Let's just go ahead and get them out of the way right now:

Why so serious?

Is this a joke(r) or what?

This franchise is a joke(r).

Quote:
1988–1989 Kentucky (GA)
1990 Kentucky (assistant RC)
1991–1996 Kentucky (WR)
1997 Cincinnati (WR)
1998 Cincinnati (DB)
1999–2000 Minnesota (WR)
2001 Notre Dame (WR)
2002 South Carolina (WR)
2003 Kentucky (RC/WR)
2004 Kentucky (RC/PGC/WR)
2005–2008 Kentucky (OC/WR)
2009 Kentucky (HC of offense/WR)
2010–2012 Kentucky
2012–2013 Florida (WR/RC)

RC is recruiting coordinator.

Phillips also interviewed for the FAMU head coaching job this off-season.

The resume is nice, but he has never coached in the NFL. And he most likely left college because of recruiting violations.

As with everything this time of year, we have to wait and see how he does.

We still don't have a QB coach or an offensive quality control coach (whatever that is).

I think he is an excellent hire for WR coach, he took a QB in Randall Cobb and turned him into a fantastic receiver. Stevie Johnson couldnt run a route but he found a way to work him. Hopefully his connections to Randall Cobb could lure him to Cleveland but i doubt it lol

I am not up on my recruiting violations.

If it was a minor violation this makes me feel a little better about the hire. At least we know he isn't running from the NCAA a la Kelvin Sampson.

this is how I understand it... he was photographed having lunch with a recruit during a recruiting down time ( no contact allowed), he said he Bumped into the recruit by chance and it was not pre meditated.

The picture was sent to the NCAA by Miami.

Some have questioned why he would resign for just a minor infraction, implying something more, but that was all I could find.

should make for some interesting ...er... "debates" between the haters and the apologists. brownie

Next man up. At this point, it just doesn't matter who it is, as long as the staff is on the same page for once.

we are either being very thorough with our interview process ... or all of these candidates stink lol

Joker Phillips own players hated him (As a coach, not as a person)

He held Stevie Johnson and Randall Cobb back at Kentucky.

Stevie Johnson was a 7th round pick and Cobb was a late 2nd round pick --- Because of Joker.

This hire is a freaking joke (No pun intended)

And that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

I don't know about this hire... I just don't know. Was this hire because it was the best choice, or because the other choices all stunk?

JMO, but I likely don't suspect him to be around next year. I'm calling that already. Again, I said JMO!

You know, instead of being a negative nancy right off the bat, maybe I should try a different angle.

He will inherit, as of now, Andrew Hawkins, Marlon Moore, Travis Benjamin and Taylor Gabriel. This is under the assumption that Josh is gone for the year and Austin is not resigned. Then of course take your pick of the no names that I don't think we've seen, alas a Rodney Smith at WR.

To me, Hawkins is a great WR. Routes are crisp and he's got jets after the catch. Made some bad drops but by far not in the realm of a Greg Little to say. I think Hawkins could flourish with a true deep threat at WR and he could just destroy the flat and slot game.

Gabriel was a pleasant surprise. So much a threat, I think we threw the most screens to him. I think he can get better and hey, let's be real the story is awesome of him. Walk on at tryouts, gets a shot with limited time I think cause of injury and proves off for it. He should be a great WR to work with.

Benjamin, eh. Has made some nice touchdown catches and shown some decent to even good footwork to toe tap and etc. I know a few times he was open deep and the Hoyer thrown ball didn't have enough mustard on it and he missed out on some more TDs, but he didn't really do too much. I think there is still upside, but I would not count/bank on him on being a starter.

Austin, we need to resign him if he's willing to come back to the NFL, and willing to come back here. Could have called it quits, packed up and went wherever I guess after his kidney injury/being done for the season, but he stayed with the team, traveled with the team and from what I heard/read - he stayed in all the film/WR rooms. True professional and you cannot argue that he was a clutch, third down nightmare for defenses. He's kept a lot drives going, so many I couldn't even begin to count honestly. Please come back Miles!

... everyone else, not even sure they played. If they did, I didn't notice or see it so I'll leave the comments for someone else. In any case, he's got some stuff to work with. There is no doubt we need to address WR in the draft, and be willing to pay a high pick for one if the situation were to present itself. *Cough* like Amari Cooper *cough* lol!

Gordon isn't worth commenting on, he's likely a nobody for a full year, yet again rolleyes

That's the thing. I don't think too many people appreciate what our former coaches got out of that group. It's a pretty pathetic group.

We'll see............even though y'all will conveniently forget this conversation.

I'm friends with two former UK offensive linemen on Facebook (I won't say who for obvious reasons)

But when Joker was our Offensive Coordinator, I posted on Facebook "Pretty awesome how Joker Phillips gives Derrick Locke the ball twice in the 2nd half" or something along those lines when we lost to Tennessee, to which one of them replied "LOL, right?"

I'll just leave it at that.

I wouldn't go as far to say "pathetic". I would say the run game/play action threat helped a lot. For awhile there I think we lead the league in deep plays.

I'll stick to what I said, he's got some stuff, some talent... to work with. But there is no question, the WR needs addressed in the draft as' well. One monster could make the entire group do better, and Josh Gordon isn't that answer here for Joker, for Pettine or for the city of Cleveland. But I'll leave the Josh talk for his own thread lol! thumbsup

I was surprised by how well the WRs did. I thought it would be a disaster.

I do think our OC and WR coaches had a big role in their success, but we'll see. Maybe they are good?

Randall Cobb was a QB and Joker taught him to be a receiver. Stevie Johnson could only run the deep post and would get lost on that route. I thought Joker did a great job with him and turned him into a really good receiver. He would have gone much higher in the draft if he hadnt been well a bit of a nut.

he is a fantastic positional coach but he is a horrible OC and may be the worst HC I have ever seen. As long as he isnt calling plays, i have no issue with him. I do however wish we would bring in Al Saunders or Martz to at least help with all these young coaches.

We are talking about a WR coach right? Not a HC hire or an OC? The only question I have is does this guy knows his stuff and can he teach it. That's all. I'm sure Flip will be meeting with all his asst. and they will plan out an implamentation of the scheme to each units...then pull it all together as a team. We should see that in camps. I think its important to of course sign Hoyer to help in this transition. All though I believe I read Flip will make it as simple as possible to transition from last year to this.

jmho - The most qualified WR coach we ever had was Robiskie. Let these guys actually work then criticize it.

Only in Cleveland does the WR coach get so dissected. Hilarious.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
