7 million. Would anyone in their right mind pay him that? The Colts didn't. They paid him a 4 year, $22 million deal, with an out prior to next year. It would not surprise me to see them either release him prior to the league year when that $4 million roster bonus is due, or work to renegotiate his deal.

ESPN Link
He could wind up being cut this coming year, and the Colts would owe him nothing further.
He wanted out. He wanted to play for a winning team. That's fine. The Browns let him go, and replaced him with a better player in Dansby.
Could there have been more behind the story? Maybe. Will we ever know the whole story? Probably not. Not true. DQ said he would redo his deal. The FO/coaching staff wanted him gone for two reasons: they felt they could do better in free agency and they thought if they were going to change the culture they had to purge the previous leaders, even if they didn't necessarily think those leaders were a problem themselves. Yes. And he sucked in a 3-4. Which also proved to be true in Indy.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Do I care of disfunction? nah not really..
It is your right to not worry about dysfunction in a team. On the other hand, it is my right to be upset about. You not worrying about it and rooting for your team no matter what they do does NOT make you a better fan or person than me. I don't like the dysfunction because it will lead to one poor decision after another, just as we have already seen over and over and over again. That leads to more losing. I am not happy w/that and I don't mind saying so. Sorry if that upsets you. And I gotta add this. I was so pumped when Haslam bought the team. I couldn't stand the wishy-washy Junior and his lack of passion for the Browns. I backed Haslam big-time. But, the guy is turning out to be a buffoon. I was wrong about him. Gotta 'fess up.
